“Would stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

The staff was very helpful and friendly. There was always someone who could speak English and if someone could not - they quickly got someone who did. They always assisted us in getting a taxi and negotiated the price with the driver to make sure we did not get over charged. FYI, everything in central Mexicali is within a 50 to 75 pesos drive, even the border crosing, so don't pay more! The hotel is very safe. Breakfast buffet - good. Pools - clean. TV - plenty of English channels. Room and bathroom - very clean. Bed - comfortable. Shower - did not work so great. Very nice grounds with 2 pools. Only negative was that both pools were filled with screaming children (it was a weekend) so we could not relax by the pools in the afternoon. I suggested to the hotel that one pool be adults only. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: A little bit of street noise at night. There is a tall building perhaps 8 floors high with balconie...

We stayed in a nice bungalow at the Hotel Lucerna. The staff was welcoming and let me use my Spanish but rescued me in English as necessary. The hotel is pretty and was pleasant to walk around during the afternoon. The restaurants were enjoyable as well. However, there were two things that made the stay less than good. The first one was the crib that we were using. One of the wheels was missing and when I asked about it, I was told it was the only crib available. We propped it up with a phone book but it made me question their ability to service the family. The second issue was that the hotel cut power for an entire day while we were there . We received notice the day before and there was no offer of reduced rate or even an offer of a free drink or something. We ended up having to find a place to go during the day as hot water and electricity were cut off. Then, when we came back at 2 PM (when the power was supposed to come back on), we were told that it would be off for another 1-2 hours.

Room Tip: We stayed in a bungalow and it was nice to be right off of the pool.

I stayed here with my son and husband the weekend of 3/16. The room was very clean. The room amenities are nice, Our villas was right in front of the pool. Pool was very clean and nice, no jacuzzi however. We also ordered room service for breakfast. The food and service was great. Also ate the breakfast buffett. Waiter was very friendly and spoke Engish. The food was good. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: The villas are very nice.

This place was nicely located in a safe area of Mexicali. The staff was very professional, courteous and friendly. The hotel has a beautiful pool with a waterfall stream. The room we received was on a high floor (recommended) and had a balcony so you can sip your coffee while you look at the city below. Parking is free and plentiful. The room was spacious and clean. There's a little taco shop about three blocks from the hotel that's called Asadero Ocotlan; it was delicious! Go there! I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor, with a balcony and with a city view.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

We stayed in one of the bungalow rooms of the Lucerna during a weekend in December. The room was very attractively decorated, had good mattressses, nice amenities and was close to the pool. The grounds are kept nicely and the breakfast buffet in the restaurant was plentiful and had a great variety of different choices. We did not have an opportunity to eat dinner at the hotel, so cannot comment on the other retaurants. All in all highly recommended for business travel. Mexicali does not offer much for tourists, so would not recommend this as a destination for a family trip although the hotel itself is certainly attractive enough.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2010

I stayed in total already three times in the Lucerna, everytime when I came to Mexicali for business. The hotel is well situated, has really nice rooms, three rather good restaurants and two swimming pools which are nice for an after-work swim, especially in summer when temperatures in Mexicali can get up to 45°C.

After all this hotel offers a very good relation between cost and offer, I definitely would recommend this hotel to any traveler, especially to foreigners.
