“so overbooked they don't care if they are accommodating guests adequately”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Pros: central to most activities, ok snorkelling, close to marina, adequately clean, Japanese restaurant was good

Cons: the hotel overbooks to the point they cannot accomodate even the most basic of requests. My boyfriend and I had 1 request - king size bed. I was first off the bus and first in line to Register in the lobby where I was told there was not 1 room available in the entire hotel (& adjoining hotel) that had a king size bed. We were Fred & Wilma for 3 nights in 2 double beds.

Two single women - behind us in the check in line - requested 2 double beds, and received a King bed with an upgrade to the Privelaged section.

3 days of going back to the lobby to request a change - was not until I brought up trip advisor that suddenly a room with a king bed became available.

late check out - IF you can get a late checkout it is $40 CAN. There were 6 of us in our group, checkout is noon, our bus did not leave to the airport until 11:30pm, all of us were refused late checkout - at both lobbies. I persisted and finally got a small room for the 6 of us to share until 6pm.

I have never seen front desk staff so programmed to say NO. I have stayed at Breezes, Bahia Principe, Palladium, Las Brisas, and I have NEVER seen such unaccomodating staff.

NEVER AGAIN

Room Tip: section 1 was close to everything, we finally had a room with king bed in 1011

“Great area, great snorkeling, rocky beach.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Our second visit here, 1st time in 2008. Overall a decent trip, the weather although warm was cloudy quite a bit and we had mostly red flag days except for 2 yellows in a weeks vacation. Food was ok, service was great.
We had a standard room in the 2 building. Very quiet area, but central to everything. No alarm clocks or fridges in rooms. You only get a few water bottles in your room first day then you need to refill them on your own. I hear the privileged rooms for extra $'s had these amenities that were lacking in the standard rooms.
We traveled with teenagers and there was def a lot of activities to keep them occupied. The sports center has pool tables and ping pong, a great way to meet other people.
The beach IS rocky, water shoes def recommended. Snorkeling is awesome as there is a reef just feet away from shore. Not the sandy beaches of Cuba by far.. And can't walk on beach very far, just to the right to walk thru the adjacent hotel then back. However great walk in the gated area of Puerto Aventuras... So beautiful and safe.
We did the ATV tour, with a visit to a cenote and snorkeling, was awesome, even though rough for a beginner rider.
Overall a good trip.

“Unfortunate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Having arrived with extended family all looked promising good surroundings decent food/facilities friendly staff hope was in the air ,daytime fine ,upto midnight all bars busy to be expected fine, what we did not expect from midnight to five in the morning every night was the constant flow of loud mouthed obnoxious drunken scum (American French and Spanish)that seemed thourorly intent on destroying any chance of a few minutes rest ,hence having booked 2weeks holiday and despite the best efforts of representatives and staff and at great expense after8days it was more acceptable to leave one week earlier than planed than stay any longer and loose our sanity unfortunate

Room Tip: Do not stay on the yuca tan side if you want to remain sane

“Not the Worst vacation but definately NOT the best!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Well this is two resorts connected together. You just enter at opposite ends of the resort. We hvae had better vacations in the past throught out Mexico and Dominican, but out of all of them this was the one we were least pleased with. It started off checking in and they try to get yout o upgrade to a different room for extra money without even seeing the room I have. Once I said know they wanted to upgrade me to a higher room for more money. Again I said no. Get to the room and its and not bad. Basic room. They dont tell you that you have to pay for your room safe. The lunch restaurant was infested with birds so you couldnt even eat without being dive bombed. The serving staff at the yucatan said swim up bar were rude. my 4 year old and I swam up and waited 25 minutes and still didnt get served, no-one wanted to come down to the pool side. all 5 servers were on the upper level searving other people and chatting with each other. When I went up to the other said and asked if anyone was working on the pool side. He said no and turned away. I asked he could send someone down for all of us waiting again he said not right now he was busy. And again he turned away and was talking to another employee. That's a little annoying. ALL SHOPS IN THE RESORT DO NOT TAKE ANY FORM OF CASH. You have to charge it to your room and pay for it when you check out. Then when you check out they only accept Canadian no Peso and no USD. On day 4 the power went out in the morning and almost all the bars were closed and the resturants werent open either. Just the Buffet's with limited lighting. None in the lights in the rooms or hallways were on with the backup generators. People were stumbling to find their way around and some people got injured falling down stairs in the dark. We had to fumble around in the dark to find the reception desk just to beg to get a candle to put in the room for some light. Once all the problems were fixed at the hotel the last 2 days were fine. but al I said not the best vacation but definately not the worst. If i had a choice to come back to this location. The answere would be no. I'd rather goto the Pacific side like Manzanillo Mexico or to Punta Cana The Dominican Republic. But just my option.
