My wife and spent a week at Dreams PA during the first week of February 2009. We booked with Apple Vacations on their 6 apple Dreams square deal.
The bus ride was a bit long, there is road construction and lots of speed bumps. The bus was comfortable.
Check in was easy. We had to wait 2 hours for our room so we had lunch at the Sea Side restaurant. I ordered the crab wontons and reef grouper. Both were excellent.
We were put in room 158 which we loved. It was an easy walk to the bar, about 40 steps. Great king size bed, excellent two person bath room, cable TV, mini frig. The hair drier would conk out if you used it on high for to long. The room safe was free and easy but not big enough to hold a laptop. I didn’t bring a computer. The room needs more light, over the bed for reading would be nice.
The frig was stocked with 2 Corona’s, 2 Coke Light’s, 2 Real Coke’s, 1 Fanta Orange, 4 waters, and some juice. I popped open a Corona first thing. I usually drink water, We have great water in Wisconsin, so I was planning to drink bottled water most of the time. On the second day I opened the frig to pull a beer and the Coke caught my eye. I hadn’t had a coke in years so that would be one of my vacation treats. That bottle of Coke tasted great. Coke never tasted so good, much better than US coke. I drank the bottled Coke for the rest of the vacation.
The resort is in a gated community. Very safe and close to lots of shops and condos. We were never approached by time share people during our stay at Dreams. Dolphin Discovery is a short walk away. We had great fun watching the dolphins, manatees, and sea lions.
Things to do
I went out in a Hobbe Cat sail boat each day. Great fun when the wind is up.
The wife and I went on bike rides. There are lots of homes and condos in the marina area. The golf course had a few people on it. The skate boarding park was empty. New time share construction is underway. There are a few places that were trashed; I assume it is unfixed hurricane damage.
I used the open style plastic kayaks every day I could. There is a nice area just south of the resort you can paddle to if the waves are up. I enjoyed riding the waves coming in.
I brought my own snorkeling equipment and was in the water for many hours. My 56 year old feet found it difficult to get in and out of the water because of the rocks. I have been snorkeling in Jamaica, Cozumel, and the Dominican Republic. The snorkeling in the reef area across from the Catlenia resort, which is just to the south, is good, with some corral and lots of fish.
My beach walks were short. The beach is small. I walked over to the Catlenia resort on the same beach as Dreams. The Catlenia has more European guests and is larger than Dreams. Checkout the European swimwear. There is a second beach that you can get to by walking through the off resort shop area. Explore a bit and you will find it.
I didn’t take the Spanish or towel art classes. The maids made nice towel art things on 3 of our days.
My wife did the Euro Bungee and said it was great fun.
The staff provided lots of daily activities water fitness, pool or beach volleyball….. There were also nightly movies with lots of kids in attendance.
I didn’t try a Spa treatment.
The workout room is next to the Spa. My wife likes to run on a tread mill every day. She complained that the workout room was to hot and needed a fan. She would also like to see them install a TV or three.
I saved the best for last. We went to all of the restaurants and found them to be very good. I did not try the burgers, why eat burger when you can eat steak. Most of the time I went for fish. This is the best AI food I have had. They had a Super bowl party for us on the beach.
* The music in the adult pool area is too loud.
* I was unable to get the DVD player to work. Some instructions would have been nice.
Dreams PA is a great resort for everyone and is kid friendly. I hope to go back someday soon.
