If the weather had been only half as good as High Green Farm, and the lovely Nora, we would have been really, really lucky. It was about the only thing that Nora couldn’t do anything about, but believe us, nothing else was too much trouble, and if it had been within her power to change it, I don’t doubt we would have had mid-80’s and glorious sunshine!
From the moment we booked for a few days away, we felt to be really special guests. Given choice of the rooms when we arrived, home-made cake whilst we settled in, and as much help as we needed about where to go and what to see or where to eat .... no problem. The room we had was lovely, overlooking the stream and across to the Fells, it was really relaxing, and had everything we needed. Very comfortable bed, super shower, fluffy towels, flat screen freeview tv, tea and coffee, and the freedom to come and go as we pleased.
Breakfast was a treat – indicate your preference of a variety of cooked choices the night before, and after fresh fruit salad, cereals, yoghurts, juices, toast, tea and coffee, Nora brought it in cooked to perfection. Full English, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, potato waffles with poached eggs and tomato – couldn’t fault any of the choices we had. It was also our anniversary whilst we were there, and we turned up to breakfast to find two most definitely home-baked carrot-cake cupcakes and a beautiful congratulations tag with it. We had brought some champers, and that was given cold storage for us for the day, and Nora even popped our Wensleydale cheese in the fridge until we grudgingly left to come home!
An absolute bargain in a real home from home, in a beautiful setting. Ideally placed for either the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District, I don’t think we can recommend High Green Farm highly enough.
