stayed at this place for three days on business with the UN in Oct 2011. It had recently opened and competes with the only other place to stay called the silk road hotel which is closed over the winter months due to lack of heating. The Norban hotel is more central but one must negotiate a rickety wooden "bridge" across the river to get to the only shopping street. It offers decent afghan/western style accomodation and is relatively secure - although bamyan is a basically tranquil area anyway and a fascinating and truly beautiful place to visit. The complimentary breakfast was appalling. The staff were however very welcoming and the hotel is nicely decorated and warm in winter. the rooms are newly built and pretty good at half the price of the silk road which relied on its monopoly for years. If you want a truly afghan experience try Mama Najafs in the Bazaar - its a great kebab eatery and you can sleep on comfortable mats on the second floor in true afghan style. If we ever have peace in this country bamyan will be the place to visit in winter and summer for the more adventourous traveller. the only problem is actually getting there!!
