“The best place to stay in Xalapa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

The location and the beautiful view make of this hotel the best place to stay in Xalapa; The jazz nights and the food/wine options are excellent, the pool is really a great place to relax, and the rooms have everything you need for a great stay. Would definitely come back!!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

We are freshly returned from a totally enjoyable adventure to Xalapa Mexico, a city of charm and beauty that is unfortunately too undiscovered, perhaps one might say that that is why it is so intriguing and unique. We had excellent accommodation and I would like to share what we discovered with you.
We chose to stay at the Colombe Hotel Boutique, originally we were thinking of going to the Crowne Plaza, however I spoke with a close friend who lives in Xalapa and I also mentioned we were considering the Colombe Hotel Boutique due to the one review I had read on Tripadviso.. My Xalapeno friend highly recommended Colombe Hotel over the Crowne Plaza because it was more conveniently located and brand new. We are now so very happy with what he suggested and that we chose the Colombe Hotel Boutique. There is so much to say about this quiet, chic, elegant hotel that is all positive. Personally I can't think of a single reason why anyone who is going to Xalapa would not make this their first and only choice as a place to stay. Definitely I would hold this up against any 4 Star Hotel I have stayed at in any important world city. But somehow this hotel has even more to offer than most 4 star hotels when it comes to class and elegance and service, let me explain.
Firstly the location is perfect, perched on a hillside right on the edge of downtown, so you get all of the convenience of being right next to where all the action is, without the noise and disturbances and even the pollution of lots of vehicles. As the hotel is more or less built
vertically up the side of a hill you get wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and bustling downtown core. Our room had a spacious private balcony with table and comfortable chairs that allowed us to see the starry evening sky, or watch the sunrise reflected on the distant mountain side and the kaleidoscope of the buildings in centro laid out before you. We like to walk, and explore, so this location close to downtown was perfect for us, we liked to start our day at Parque Juárez, which is a beautiful terraced park with towering araucaria trees and a magnificent vista of distant volcanic mountain Pico Orizaba (3rd highest mountain in North America) and the closer volcano Cofre de Perote. Located next to the Parque Juárez is the centro district of downtown full of stores, and restaurants and romantic sights, sounds and smells, government buildings and the Xalapa Cathedral. It's a comfortable walk around all of the downtown streets with stores galore and more shoe stores than I have seen anywhere in my life.
The room we booked included a king sized bed and balcony terrace, it was very fresh, clean and quite ergonomic, not overly large but very functional with a large closet and a wonderful spacious tiled bathroon, with Jacuzzi tub and modern shower heads. Our bed was extremely comfortable, a high quality king sized mattress with a pillow top that gave us great sleeps. The linens were soothing at the end of a long day and the pillows and duvet added to the overall warmth and comfort of the bed. We awoke recharged and well rested, something that is very important when you are travelling away from the bed you are used to sleeping in.
An added bonus to staying at Colombe Hotel Boutique in Xalapa, was that breakfast was included at the in-house Peccato Restaurant, so each day we had the most delicious choices of breakfast dishes, freshly brewed coffee, hand squeezed orange juice, gourmet quality egg dishes, fresh fruit, my mouth waters just writing this down, all caringly prepared and served hot from the kitchen in a gracious yet elegant style. An absolutely wonderful way to start the day and to energize you, wholesome, healthy and nourishing filling.
We did take advantage of Peccato Restaurant a few other times, there is an outside dining/lounging area, if the morning was mild enough we would eat outside on the extended terrace, resplendant with scenic views, or join with friends for a beverage of choice while we engaged in conversation. One evening we sat in and heard an enjoyable session by a live jazz combo, the attached bar, La Chimenea is appropriately cool and sophisticated, yet relaxing and accommodating.
Throughout the many tiers or levels of Colombe there are displayed many unique and interesting eclectic art pieces ranging from jewelry and pottery to beautiful modern glass chandeliers and paintings, combined with the architecture of the building, and the openness of the floor plan along with the tropical plants and modern look you end up feeling like you are in some very large modern designer mansion, everyone on the staff is very friendly, and accommodating, and there was always a smile attached to any interactions we had with staff during our complete stay.
Completing our experience and with the obvious attention to detail that we found throughout Hotel Colombe there is also a beautiful heated outdoor pool, wireless internet in all rooms, a business center and a meeting room. Front desk staff was very helpful and very friendly and efficient. It is also worth mentioning that this hotel is not part of a large chain of hotels, or even a group of hotels, it is family owned and run, which means in actuality that you receive wonderful care and attention, with rooms that are clean and modern, care is taken to details and providing fpr an enjoyable stay for clientele. Because the ownership is essentially onsite you as a client superb service and excellent accommodation, and really after all isn't that what you want and deserve?
Overall I would have to say that this was the most enjoyable accommodation I have been to in many a year. I highly recommend the Colombe Hotel Boutique to anyone considering travelling to Xalapa, it simply cannot be beat and is truly a world class Boutique Hotel at affordable rates. Choose this Hotel for your stay in Xalapa, it simply is the best and you will be the benefit of a top quality hotel with the warmth and friendliness associated with a family run business. Colombe Hotel Boutique is simply superb and a sure fire winner in my eyes!

I have stayed at this Hotel twice. The staff and owners are the nicest people we have ever met. The service is above excellent. From the beautiful rooms with large baloney, to the restaurant that looks over the city of Xalapa, this is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. I recommend this hotel to all my friends, the location is great. Thankyou COLOMBE , WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN. JAN HALVORSON AND JAMES GOODALE.
