I had lunch at Garufa, Argentinean Steakhouse, during my stay in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The place's decoration is clean and plain, but offers a nice, warm, illuminated ambiance. Service is prompt, very courteous and friendly. The menu offers from appetizers (the empanadas, made to order, are delicious) thru salads, pastas, vegetarian options and, surely, a wide selection of Argentinean- style beef cuts.
Started up with one straight-up Herradura Reposado tequila shot sided by the wonderful house-made "sangrita"- a small shot of spicy tomato juice (like in the Bloody Mary), but with a zest of orange juice, which is to be sipped along with the tequila, according to the ritual. Never saw beef cuts offered in portions as large as those in this place, before - from 300 g up. I ordered a small mixed salad, which was very fresh, and a 400 g sirloin steak given it had no smaller. I must confess the steak won as the portion size is perfectly suitable for two really hungry adults. The meat, cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, yet somewhat tasteless, was served on an iron skillet sided by four grilled green chillis and sautéed onions. Should I knew it and wouldn't have ordered the salad. A glass of a rich Mexican cabernet sauvignon – Chello, suggested by my local friend - paired perfectly with the meat and made the meal even richer. The meal was great, as a whole, as price for food was OK yet drinks were somewhat pricey!
