“Great trip!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014 via mobile

Great staff in all areas of resort, pool, bar, restaurant, entertainment.
Our favorite restaurant was the Potifino/Italian. The steaks were amazing! We also loved the sushi restaurant, they had the best fried calimari ever! We ate lunch at the seaside grill and loved all of our choices there! The CoCo cafe had great frozen coffee drinks, they change "snacks" throughout the day, mini sandwiches, hot pretzels, nice afternoon pick me up!! A must have is the coconut ice cream, they only have it at certain places! I kinda begged out waiter at Sushi restaurant on our last night, if there was anyway he could find out which restaurant had it that night! 5 min later he came back with it in paper coffee cups, not sure where he got it, but it made our last meal perfect!!!

We took naps in the hammocks, they will bring you drinks to your chairs, a few dollars goes so long way!!

We enjoyed the snorkeling, at the resort and we walked to the end of the cove, past the resorts that you can see from dreams beach and there was a great place to snorkel. There was lots to do for children and families!
Like many said the resort was smaller and not so spread out like many all inclusives can be! We don't have small children, but this resort is great for families with smaller children, crafts, contests, sports, movies!

We used room service twice, turn down service was nice, house keeping was great!! Rooms were spacious, The toilet and shower were separate from sink and mirror . We had ocean view, from the bed we could lay and see the ocean, we did not pay extra, rm 232, we saw a few other rooms and realized how lucky we got!!

Overall we were very happy and felt safe and taken care of!!!

Yes, it could use a little updating, according to Apple rating, it was not the 6 golden Apple they have it listed at but more like 5!
The remote did not work from the bed, minor but weird, took us a call to front desk to realize it was not the batteries! No dressers, luggage racks and some shelving. no food until 7am, we are early risers, we survived !!
We don't mind children so we stayed on that
pool/beach side for most of the day, the adult pool is on complete other side, very quite, too quite for me, but some really like that! We like people watching, there is no beach to take walks on, no one really walking by or place for you to walk to on the beach.
Many took walks into marina area, we did this one afternoon, was nice but very hot later in the day , for exercise walks it would be nice in the morning. I used the work out room, small and it was busy!!

Dreams has just about everything you need for a good holiday and is ideal for families. The staff are absolutely excellent and extremely polite; although I did have one issue that merits comment. On arrival we found our American style did not always flush completely. We informed reception early morning and they said it would be fixed. As it had not been sorted by the end of the day I mentioned it again to reception that evening. This time the receptionist said we should not be putting toilet paper down the toilet bowl !! I was very surprised as I have never encountered this before in other Mexican hotels. Anyway, he said it would be fixed. By the end of the following day it had still not been dealt with so I asked to speak to a manager. I was lead to a concierge, (Ingrid) who apologised that it had not being fixed and assured me she would take personal responsibility. But she also said paper should not be put in the bowl. This time I queried it with her saying that there were no signs to this effect in the bathroom, so how were guests supposed to know? She said she would speak to management about signs and also stated that the bin in the bathroom was for toilet paper. I could not believe this at it was an open bin, without a lid. One can only imagine how unhygienic and smelly this would be. Well, once again I found the problem had not been fixed so the following morning I spoke to Osirus, another concierge in strong terms and he came with me to see the problem. Within 2 hours the problem had been cured. We continued to put paper down the toilet for the rest of our stay and never had any problems. Perhaps the hotel management should comment here on whether it is their policy to ask guests to not put toilet paper in the bowl. And if it is policy then perhaps theyshould put up signs and provide bins with lids.

Apart from this issue our weeks stay was enjoyable. The fillet mignon in the Portofino was the best steak I've had outside of Kobe beef I had whilst in Japan. It was just melt in the mouth. The hotel is situated on a small, sandy bay and is fine for children as it does not get too deep due to broken coral further out. There is an adults-only pool for those wanting some quiet. The rooms are well appointed and we had a great view overlooking the adults pool and dolphin encounter area. As stated already, the best thing about this hotel is the friendliness of the staff.

Finding somewhere for a pre-dinner drink was a problem. They have an inside bar which is in desperate needed of a make-over and has TV's blaring out loud music. But, being in a warm country I'd like to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail. But there is just nowhere to go. Both pools have swim up bars, (no good in the evening). One has a few bar stools. The Barracuda bar has a few more, plus some swings and chairs. However these are unsuitable as the cushions are invariably wet from use by swimmers during the day. None of the restaurants have bar areas either. Occasionally there were some chairs near the Oceana restaurant, but only if left over from a function during the day.

On the whole, not a bad place but not the best. I guess you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: We were in room 265. A quiet room overlooking the dolphinarium and adults only area. Although close...

We got tired of the endless snow, so we contacted Darlene fisher at faredeals.com and asked for a getaway. She immediately hooked us up with a 6 apple getaway and then had to rebook due to another snow storm closing the airport--great customer service. We met the Apple agent at the Cancun airport who told us we would be staying at Dreams in PA---the apple deal did not specify where we would be staying. The ride to the resort took better than an hour. but the thoughtful driver had plenty of Coronas in his cooler. This is an older resort,, but was very clean. Check in was a breeze as was check out. One side of the resort was for families and kids and the other side was for adults. That's a great idea. The beach was kid oriented so we used the adult pool and bar alot. The entire staff--everyone we encountered was polite, friendly and willing to help. The room was very good--walk in shower, great matress on the bed, wyfi, tv, everything you could want. Every meal we had was good. Fish at the Oceana, steak at the steak house, and a good variety at the buffet. Food was as good or a bit better than many other resorts. They served Coronas and bud lite here!!!! Entertainment was good--live professional music, piano player and of course the entertainment team. Highlight of the trip was swimming with the dolphins and manatees they train on site. This is a smaller attraction than the big show further down town, but it gave us a personal touch with these unique and friendly critters. The trainers, photographers, lifeguard--all total pros. The resort was clean and we would certainly go there again. Salute to the GM of this resort for attaining a high level of excellence.

Room Tip: ask for adult or family side for convenience

This was a terrible experience. It was over an hour to get to the resort from the airport. When we got there the rooms we reserved were not available in a king size bed even though we were guaranteed a king size bed. Then after they finally did find us a king size room when we walked in to our room other guests clothes and things were all over the room so it was obviously occupied. During check in the only thing they would tell us is that they were 99% booked to capacity and we should have known they couldn't get us the rooms we asked for. One couple in our group finally said ok to two double beds and they told them their room wouldn't be ready for at least another 45 mins even though it was past 4pm.
The restaurants were nothing special at all. The sushi place had a very limited menu and when we went to both the Italian restaurant and the Seafood restaurant, we were told it would be an hour wait. When we pointed out open tables we were told we had to purchase a minimum of $100 bottle of wine to have those tables, at an 'All-Inclusive" resort. I have had better meals at Applebees, and I hate Applebees.
The so called "Top Shelf" liquor was not even close. The best they had was Jack Daniels or Jose Cuervo. We asked for a good tequila and were told El Jimador was the best they had. At the duty free it was $13 a bottle!
The pool areas were very difficult to get service at and were very dirty and not well maintained. We asked to speak with managers several times and nobody could seem to find one, contrary to the post about one being available at all times.
Our room was not very up to date. The hand held shower head was rusted and looked terrible.
There are many more things I could go on and on about this place. Bottom line is if you are looking for a truly quality top of the line resort this is not your resort. The service was terrible and all they give you is the same answers, that it's not their fault, they're over booked and everyone has different tastes! This place takes zero accountability and all they care about is taking your money and then getting more from you while you are there! I wouldn't come back to this place if it was FREE!! There were three couples that all stayed here with us and all had the same terrible experience that they will be sharing as well!

Dear Thomas S,

First and foremost, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with the TripAdvisor community regarding your recent stay with us at Dreams Puerto Aventuras.

As explained to you during your stay here with us by our Front Desk Manager as well as in the correspondence received post departure, unfortunately we cannot be held responsible for any misinformation regarding the room reserved provided at the time of booking your vacation. All of our Deluxe rooms are furnished with either two double beds or one king size bed and bedding requests are subject to availability. It is for this reason that the room bedding cannot be guaranteed prior to arrival. When a specific type of bedding is required we recommend either of our two other categories be chosen as our Family Rooms guarantees double beds and our Honeymoon category guarantees king size bedding.

WIthin our main lobby, we have photos of our entire executive team with their telephone extensions clearly marked, including that of our General Manager. They are available throughout the day for anything our guests made need. This information is also provided within the daily Sundial newsletter. We are sorry if this information was not made clear to you.

We apologize that you felt let down by the culinary options available throughout our resort. At none of our restaurants is it obligatory to purchase additional wine and/or alcohol in order to receive a table.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and we are sorry that we were not able to exceed your expectations during your time here with us.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Tunstall

We are a young couple and had concerns about staying at such a small family resort. We found that all of our concerns were alleviated rather quickly. The resort was fun and private (adult side) and we found the food and drink to be fantastic. The staff was friendly and the grounds were very clean. We would recommend water shoes if you are big surf swimmers. Otherwise enjoy, this resort is great!

Room Tip: 428 was great

We took our children and gradchildren with us to Dreams P.A. to help us celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time and there was something for everyone. The grandchildren (ages 7 and 10) LOVED the Explorers Club. The staff does an absolutely fantastic job with the children offering a great variety of activities. They're the best!! The food was good to excellent, but we were disappointed with the Oceana's food this time. But there are enough choices that we had a lot of others to choose from. We especially loved the lunches served on the beach and the fresh fruit on a stick served at pool side. The entire staff was friendly and efficient. We wouldn't make any changes to anything. Even the front desk people when above and beyond. Our only disappointment was we hired one of their photographers and were VERY disappointed with the photos. There was a wedding going on so I'm sure we didn't have the top photographer. It was to be a memory of our family for our anniversary, but we were very disappointed. We brought our family to Dreams PA four years ago and the photos were WONDERFUL so, not only were this year's poor but also they were much more expensive. Other than that, our stay was great and we would definitely recommend this resort to others.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 7th floor which is a little pricier, but we had a beautiful view of the ocean.
