“A top quality Hotel in lovely surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

This was our 3rd visit to this hotel on our way to Scotland. It is located within the Westmorland Services on the northbound carriageway of the M6, but also accessible from the southbound carriageway. We had previously stayed at the camp site many times when we had a motorhome or caravan. I always wanted to stay at this hotel (when it used to be called Tebay Mountain Lodge) and eventually we decided to give it a try, firstly 3 years ago, then last year and more recently last week.

Again we had a lovely relaxing time there having a beautiful evening meal cooked to perfection. Breakfast was help yourself with a great choice, even kippers and porridge were on the menu.

Staying here feels like a real luxurious treat, as it is quite a bit more expensive than I would usually pay for a hotel, but I felt it was well worth it for just one night and I have booked another night for the return homeward journey.

Room Tip: The Executive rooms are nice and the views lovely

Stayed in two rooms with two adults and four kids and a dog in a hotel in lovely setting with good views and far enough from M6 to be quiet enough to have windows open, and good local walks for the dog.
Well appointed rooms with very comfy beds, but needs overhaul as all slightly shabby. Great bunks in a cupboard although there was a broken part to the top bunk, and the safety bar is too high, which would allow a child to roll under it. Not the cleanest bathroom, but plentiful supply of hot water. One room had proper coffee maker, the other didn't - apparently they often get stolen...
Staff friendly but slightly inefficient, forgetting one child's peas and our green salads at supper - great burgers perfectly cooked.
Incredible breakfast with fresh fruit salad, croissants, local sausages, but again they forgot one hot chocolate and the tea.
Very expensive though - if we'd come away from the motorway we'd have found omething for half the price, but it was easy.
Would we stay again? If we came into some money!

We use Westmorland when travelling, a good stopover a few hours from home. Rooms are Very comforable, dining is always good, buffet breakfast can be a struggle when it is busy but the staff try to keep on top of it. Wifi can be a problem, there isn't any.

Reliably comfortable and pleasant place to stay near the motorway to Scotland. Accessible from Tebay Services, but far enough away from traffic to be quiet and have a great rural outlook. Good food and efficient service.

Room Tip: The old part next above the dining room is better than the newer extension.

Stayed here for 2 days as a birthday treat. The hotel is ideally situated to visit the lakes as you are very close to the motorway making exploring the area easy. The rooms are very clean, well furnished, warm and comfortable. The staff were very good, especially the young blonde lady in the dining room who was pleasant and very efficient.

We had dinner at the hotel which was excellent, it was hot and delicious, well cooked and presented.

The full English cooked breakfast is buffet style and it was enormous and set us up for the day. The cost of the drinks is average - nothing to make your eyes water. We will visit this hotel again as it was great value for money.

One minor point - the signage for the hotel is not brilliant, we came through Orton village and found it quite difficult to locate the hotel even with the sat nav this could be problematic at night or in the winter when it is more difficult to see.

Room Tip: We had room 34 which is at the rear of the hotel on the first floor. It was very quite and bright...

Had a 3 night stay at the Westmorland, and was impressed with the accommodation. The receptionist was welcoming, abd the staff in the restaurant friendly and polite. We had a "superior" room, which was spacious, and overlooked open fields and hillsides. All facilities in the room, although not many tv channels if you wanted a choice. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and well presented as you would expect with an AA Rosette. The only downside, was that it was the same menu each night, and although there was a choice for each course, if you didn't like one or two of the dishes, then you would soon be having the same meal again.

Stayed here to break a journey north. Room lovely and clean apart from a hair in the tea and coffee tray. Bathroom floor dirty with dust and hairs, but the receptionist was very apologetic and offered to send housekeeping. Breakfast excellent. There was a wedding on when we arrived but it didn't disturb us too much, though I did feel a bit sorry for the bride as we lugged our bags through the middle of her reception :-/ My children really enjoyed running around in the field at the back, which has got some great little ponds, plants and beasties. The proximity of the services is a bonus because you can get really nice food without having to eat in the restaurant.
