“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2006

The Camino Real Veracruz was a beautiful and well managed hotel. Room rates were very very reasonable considering the quality of the hotel. I was very happy with the quality of the room with a beautiful view of the ocean and swimming pool. Veracruz was very hot and humid during this time of the year, the air conditioning worked great. The restaurant at the hotel had a nice variety of foods with excellent service. It's close proximity to downtown and the mall made it very easy to travel and see the sites of Veracruz by taxi or bus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay at the Camino Real Veracruz on my next visit.

The Camino Real Veracruz is a really nice and modern hotel, defenitely is one of the best hotels in veracruz.
The rooms were confortable and nice, but they were very little.
The restaurant was really nice, and the lobby was nice but small.
I would recommend this hotel for everyone going to veracruz

We just returned from veracruz, veracruz. I would not recommeded to my worst enemy. It is dirty. Walls are dirty. Everything is falling or breaking. while we were there it started to rain and the water started to come in and all the clothes got wet. Don't get me wrong, it use to be a very nice hotel. We have gone for the past five years and have stayed a week and half and every year the hotel gets worse.
the price getting higher. we tried talking to the owners, but the joung man never did anything about it.

Last December some relatives got married in the Camino Real Hotel in Veracruz and it was a bad experience for all of us. The service was really bad, since the family arrived the front desk couldnt find the reservation that they made online with a cheaper rate and they have to paid the full rate to stay there. Also, the people in the front desk didnt pass some important calls to the guest and the worse thing at all, some money was missing from the room and the security team had some doubts about the family after they paid thousands of dollars in the wedding at their hotel. And some candles that we use for the decoration of the tables were missing too and nobody knows about them. It wasnt a good experience, so if you are looking for a place to get married next to the beach in Mexico I really dont recommend this hotel for that.

Hello from Canada:
My husband and I just spent a week in Veracruz on a holiday: 3 nights downtown at the Hotel Emporio and 3 nights on the beach at Boca del Rio at the Camino Real.
The Camino Real is certainly a 4 star hotel. It is extremely modern and caters to the business client and conferences. Evenso, we as tourist, had a wonderful reception there and were treated like royalty the whole time. Concierge service was helpful. The masseuse was also great! The motto of the hotel is 'at your service, always' and they most certainly were. The staff even say this motto when you thank them for something.
We were disappointed the 2 restaurants advertised only turned out to be 1 so choices on the menu were very limited for all 3 meals and snacks, but the food was very good. The smaller, outdoor restaurant that should be a Seafood House at night just wasn't happening. It doubled as the poolside cafe in the daytime. Closed at night.
The pool is lovely and the view from the entire hotel and the pool is fantastic. Be prepared for a million screaming kids at the pool, though, sometimes... the hotel caters to families coming on conferences with one of their parents. Lousy little gift store. No music in the itty-bitty little lounge in the lobby except for (and get this..) a computerized grand piano that plays from about 6 - 8 pm each evening! Tsk!
We had a great room: spacious, clean, modern, fabulous view; turn down service, king size bed as requested.
Location? Not that great. It's at the end of a long stretch of the Malecon and sandy beach but NOT within easy walking distance to the public beach and kiosks, eateries, etc. The beach is nice and the water warm. No surf and that's nice. Small barrier reef just off shore. However, the water was brown and murky and like all of the Port of Veracruz, the water smelled. The smell was even worse near the water in the evening... all over Veracruz. (One wonders where the sewage from the city and all of the huge ships is going!) There are some water sports available... but not on site. Vendors for this come up to the beach on their own boats or seadoos.
We asked the Concierge to help us find a romantic place to dine and dance nearby. First offer: a disco. No thanks. Found a rib joint from the States that had Jazz for us. No thanks. Finally recommended the most famous, very old Hotel Mocambo and called and made arrangments for us. A Trio plays bolero and more classical types of Spanish and Mexican music in the little lounge there. that was good. We also had supper at the Hotel Mocambo. Although the hotel is old and weathered and worn, the food was good. The hotel is very, very casual (no need to dress up). so.... we did not actually find a romantic place to dine and dance but honestly... there must be one in Veracruz. It's just that kind of place!
The Camino Real is located a short cab ride away from what the locals consider to be the 'fabulous' Plaza las Americas. Skip it. If you have seen one huge mega-mall in North America, Britain or France... you've seen this. The only cultural thing you'll find here is THE NOISE! Wow - we have never been in a mall that is that noisy every before. is this a construction flaw????
We did not take a cab into the centre of Veracruz because we had already spent 3 nights there. If you would like to read our thoughts on that... please click on Hotel Emporio reviews on this website.
In conclusion: the Camino Real is a lovely, clean and modern hotel with a great pool and good food. Would we stay again? Maybe, but we like a little more 'colour', variety and a little live entertainment in the evening.

Just returned from Veracruz and the Camino Real Hotel. This hotel is new, beautiful and reasonably priced. The staff was very helpful. A group of us stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the pool and restaurant. I booked directly with the Camino Real website and got the cheapest rate and it included buffet breakfast every morning. The breakfast was wonderful, it had a huge variety of foods. This hotel is relatively new and has modern furnishings. Some of the folks in our group had a junior suite that was really big and we had the regular room which was also a good size. Another plus is that all the rooms have an oceanview with a balcony.
The only negative about the hotel is that there seems to be a lot of employees that stand around and do nothing. They are attentive but all seem to hang out at the bar and talk to each other.
As for Veracruz... I see why the Mexican people go there for their vacations, it is reasonably priced in all aspects... taxis, food, entertainment. I have travelled to Cancun many times and was shocked that a taxi ride down to the center cost $4, the same ride would cost $15 in Cancun. The seafood prices were also good.
I will go back again and stay at the Camino Real. I think it's easily a 4 star hotel and the only thing its missing is a Spa.
