“A Slice of Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

If you are looking for a remote slice of paradise, this is where you want to be. The setting is lovely. The bungalows are rustic but very comfortable. The view from our porch was incredible. The food is fabulous. The staff is warm and attentive. The hotel provides taxi service which is worth the expense. Remote is not easy to achieve in today's world and the last 3 kms of the trip can be a bit challenging. But the drivers are very experienced and do a good job. If you want to shut down and forget about life for a while this is the perfect place. Highly recommend it!

We had such a nice time at Bahia de la luna! The staff is extremelly nice, and they make their best to make you feel at home and ease. The location is amazing, one of the few place where you can actually swim in the whole area, we spotted many animals, and we could not believe we had such a paradisiac beach for ourselves, and, most surprisingly, the food is incredible!!
Yes, the road to get there is harsh, but not that hard to do it (we had a small rented chevy, it had rained really hard two days before we left, and we managed it perfectly well). The cabanas can be a bit damp when it rains a lot, but as long as you know it - which is normal, as you are sleeping in the middle of the most stunning and pure nature - all is fine.
We can't wait to go back!!!

Wonderful beach week, even though it rained a bit. The managers Dan and Maria Elena were good company, both warm and attentive. If there is a single adventurous bone in your body you will love the setup, Like "Lost" with a gourmet kitchen and a lending shed of books, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment. The food is amazing, 5 of the the most delicious vacation meals I've ever eaten. (Trust me I'm chubby). The beach felt like our own little secret. Gorgeous water, swimmable and loaded with angel fish. The thatched rooms were rustic and cosy, but you won't spend much time in there. 5 stars .

The hotel is secluded, food is carefully prepared, the beach is beautiful, staff are friendly but professional and knowledgeable... but if you drive here like we did, it is a difficult, narrow, dangerous, long, dark, dirt road down to the hotel. I thought that by having a car during our stay we would be visiting other places (the villiage of Puerto Angel) and beaches, but once you're settled at Bahia de la Luna, you don't want to drive out of there until you have to. So, whether you drive or take a boat or taxi, you're pretty much sequestered, so expect to consume at the hotel. Also, some of the cabins are a brisk upward walk from the beach/hotel office/restaurant which older folks or handicapped cannot do. I was not aware of that. HOWEVER, yes, I would return (by boat) and make sure I get a closer cabin to the beach

Room Tip: Get a beach level room.

I was reading reviews for an upcoming trip and was shocked to find that I never submitted a review for Bahia de la Luna on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. This was a beautiful and wonderful stay. My father and I were traveling together and I chose this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews. I was lucky that they had one cabana available with two beds when we arrived because I hadn't realized that this was sort of a couples place. My dad and I were maybe in the minority as a family but ended up having a great time. The place is RUSTIC, there are bugs, there are mice, and thatched roofs, and cold water in the showers. None of that matters though because it is so darn beautiful and serene that you just chalk it up to more time to spend on the beach.

The food was incredible. Freshly caught seafood each night, great breakfasts with fresh juices and fruit, and fabulous cocktails that you can enjoy in hammocks or sitting on the beach. One thing that really impressed me was what reasonable prices are charged for the meals and drinks given that they basically have a captive audience (it takes time and an adventurous cab driver to go to and from the hotel).

Anyway, I would love to visit bahia de la luna again in the future and highly recommmend!

How wonderful to be remembered and appreciated after three years!
Yes, the 3K road is rough, but passable, but we''ve paved the interior road and put in lighted pathways to the beach cabanas. We've also added some hanging beach beds that have been a big hit. Recent visitors saw a rare whale shark in addition to our more common si

We stayed in Bahia de la Luna for 4 nights in late March 2011, and it was the end of one of my most memorable vacations.
We flew from Oaxaca city into Huatulco airport, only 40 minutes, strongly recommended, and then took a 50 minute cab ride to BDLL. The last 15 minutes were a little rough.
When we finally arrived to destination, charming Mariana (the Star manager!) greeted us and walked with us to our cabania "Venus": palapa style, bed with mosquito net and a shower. Simple, but you don't need more than that when you are in paradise.
The location coudn't have been better or prettier, the water was perfect and we had a huge palapa umbrella and chairs just for the two of us. We also used the hotel's snorkel equipment, and played beach volleyball, really fun! I didn't dare to kayak but they also had 5 kayaks for guests and everybody was doing it!
Because its so far away from the closest town, and we didn't have a car, we ate there every night, and it was simply great: the have a young but experienced Chef, lovely Laila Chagra, and she would make two choices of entrees and main dishes, usually so good that it was hard to decide which ones to get (because I was with my husband we would get one of each!). We had everything, but the shrimp skewers with pineapple were memorable, the tuna super fresh, and the onion soup so comforting!
Due to the fact that its a small property, and a full house it means barely 40 people, the service is very very good.
The manager was very accomodating and helped us with everything we needed: boat tours, massages, random questions about the flora and fauna (she happens to be a Biologist), and in one oportunity during dinner service there was a small snake close to one of the guests (who didnt notice the snake) and she quietly told her to stand up and walk away from her seat, as an employee came with a broom and brushed the snake away. Nobody got hurt and she handled it beautifully.
I can't wait to go back, i LOVED EVERY SECOND.

Thanks so much for your insightful review. Our staff tries hard to please and its great that you appreciated their attentiveness. If there was "sand in your shoe" when you arrived home it means you'll return...hopefully soon!
