“Good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Stayed for 2 nights with our Groupon voucher- initially disappointed with our room-36-extremely tired and dated, in desperate need of refurbishment....with an overwhelming Fourposter bed with lumpy mattress.....but truly appreciated the beautiful view and quite honestly wouldn't take much to upgrade room.
However, exceptionally friendly and willing staff, restaurant food pretty good and stayed to eat at the hotel on second night.
Advantage: Free Wi Fi in reception area Disadvantage : No mobile phone reception but hotel couldn't be blamed for that..at least we heard no mobiles going off in dining area....
In a nutshell we thought it was a good hotel but lots of competition in the area.

Thanks for staying with us and posting your review. Good value is what we are going for, along with brilliant staff, comfortable surroundings and delicious food; I'm pleased we hit the mark for your stay! I cannot quite explain why some mobile providers have no service, but Vodafone does work and Orange too, just for reference! Thanks again.

My wife and I stayed here to take advantage of the spa and gym facilities whilst benefiting from a groupon offer. Having had several injuries in the past I wanted a deep tissue body massage and having had good and bad in the past I found the masseuse to be excellent and very knowledgeable. My wife was as impressed with her treatments.
The gym area was adequate but a little cramped and the equipment dated.Sauna, steam room and pool were lovely although not much room to relax at the poolside.
The room was nice and comfortable with a good selection of teas and coffee etc We weren't going to have dinner on the 2nd night but as the food was excellent we just had to.
My only gripe with the food was at breakfast. I have found with varying class of hotel that the scrambled egg looks like papier mache.but not tasting as nice and the fried eggs swim in fat.Thankfully you can ask for poached egg which comes fresh and hot.
All in all an excellent place to relax and be looked after by the very warm and welcoming staff
Where I have rated things as average it is because that is my benchmark for what I was hoping to expect for that category

Room Tip: Room 22 was next to the store room and was a little noisy quite early in the morning!

I had a groupon offer & decided to use this for my boyfriends birthday weekend, the offer included an upgraded room but unfortunately when i booked this the upgraded room was unavailable for the weekend i needed. It was a great shame as it was for a special occasion & i have to say the room we were given was rather small & pokey, thankfully we did not spend too much time in the room & this did not spoil our stay. The hotel staff are friendly & the food we had was very nice. The hotel is in a peaceful & pretty setting & about a 5-10 minute drive away from the Lake.

Five couples have just spent an excellent weekend here. A discerning lot, the only complaint was about some noisy neighbours in the room next door to one couple - hardly the fault of the hotel. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and polite, and gave excellent and friendly service. Most of the rooms we stayed in were huge, some with 4-poster beds and jacuzzis. The lounge had a roaring fire and comfortable sofas, while the bar was nicely arranged so that different groups were a little separate from each other, giving some privacy.

The best aspect, though, was the food. We had two 3-course table d'hote dinners, with lots of choice on each course. Everything we ate was delicious, beautifully presented, and well served. The chef deserves very high praise. Even the buffet breakfasts were good, with constant replenishment of each item - and all tasty and well cooked.

We would certainly recommend this hotel, even though none of us used the leisure facilities.

Lovely, quaint hotel in easy reach of various walks in and around the Lakes. The rooms are cosy and clean, food is fabulous and the staff friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The fire and sofas in the Reception area are fabulous when it's cold and it's easy to nod off in there. Added bonus of the pool, sauna and steam rooms and it's a lovely getaway whatever the weather. Will be going back

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the fields/gardens at the back are very quiet

We had a lovely few days here, very good value for money, but not if paying full price, only one English person we met worked there, everyone else Eastern European, one breakfast staff whipped my plate away before i'd finished. I was quite annoyed. We were under the impression it was near the lake on the pics, but not close to the water at all.

Thank you for staying with us and for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and found us to be good value for money. I am sorry that someone removed your plate before you were finished; it is very unlike our friendly staff to do something like that. I shall have a word. Thanks again.

Me and my girlfriend recently stayed at the damson dene and I don't think it would be possible to offer a single complaint. Service is great rooms are cosy the food is delicious the scenery is perfect, best 2 night stay I have ever had made possible by everyone at Damson! My only complaint and this is being very picky is the lack of gold fish in the pond! Think that would be a swimming edition to the place! Stay here! You won't regret it!

It might be a touch cool in the winter for goldfish in the pond and I am not sure if ducks and goldfish can even co-exist! Thanks for your review and stay with us. We are so pleased that you had your best stay ever with us! Do come back and see us!
