We stayed here for one night in early October to break up a driving tour of Italy. Located about an hours drive from the autostrada, Rotunda nestles in a mountain valley at the entrance to the Pollino national park between Basilicata and Calabria.
Rotunda is an extremely quiet and sleepy place; we stopped off for lunch at De Peppes restaurant in the town centre, had an excellent meal and were advised by the owners to stay at Cuore Verde. They called the owner, who promptly appeared to pick us up and guide us on the short drive out of town to her farmhouse retreat.
There are three rooms that share a communal dining room and balcony, with a small kitchen like room equipped with a table and fridge. Our room was at the back and very spacious, with a brand new bathroom that gleamed with cleanliness. They've clearly put a lot of effort into making the rooms beautiful, modern and comfortable and it shows. During our stay the other rooms were unoccupied which gave us lots of privacy and full run of the dining room and balcony, it might be a little too cosy for some if other guests you don't know are staying too (although it would make a great place to stay for small groups or larger families).
What's really great about this place is the wonderful farm setting (the family obviously make most of their money from agriculture) with fields of tomatoe vines, grape vines, pumpkins, corn, lemon and olvie tress all around. It cost 50 euros a night for the room which was a bargain. We happily recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet place to stay, or to hikers.
