“Finally, what you have been looking for!”

We've been to the Barcelo Maya Palace 5 times and are planning to go again. We've travelled quite a bit and used to never go to the same place twice. Once we got to the Barcelo Palace, we absolutely loved it as it fit our very picky criteria. The beach is nice and most certainly satisfies with its soft sand, snorkeling areas, cleanliness, comfortable lounge chairs. You can walk on the beach for quite a while and visit all 5 Barcelo hotels that are side to side. The hotel is beautiful, VERY CLEAN, everyone is constantly cleaning, refreshing the entire place on a daily basis. The pools are the biggest we've ever seen, with massage jets, jacuzzi. There's even a place for an adult pool, no kids allowed. The hotel accommodates families very well. The kids club is great with themed events and daily activities for kids from cooking classes, beach time etc. The premises allows for your eyes to relax and experience serenity with all its beauty. The vegetation is not only stunning but maintained constantly. The service on all aspects is polite, courteous and with a smile. They are all very helpful. Massages on the beach or at the spa= amazing! The rooms are big and accommodating. The food is great, lots of variety, there's no way you won't find what you're looking for. This hotel is a 5* and you deserve to spend some time there. Hope you enjoy it as we do.

we went to the Palace in April.....and we arrived right in the middle of the grads arriving....kids and families from all over the States. It was so busy with all the families taking over all the restaurants and bars was very had to find a nice quiet spot for a dinner or a drink for a couple....

the hotel was nice....but we did prefer to stay at the Colonial...we stayed there the year before and found it way better..........

The Palace is so big and the rooms are very far away from anything....takes a long time to walk from room to restaurants pool and beach.....so if you dont like to walk very far dont be going there......

service was great..........staff was ok...........front desk people need to get more people skills.......but because they were so busy with the grads.....they could not help to many other guests.....

Wont go back to the Palace but will definetly go back to the Colonial...this November we are going to the Maya Palace in Los Cabos......

Cheers

The Barcelo is a beautiful hotel and the art work throughout is truly eye catching. We were there September 18th- 25th and the weather was wonderful. You buy fish food at the beach bar and the fish in the ocean follow you around as you feed them. We saw turtles as we snorkelled near shore..bring water shoes. All the amenities there are easily accessible and everything was very clean. The food was best at the Palace and truly worth the upgrade. There are shops throughout the hotel for souvenirs and jewellery. Weddings everywhere. I truly recommend this hotel and would book Barcelo again.

Better late than never… We stayed at the Palace May 6 – 16, 2010. We were married at the Barceló Maya Colonial in May 2009 and returned for another amazing vacation at Barceló in 2010. We did alot of research and actually were wanting to try a different resort to experience something new but we decided on the Palace because they had the best rating for the money, and we are so glad we did!
ARRIVAL IN CANCUN: Hopefully you have already made transfer arrangements. If so, ignore all the people who try to talk to you as you are exiting the airport and go outside and find the company that you have made arrangements with. The other people inside are salesman. It is a 1.5 – 2 hour drive to the resort but well worth it, it is much more secluded than Cancun resorts.
RESORT: The complex is split up into 3 areas; Beach/Caribe, Colonial/Tropical & Palace. The Beach/Caribe is the least expensive and the Palace is the most expensive. When you stay at one of the higher end resorts you can go to any of the resorts below you so at the Palace you have access to the entire complex. Yes, it is very large and will require a lot of walking if you CHOOSE to. If you don’t feel like walking around then just stay on the Palace end, they have everything you need there. If you want to explore a little but don’t feel like the walk they do have trolleys that come by different locations throughout the resort every 10-15 minutes.
ROOMS: The rooms in the Palace are a lot nicer than the rooms at the Colonial; they are very large and include a sitting “room”. I still have dreams about their bathrooms, I know that’s kind of weird but you’ll see what I mean when you go. The shower head is as big as a dinner plate and I’m not exaggerating. Our room was quite far from the front of the resort but we didn’t mind the walk (#8359). The sliding door to the patio would not lock when we first arrived but after a call to the front desk it was quickly fixed.
FOOD: There are 3 a la’ carte restaurants at the Palace but you can also go to any of the restaurants at the other areas. You are still required to make reservations but you can make reservations every night of your stay. As mentioned in other reviews, be sure to do this right after you check-in. The Rodizio was our favorite on the Palace side, followed by the Tepanyaki on the Colonial side. For breakfast and lunch you can go to the buffet which offers a large selection of options or you can have many things made for you on demand, including a steak; you can also check out the grills on the beach for a quick afternoon snack. We typically enjoyed a freshly made cappuccino with baileys and some fresh fruit in the lounge for breakfast and a small snack at the grill for lunch, saving our appetite for a big dinner but there are a ton of options.
POOLS/WATER: The pools are HUGE and absolutely beautiful, but the ocean is even more amazing. As mentioned in prior reviews, the Palace end is a little rocky but the rocks provide some great snorkeling scenery and there seems to be more fish, turtles, and even sting/manta rays to see. Just wear some water shoes/socks and you’ll be fine. There are also thousands of fish hanging out under the dock if you have kids who would like to just look or feed the fish. If you have the money and the guts I highly recommend the scuba diving, you’ll feel like you’re on another planet! The colors are amazing and there are so many cool fish and coral to look at. The dive instructors are great and will make sure everyone has a safe adventure - you can tell they really love their job.
BARS/NIGHTLIFE: The lounge was our favorite for a nice morning café. The swim-up and pool bars are great during the day. At night the lounge has a pianist or some sort of light entertainment. The Palace has an air-conditioned theatre with live performances every night as well so be sure to see what’s on the schedule. If you’re looking for a party there is the Jaguar Disco near the Colonial Complex. The city of Playa Del Carmen is only a 20 minute cab ride away and a few from our group went into town one night and had a great time bar hopping so that is another option.
TIPS: Bring an insulated mug for your beverages. These mugs are not just for the loud and rowdy, they are actually quite practical. You will spend less time going back to the bar for another drink because they hold more and your drink will stay ice cold for hours while you relax on the beach. Also, if you prefer a softer bed there is a pillow top between the box spring and mattress; we prefer a firm bed so we did not use this but I’ve seen a few complaints on here about the firmness of the mattresses. My last tip is to TIP! You’re staying here for a steal and you know they can’t be paying their staff much at the rates their charging for this amazing resort so throw a few bucks to those who are making sure you have a wonderful vacation, they deserve it.
MINOR DOWNSIDE: The Colonial/Tropical is right in the middle of everything; the shops and disco are right there and the pier is closer if you stay at the Colonial section. But the walk is not bad if you’re up to it or the trolleys will drop you off near any attraction so it’s really not a big deal.
The only reason we didn’t go this year is because we just had a baby in April, otherwise we would have continued our new tradition. Barceló is truly a little piece of paradise at a great price. ENJOY!

The Barcelo Maya Palace was gorgeous! From the moment our airport shuttle pulled up I knew we were in for a treat! The grounds are beautiful, and the rooms were big and newer. I can't even begin about the pool!! It is huge and out of this world! I loved that it was all inclusive, with top shelf liquor. With the Maya Palace you also have access to the other Barcelo resorts on the premises. The staff was great and very helpful, and it was nice that everyone spoke enough english for my husband and I to get by (we don't know a whole lot of spanish). We went end of May and the weather was perfect, and it wasn't too crowded. They're were weddings set up all along the beach, just a really romantic getaway! If there was one thing that I didn't like, it was that they were having work done to 7 restaurants in the Barcelo complex, so we were limited to where we could go to for dinner. Otherwise, it was a perfect getaway, and I can't wait to plan again for next year!!!

Room Tip: Try to get a room closer to the pool. The complex is so huge it is a lot of walking!

The Barcelo Maya Palace is a beautiful place. We have stayed at several all-inclusives in the Riviera Maya and this was one of our favorites. The pools were wonderful, rooms were beautiful and the whole resort is kept spotless. One minor complaint was that when we checked out we were charged $5 for one of our key cards that broke in half. Since the card looked rather old and battered (obviously had been used over and over) when they gave it to us I don't think we should be held responsible for a cheap plastic card breaking in my husband's pocket. Rather petty i'd say.
