“Small-scale resort that delivered in a big way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

My family and I spent a great week at this property in February. It didn't disappoint. Things that made us happy: easy access to the beach and pool, enjoyable restaurants, fun on-site activities, lovely view from our 5th-floor balcony, a great swimming beach with small schools of fish to check out, dolphins on site and the ability to walk right into Puerto Aventuras for a change of scene. Excursions to Chichen Itza, Tulum, ATV riding, etc. were easy to book. And, a drawback: the small size of the room suprised us. We were a family of three and once the fold-away cot was set up, there was no room to walk. We had the staff remove the couch and it was much better. Also, our door wouldn't shut because the locking mechanism was broken. It took a couple of calls, but it got fixed. The a/c was a non-starter for an allergy sufferer (mold) like me, but this is always an issue given the climate. Overall, the positives FAR outweighed the negatives. If you're looking for a smaller, intimate all-inclusive, this is an excellent choice, especially with small kids. It met our needs and more.

Room Tip: Ocean views from the higher floors were lovely. Rooms aren't big, especially after a cot is adde...

After a 10hr flight from the U.K.it was must welcome to receive a cold drink and wet towel when we arrived at the hotel.Reception was very efficient with the booking in.I was given room 219 which is a fair size room especially for one person. The room was very clean had a four poster bed which was comfortable also a free mini bar consisting bottles of soft drinks and beer ( no spirits )the bottle opener for the bottles is situated in the bathroom,a fair size t.v. also a safe big enough to take a I Pap plus more items. The balcony over looked the dolphin pool and the adult swimming pool, not much of a view due to the foliage. The bathroom was also really clean and a fair size with a walk in shower, plenty of towels. One point to note for U.K.visitors is that the main electrics is a 110v a/c and you require 2 flat pin connector for the sockets.
The complex is rather small but kept very clean,as is the swimming pools 1 adult and 1 family,t are checked and cleaned morning and at night also the beach area is cleaned of any rubbish or seaweed coming in on the tide
There are five restaurants to choose from also one beach side barefoot grill,of the restaurants my favorites were Seaside grill,Oceana and Portofino where there is a dress code applies, all the restaurants are very clean and the food very good ,no problem if you are single they will always find you table to have your meal
There are four bars plus a Sushi bar,all very good, all the bar staff are polite and are excellent at making up cocktails,my favourite was the Barracuda bar which is next to the sea with a natural salt water pool a few feet away where you can see all sorts of fish. The only down side is that they do not serve cider.
Every night you are given a leaflet with information regarding next days entertainment, which takes place on the beach or the theatre all very good
There is amount of noise on the complex due to children and in some cases adults but it didn't really affect me any rate they are on holiday
If you want to you can pay to swim with the dolphins also book excursions from the hotel,
The only moan i had was that room 219 is near a 24hr reception and at times was woken in the early hours of the morning. Well done to all the staff for keeping the complex so clean also a mention to the CoCO cafe where they make excellent coffee

Following our flight to Cancun, we arrived at the hotel and were met with wet towels and cold drinks which were very welcome.
Booking in was simple our room was ready and very clean. A spacious bathroom and shower and two very comfortable beds.

The outside areas are very well kept and regularly washed and swept down this includes the beach areas even to the sea weed being collected before it got to the beach. The pools were cleaned several times a day and chlorine levels checked frequently.
The staff were superb everyone was polite and helpful, the waiters and service first class. Our room was serviced every day with clean towels and sheets, this could not be faulted.

The food was plentiful and varied with different themes every day, the Italian and Mexican restaurants a joy to use. The Ocean Bar lovely in an evening. There were some hygiene issues in the World restaurant which we took up with the management as several guests including ourselves had stomach problems. These were hot food left out too long on hot plates which were at about 20 C much too cold ( I could hold my hand on them).
Further we had hairs and once an elastic band in food.
Cleaning of table mats didn't happen the tables were cleaned then the mats just replaced even if they were soiled.
After enquiring about hand gel we were shown one small bottle hidden behind the desk with a minute notice, no other reference and nobody used it as they didn't know it existed.

Our room suffered very badly with damp, clothes were damp, beds damp, couch so damp that sitting on it left us with a wet bottom. I had a wet t-shirt which I left outside to dry, it nearly did , so I brought it in at night and hung it up on the wardrobe by the morning it was wet again. Before leaving for home we noticed some of our clothes and even shoes were now showing mould growth.
This was either the air condition splaying out fine droplets of water or the high humidity not being cleared by the AC. This is a worry and has health issues.
The room electric light was nowhere near good enough it would not have been possible to read after dark.

There was several beach BBQs which were set out at great effort by the staff and supplied with music and dancing by various acts. There is a nice theatre with ample seating and some excellent acts, in particular the acrodance act.

The beach is lovely with soft white sand and the sea safe even for very young children, but not very good for snorkerling from that beach as too shallow.
The visits to Coba and Talum are well worth seeing.

Room Tip: Leave the air con. on all the time to try and dry the room.

We just came back from Dreams in Puerto Aventuras. We stayed from 6/14-6/24. We have three children, ages 10, 9 and 5. First impression on arrival was not great. The resort seems average. We started off in a Family Garden Suite in room 149, which was very nice, but after one night, we needed to upgrade to another room because we had zero privacy and were staying for 10 nights. The only other room that could handle 5 people & had a private bedroom was the master bedroom suite located on the 7th floor. We paid $1200 extra but WHAT A VIEW!!! It was room 724, corner room with panoramic ocean views! AC in both rooms worked extremely well, as a matter of fact that's the only place the AC worked well at all. The resort is only 7 floors and is small compared to other resorts but we always felt so safe with the kids. We could leave the kids in the pool and sit at the beach and never feared for their safety. It is a 30 second walk from the pool to the beach! Beach is great for snorkeling so bring your own gear if you have it. The have a marina with dolphins and you can pay extra to swim with them, we didn't because kids were scared but watched a few people doing it and it looked really cool. We also went on a catamaran excursion to Tulum to see the Mayan ruins....great experience but not for families with children. LOL it was soooo hot in Tulum, my 5 year old started to lecture me saying "what kind of a mom brings their children to a place like this on this hot of a day!" The food is average at best and less than average most of the time. I know this is a downer but it's the truth. We went there expecting to eat lots of authentic Mexican food like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. Nada. They do have a restaurant called El Patio but we did not like the food. Others did. The best food we had there which I can rate as 4 stars is Portofino...this is the Italian restaurant and the only restaurant that has a dress code. You have to have nice clothes on to get it, men must have closed shoes and collared shirts...you can't go in with your bathing suit and cover up. If I could do it all over again, I would have gone to Portofino every night for dinner. Oceana restaurant was also not good. Again, this is my family's opinion. The staff is what makes this resort. They are so hardworking and so friendly. Rooms were always clean, grounds were always being cleaned. This is not a 5 star, brand new resort. Apple Vacations has this rated as 6 golden apples! No where near that rating...4 red apples at best. Resort shows wear and even though the food was not very good, we had a great time and would return. There is the barefoot grill right by the pool and outside the World Cafe (buffet) that grilled good hamburgers & turkey hotdogs. Ok last but not least, the alcohol is good. Not watered down like other all-inclusives. When we "upgraded" to 7th floor we were told there is a private lounge and you have your own concierge, etc. There is a "lounge" but it is an open air lounge and it is always HOT & HUMID. They do have premium liquor available on the 7th floor as part of the upgrade but we rarely drank any of it because we were only in our room in the evenings. Concierge was never at their desk on 7th floor, used same concierge as all other guests most of the time, which was great! Oh and there is Free Wi-fi throughout the resort, it even works when you're on the beach! All in all it was a good vacation and I lost some weight ;) no complaining here! I almost forgot - there is an adults only pool next to oceana & marina with a swim up bar, there is also a swim up bar in the family pool. The pool water is extremelyyyyy warm, not refreshing at all. Kids didn't seem to mind but I couldn't stand it. You should also check out the natural sea salt pool next to the barracuda bar but be careful stepping in, it is slippery.

Room Tip: 7th floor master bedroom suite has a large corner balcony with a jacuzzi and panoramic ocean views...

We just returned from a family vacation to Dreams. We were very impressed with everything. We have stayed at larger resorts in the past but really preferred this smaller one. Everything was very convienent and close. The staff could not have been more friendly or hard working. The rooms were very nice and always clean. There really isn't a bad view. The backside of the hotel overlooks the adult pool and marina which was very nice too. The food was great at the restaurants as well as at the buffet. We also really enjoyed dinner on the beach they had a couple of the nights during our stay. The kids enjoyed many of the activities planned for them throughout the week, especially the movie night on the beach. We used that time to go to the Oceana restaurant which is for adults only. The kids also enjoyed the many free beach activities. The whole family also enjoyed the nightly entertainment. Other resorts have had the same types of shows each night. We liked the variety of entertainment that was offered here. We had a great family vacation and would love to return!

My mother brought me to the resort for my birthday. What a gift! This is a small but beautiful resort. The ambience, decor, food and service was amazing!
From the moment we got out of the taxi we were welcomed with smiles and assistance. Armando was our concierge and very helpful. The grounds are well kept and that's saying a lot because honestly people on vacation can sometimes take that idea to another level, what I mean by that is just because you are on vacation doesn't mean that common courtesy should be thrown out the window. I saw some reviews on here talking about trash and such, that is not because of the resort or the staff, that is because of the guests! Everyone that works there works so hard and with such pride and with a smile on their face!
All of the restaurants were fantastic! there were quite a few beach dinners and lunches that were just incredible! Fresh from the sea! I watched as the fish came off the catamaran! there are endless things to do throughout the day and night. There are nightly shows that were very entertaining, my favorite of the week was a break dancing group, but everyone was great! The acrobats, fire dancers etc. The entertainment crew works hard to find these acts and even harder to make their guests aware of the events scheduled, you also get a newsletter everyday and it's also posted in the elevators and by the pool.
The housekeeping staff is incredible, everyday they cleaned and then turned downed our beds at night, and left amazing towel art on our beds, when you go you will see what I'm talking about!
The staff do everything they can to make you feel special, upon arrival, because my mom made arrangements there was a birthday sign on my door, gallons and a hand written card! and once we became members there was champagne and strawberries waiting in our room as a sign of appreciation. Me, my family and friends will be enjoying this club for years to come!
There were quite a few children there, so i will definitely try an all adult resort as well, but even with the kids, there was the adult side that you could escape to and honestly i was wasn't bothered by them, even though the resort is small it is an escape all it's own!
and finally the staff. Again everyone was incredible, but i have to call off a few names that had a part in my wonderful time here, in order of meeting; Armondo, concierge, Victor and Oskar( from Tulum), they helped us understand the membership and helped us to get a great deal, they were patient and full of knowledge, Jessica and Cesar from (desires) great service and highly entertaining, Hugo, (bartender and waiter) wish we would have met him sooner! and Mersedes from the spa, she gave me an amazing massage, top 3 massages in my book! But again EVERYONE was great! I'm in the hospitality service industry which can be trying at times, and i will be closing my eyes and seeing their smiling faces to help remind me of my responsibilities in such a profession.
Thank you Dreams for making our vacation so incredible!
Tara

I just returned home from this fantastic resort. This was a celebration for my daughters 35th bday! We both enjoyed our stay here. From the swim up bars to to the resturants not to mention the beautiful accomodations. I do have to say what truly sets this resort apart from the others is the staff. We will miss them! From all the dinners on the beach to the nightly shows we were very pleased with this resort! This is a family resort so if kids are not ur thing then this is not the place to go. The beach the pools the food the drinks Wow! Can't say enough. We will go back! We met many wonderful people there too! Give this a try! Sandie Lewis

Room Tip: Oceanview was beautiful but I think any room would b fine
