“Definitely stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2011

My hubby and I have just returned from Whitbarrow Village and we had a brilliant time. The reception area was nicely decorated and the staff were very friendly. Restaurant and bar area were also good. Our accommodation was better than expected, we were given a three bedroomed house which was nicely decorated, comfortable and had all the mod cons, though the pillows were uncomfortable so I'd take my own next time. It's in a very quiet area so you definitely need a car as the local pubs are quite a walk away. We would definitely stay again and I'd recommend it to older couples and families. The grounds are kept really neat and tidy. They could do with parasols on the balcony by the outside bar, it's a lovely view and we would have sat out there in the rain with a bottle of wine (or two)!

Its definately luck of the draw with this resort, some of the accomadation is lovely, others tired and in need of a refurbishment. We stayed in Skiddaw 1, the main lights in the bedroom flickered and flashed and interferred with the tv signal. You could only fill the bath through the shower head which took an age. Extreme care had to be taken when showering so as not to soak the toilet and floor because of the fixed angle of the shower head and the lack of length of the shower curtain and design. The upholstery on the dining chairs was very stained, ditto the cushion covers on lounge furniture. Not the 'luxury' accomaadation as advertised on Seasons web-site. BEWARE

Lovely, if remote. situatation. Excellent base for seeing the lakes, Penrith, etc.
We enjoyed the peaceful house which was well equipped, very clean and with pretty views on all sides. Could not work TV at first (absolutely non technical family) but recepionist came over quickly to help. We were not pressed into discussing buying and did not go to any presentation. Only criticism was that the lighting was very poor and we were unable to read in the evenings. We felt there was too much emphasis on being 'green' and the recycling was awsome! Weather was awful but we enjoyed Whitbarrow very much. All pubs in the area served excellent food. Stunning scenery nearby.

The place is great. The sales staff are pushy, rude and desperate.
It's run by Michael Ball's brother and there is a 'three line whip' once a week to get everyone into the bar to listen to him sing. No wonder it's his brother whose the star and he's running a camp.

It was before May 2010 that we went but you cannot enter an earlier date.

We exchanged a spare Interval week just a couple of days beforehand and were amazed to be given a 3 bedroomed cottage which was well equipped and in excellent order. There is solid oak new furniture, plenty of quality cotton bedding and towels and everything you could want for a week's stay for 8 people (apart from washcloths!). There was plenty of bedding for a mid-week change. The Sunday carvery and two mid-week dinners were amazingly good and rasonably priced. We even stayed in the bar for the entertainment, which we would not normally do. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well kept. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. This was so much better than the 3 Interval exchanges we have done to the USA and was our first really positive experience with Interval. The grounds were well kept with grass, shale and rustic paving so no good if you want flat tarmac and concrete. All the units we saw looked nice. There were indeed lots of signs but if this contributes to the overall neatness of the place surely no-one can object. The area is away from the main Lakes area but perfectly accessible with lots of nice local pubs. it was good to explore this north Lakes area. We vow to return.

We exchanged our five-star resort with Interval International for this resort. The resort is in a remote area and there is no signage for the resort until the very final turn...thank goodness for GPS! We arrived just a few minutes after 9:00 pm and found that the staff had left for the day and left our packet on the counter. The resort area had very little lighting and we required a flashlight to get into our unit. The "after hours" employee who helped us get in was very surprised by the inside of the unit and commented that he rarely was in this unit. Evidently, we had been assigned to a very old unit...the unit was freezing since the heaters had all been turned off. Everything in the unit needs to be replaced; it was appalling. There was just one double bed, even though there was plenty of room for a much larger bed. The paint was peeling off the walls in the bathroom. There were no washcloths and only two hand towels (for a unit that is supposed to sleep 4). There was no coffee pot even though it was specifically listed on the resort amenity list from Interval International.
The next morning, we asked if we could switch to a different unit and the staff quickly said "no"; we pushed a little and they said they were sure there wouldn't be any units available (even though it is definitely off-peak time for this area!). We were also told that if we wanted to use the restaurant, we would have to make reservations 24 hours in advance. When we inquired about the wash cloths (assuming they had just been overlooked in our unit), we were told "I guess we don't use those here in Britain." (Hmmm...I've had them in every hotel I've stayed at in Britain.)

We did use the indoor pool area one night and it was very nice and clean; however, in peak time, I think it would become crowded very quickly.

It was very inconvenient to leave our car in the car park, since our unit was the farthest from the car park. The car park was only roughly paved and very muddy when it rained.
Overall, it seemed that every corner had been cut at this resort. If the unit we stayed in was one of the original ones, it should have been refurbished years ago. The resort advertises itself as "maintenance fee free" and it is obvious. There are reasons that most time share resorts have maintenance fees....to maintain high standards, refurbish units on a timely basis, pave parking lots, install signage, etc.
After just four nights, we'd had enough of the small bed, lumpy mattress, and worn out furnishings. We checked out and headed back to London. I would NOT recommend this resort to anyone exchanging with Interval International!!

What a wonderful time we had at Whitbarrow holiday village, from the moment we called Lakes Cottage Holidays to make the initial booking to the day our holiday ended can only be described as WONDERFUL.

This as promised by Emma at Lakes Cottage Holidays when we booked was a fantastic place to stay the facilities are top quality. We arrived by car and left it in the car park for the duration of our holiday. The swimming pool, gym, bar and restaurant we all perfect.

Thank you Lakes and Whitbarrow we had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend to friends and family.

See you again soon !!!!
