After looking at various reviews on the internet, we found The Punch Bowl and decided to visit. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed, and despite no booking, we were offered a choice of tables. Throughout our meal, the service was of the highest standard, without being over attentive.
For starters we had Moroccan lamb and duck breast. The Moroccan lamb was delicious, but I couldn't really taste the duck breast, and it was quite dry. For mains we had the cod and halibut, which were both delicious. And for pudding, we had the apple delice and the raspberry creme brulee.
The apple delice was very tasty, and the raspberry creme brulee was very nice, but it was more like a raspberry mousse on a white chocolate sponge. We did think that the menu descriptions could better match what was delivered to the table, as I didn't receive what I was expecting with the duck or raspberry creme brulee.
However, the food was beautifully presented, and portion sizes were well judged. We both left feeling satisfied. This gastro pub has pretensions to fine dining, so don't go here if you're wanting hearty pub grub! But if you're looking for an upscale country pub, with excellent food and service, the Punchbowl would be worth visiting.
