“An Absolute Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

My brother and I stayed for one night 7th August, as we were on a business trip. Within 10 minutes of our arrival, we were already planning when we would stay for a leisure break. Tim and Hilary are perfect hosts. Warm, friendly accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and the even arranged beautiful weather for us! We were also booked into the Clansman restaurant which was also fantastic.
All rooms are spotless and well appointed and our breakfast was definately the best breakfast by far, that we have ever had. Only the finest quality ingredients were used, but a special mention to the homemade bread, and the homemade shortbread and filtered water which was in our rooms.
Tim and Hilary, you are a delightful couple, with a beautiful establishment which I am sure you are extremely proud of.
We look forward to seeing you in the near future!

And to anyone reading this review and thinking of staying, DONT HESITATE!

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious and quiet, but if you want as spectular sea view, book one of the double room...

From our enthusiastic welcome from Tim to our departure from Hawthorne House, we absolutely loved it, and were spoiled by our lovely host and hostess. The accommodation is spotless. The breakfasts are superb. Very friendly and always helpful. Thanks for booking the Clansman restaurant for us (also superb, by the way). Everything here was just right. Hawthorne House comes highly recommended, as do Tim and Hilary, oh and Ted too :o)

A very clean & tidy property, lovely hosts & view of the sea - what's not to like.
Thank you Tim & Hilary for your kind hospitality & your advice on the local area.
The house hunting went well & we look forward to being neighbours at some stage in the future!

Room Tip: The King size en suite has wonderful views

We're glad the house hunting is going well and, as we said, do call for any local info should it be required. If you do settle in the Machars area, do let us know where you are.
Thanks again.

Wow! And yes, I really mean it.

My wife and I were on a motorcycle tour of Scotland when the weather turned a bit wet and windy. We rang Tim with one day's notice, explained that we were bikers and wondered on availability. Luckily there was an availability in the double room, (which has the most amazing views of the coast and the Irish Sea), and on questioning about places to park the motorbikes, Tim was even willing, (although it was not needed), to clear a space in his garage to store the bikes!

On arrival we were soaked through, however this did not worry Hillary or Tim - they just collected all our wet gear, including helmets, gloves and boots and placed them on their airers near to their oven to dry them for us.

We were made to feel extremely welcome and I wouldn't go too far by stating that we were welcomed into a home more than a B&B, even being invited to spend time in the lounge, rather than be tucked away in a room.

Food - the food was amazing! The bread was freshly baked, home-made shortbread in our room with a great selection of teas and coffee, (with fresh milk, not just UHT). Breakfast was amazing and set us up well for our ongoing journey, the next day.

The finishing touches - Tim and Hillary stood outside and waved us off and tucked away in one of our bags, a little gift from Hillary..........more of her lovely shortbread.

I can't recommend a visit to Hawthorn House enough. Great location, great B&B, great food and most of all, great hospitality. Thank you!

Dai and Anne

Wow indeed!
What a glowing review! Thank you so much for your kind comments in your wonderful review.
It is very pleasing and lovely to know that guests really do appreciate - even consider it going the extra mile - the service that we consider standard practice at Hawthorn House.
Appreciation of our product is a great reward - and even better when posted on consumer review sites such as TripAdvisor.
We hope the rest of your trip was successful (Triumph Tiger Nut-sorry, enthusiasts- gathering included) and that you'll drop in to us again if a future adventure/trip brings you to Galloway.
Thanks again for the review.

Most has already been said in earlier reviews.

This is a very comfortable B&B, in a peaceful location, with easy access to a variety of interesting places to visit. You will experience a very warm welcome from easy going hosts and a standard that reflects the careful thought which has clearly gone into making your stay as pleasant as possible.

We booked the large 'king size' room which overlooks the sea. Fresh milk and filtered water in the room, along with home made shortbread, added a nice touch. This is the only room with an ensuite, spacious, which contains a shower. However, the main bathroom, which contains a bath, looks very welcoming if that is your preference.

Everything is spotless and clearly well maintained. If you intend a long stay there is ample storage in the bedroom, allowing you to avoid living out the suitcase.

The breakfast is well organised and the menu is comprehensive.

Very important and not experienced everywhere - you will get a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed.
