“Really Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2011

This hotel is a 3 Star hotel with 5 Star service for the most part.
I recently went to this Resort for nine days. We were welcomed with cold towels which was great. The front desk was fast and courteous. The only thing I didn't appreciate at check in is that I had a surprise Bday cake arranged for my boyfriend and the front desk asked for a credit card for payment right in front of him knowing it was a secret. It could have been handled more discreetly but I can't blame the staff. She was just following her protocol for things but I think it could have been done at a later time and not when the person being surprised is present.

Our room was very nice. Great bed and a double sink bathroom. We were upgraded to a better room upon our arrival. We did not have to wait for a room either.

The food was really good. The only restaurant that needs help is the sushi bar. That is not sushi. They used lox for Salmon rolls.

All the other restaurants were really good especially the Seaside Grill. Fresh Fish every single day.

The entertainment was hit or miss. Great fire show, boring Carribean Show.

I feel like this resort is more catered for children. THERE WERE A LOT OF CHILDREN. If you don't like being around kids, DO NOT COME HERE. If it was an Adults only resort I think I would have loved it. The pool was nice when the kids were not there, same can be said for the beach.

Special mention to great staff there:
Jorge and Rogelio (managers at the restaurants)
Armando, Guadalupe, Juan, Karlos, Sustero, (wait staff and bartenders)
Victor, Ingrid, Ileana (Entertainment Staff)

Juan went above and beyond to make sure we had hot coffee and that all our seating arrangement needs were met every single day! Thank you Juan. Best of all out of all the people staying there he remembered exactly how we like our coffee!

The best staff there was Yolanda, our house cleaning service employee. She cleaned the room from top to bottom every single day and in the evenings she would come by and drop off extra towels for us, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

The service there is impeccable and I really think that is what they strive for the most. Yeah the place is a little dated but its to be expected. Nothing stays new forever. If you want to be treated well and have children I think you would enjoy this resort.

Our family has been going to Puerto Aventuras for over 10 years. We usually stay in a condo, but this year we stayed at the Dreams and I am glad we did. I love the condo we usually rent, but the view from our fifth floor hotel suite was perfect! If you have never been to the Cancun, Mexico area I highly recommend you head this way instead. Puerto Avenuras is centrally located. Near the Playa Del Carmen area and stone throw from Tulum and all of its secluded beaches.

Hello,
First of all, I am in the hotel industry and I have traveled all over. I am writing this review not to rent or rave but to inform fellow travelers. I have no financial interest in this property or Tripadvisor, so i will be very fair.

I stayed here on August 2011 and just like any other, this hotel has the good, the bad and the ugly. But, to its fairness, it is mostly good and I would recommend this hotel to a friend. Families or couples would be fine, singles, very low chances of meeting someone here...

The rooms: Fairly large, well maintained, small work desk but nice mattresses. bathrooms are nice and clean and well maintained. Lighting is poor if you want to read in bed so bring a flashlight if you are a reader. All rooms have balconies that face either the marina or the sea and they are nice and open. Floors are marble tiled - no carpets. The ac is powerful enough to cool the room even in August heat, but the A/C does not have a dehumidfy function so room and the clothes feeling a bit damp. But, I assure you it is not a big deal. They just feel a bit damp. I have allergies and asthma but it did not bother me one bit.

Public areas: Great! Pools, lobby, Gym, La tienda, all good. Two separate pools- one is adults only, but seriously, how can you skip all the kids' laughters and jump to the other side??? The pool in the ocean side - family pool- has many broken tiles at the bottom. this seems to be a chronic problem, and the management needs to address it sooner rather than later. I would say it is safe for the most part but if you are playing volleyball in the pool or something, you may cut your foot as a result of your vigorous activity. Clean pools, clean public spaces.

Entertainment: I would rate this 5 stars. The hotel has nice entertainment in a non-invasive manner. All entertainment was top notch and interesting. Make sure to attend the theater every night it has a show, it is worth it1

Food: Even though the hotel tries hard, the food continues to be mediocre. it has several restaurants and bars and it has a no reservation system. so, if you go to a restaurant and they do not have a table for you, they list your name and give you a very accurate wait time and they seat you when you return.

Best restaurant was El Patio Mexican. Both decor and food was excellent. Service is great in all restaurants. El Patio had a duck wrap and great soups, as well as killer desserts. Order all three desserts and you will eat them all, I assure you. ---Portofino Italian seems nice and has excellent service with a supplemental wine list however the food was just okay even though the presentation was excellent. The mussels tasted like they were never rinsed of their salt water, the risotto side was cold, and the tiramisu tasted like nescafe... what a shame in such amazing setting....--- the world restaurant, the only buffet here had nice choices but mexican foods are the safest bets. skip the dessert table since it is not worth wasting your calories.Red meats are dreadful everywhere but especially here. BUT, this is the venue for breakfast which is a nice variety of foods and it has two hot stations with omelettes etc. Good breakfast.-- Seaside grill is busy and slow but nice. The kings of the menu are spring rolls with cabbage, grilled fish and cesar salad if you are a cs fan. do not order pizza, i repeat do not order pizza... and do not order pizzas here . not good. don't.---- Sushi bar has cream cheese in the rolls, as an apparent fusion touch. not bad, not great, but the setting is very nice and feels like a separate place from the hotel, so go for it once and consider it appetizer.-- the hotel has a room service service which is nice, but it is slow. the order takers speak good english which is a plus.--- oceana adults only is on the marina side, quiet, great service and medium to good seafood. forget the desserts...

The staff is friendly and helpful. they listen and try. Thanks for that to all the staff.

Housekeeping department is excellent with two services a day- cleaning and turndown in pm. they also check on you at 6 pm, which is "beach return" time, and distribute extra towels shampoo etc when you need them most. Nice touch.

The beach is small but excellent, with plenty of lounges, towel stations, waiter service and cabanas with king beds just to watch the ocean. there also is a natural rock pool they carved into the rocks in the ocean which small kids can snorkel and see the fish- many of them. very nice...

All bars are great, the ones by the beach are more adult oriented and they are staffed great. all good for hydration purposes...

hotel is small, especially great if you hate the beach shuttle thing. it's all there. lobby, pool ,beach , boom... Great snorkeling before you are knee deep. the hotel has a great dive shop and it has the lowest prices i have seen in a very, very long time. great crew...

free snorkels, kayaks etc. they won't let you sail alone so try to book it before noon to sail with your significant other (and the very nice dude who is driving :)

kids club had positive feedback from our friends, but we did not use it. it looked good and safe and fun but my kiddo was playing volleyball in the pool all day...cool kid, huh?

Nightlife: great karaoke parties, fire and water shows on the beach almost every night. beach movie every night !!!!

internet signal is weak above 5th fl rooms, laptops ok, but iphones go in and out of network. lobby areas have good signal.

the bad: if you have a room near the elevators, and go to bed early, you tend to hear the people returning to their rooms if they are loud. we had a group of people on our floor that partied and returned late and we were awakened very night so we finally had to change rooms. nice folks having fun, but not on our schedule. if you pick a room far from the elevator, you walk of course, but even the farthest is not too bad. nothing like some of the big resorts you find in mexico.

The ugly:Not just here, bull all over Mexico, the hotels are trying to sign you up for timeshares and loyalty programs. ironically, the Dreams group has great properties and a nice program, but the people who market them are working for incentive and they act very sketchy. So, a good product is ransom in the hands of an almost zealous employees. bad taste.
DO NOT bother to stop at the vip services to listen to their bs. do not talk to anyone at the airport under any circumstances. even the people who are federal employees are hunters and they are trying to sign people up under the disguise of giving info. they sound like they will provide maps etc and inform you that as a tourist you should not pay more than certain amount for tours etc, but then voila! they will pull out a secret receipt book and mention this so and so hotel company has a 25th year celebration and for 40 bucks a person, you can go on 3 tours plus food , transfers... do not believe them. just keep walking. outside, you will have your tour operator waiting for you. individuals can take buses or taxis safely.

Last but not least, Tulum is a 40 min local bus ride from here. nice, little town, archaeological sites with a tiny beach. not great but exciting considering it was inhabited when the spaniards arrived in the 1500s... maybe a half day trip. bring water and sunlotion!

thanks and if you like my review please click the helpful button above :)

This is a smaller Dreams than the one in Tulum, which makes it very nice. The food is fabulous and they have an adult only pool as well as an adult only resturant. The Explorers Club for kids is just as good as the Dreams in Tulum so with the adult only features you can enjoy time with your kids and time away from yours and everybody elses kids.

During the spring break, my two girlfriends and I stayed at Dreams Puerto Adventuras for 3 nights. We love the Dreams Resorts. They are class and elegance rolled into one. The idea of no identification bracelet and no restaurant reservations has high priority on my list of what makes a resort a winner; just knowing that you don't have to wait in line to make reservations, or exchange a card for a towel is so worth a few extra dollars. It makes one feel like a valued guest.

During our first night, we ventured to the Gohan Sushi Bar because....... we love sushi. I was not disappointed, enjoyed the sushi bar tremendously. The following nights ate at the Oceana and Portofino Restaurants, both were excellent. Loved the ambience of both, the service and food were outstanding. Drinks were great too, not at all the water-downed versions you get at most all-inclusive resorts. I saw the Amaretto was di Saronno, top shelf alcohol...luxury all the way.

As foxy matured ladies, we enjoyed the "adult pool". It was quiet and relaxing with a jacuzzi where you could unwind, drink, and enjoy adult conversation.

Our room was huge with a king size bed plus a twin and a sofa sleeper at the top of the loft. We were dazzled by the spiral staircase, feeling like special ladies, queens for three (3) nights. We had access to a safe-deposit box, mini bar with soda, beer, water, candy, and a coffee maker. The terrace had a picturesque view with a lake where we would see boys from the area fishing early in the morning.

I highly recommend this resort. You can't go wrong with Dreams Resorts!

We are a couple in our 30's and travel a lot with and without children. This particular trip was just the 2 of us, using a 6-Apple deal. Overall, we got what we wanted, a relaxing week-end without the kids, however, I would not come back to this resort.

Since we stayed for only 3 nights, it's worth pointing out that the resort is over an hour's drive from the airport. The hotel is comprised of a single building with limited grounds which is great for people that don't want to walk, but does give you a "cruise ship" feel at times, especially by the main pool. With that said, we were always able to find a quite spot, normally by the natural salt water pool at the far end of the resort.

Check in went smoothly, but we did pay to upgrade our room to the 6th floor (marina view) since the original room was directly over the Japanese restaurant and afforded no privacy at all. I also noticed that the lower level room had a really unpleasant musty odor which was absent on the 6th floor. As mentioned by others, there are salespeople that try to catch you right after checking in, however, after a firm "no" on the 1st day they did not bother us for the rest of the stay.

We did not go to the main beach due to the # of people there and therefore cannot comment on the quality of the water, although it did seem fairly nice. Most of our time we spent at the tide pool, past the beach bar. This is a fairly unique feature and it was very enjoyable to sit in calm water while waves crash over rocks just a foot away.

We thought that the service in the bars, restaurants and the buffet was excellent and I cannot think of anything that can be improved in this regard. Food was very decent for this type of resort, even in the buffet. We tried most of the restaurants and did not have any bad experiences (I would skip the shushi bar, as it was very unremarkable). The drinks were also all well made and I especially enjoyed the waiter service on the beach. The house wine in the restaurants is Spanish and we found the white to be drinkable, but not the red. When speaking to the Somalier, he did mention that the house wine changes often and varies in quality greatly.

In conclusion, there are no serious negatives, but nothing special that would draw me back here. If travelling with kids, it seemed that the main pool/beach area is overly crowded, and without kids, there are many more luxurious properties closer to the airport that I prefer.

Don't ever go here. This is not a 5 star resort like it is billed. It barely reaches 2 star level. The hotel is run down and needs to be completely gutted. Stucco falling off the building, outdoor lights dangling by wires off the walls, doors that don't fit right-we had an inch gap in our door. The service was terrible. Waited for 25 min and didn't get waited on until we complained when we ate our first lunch and they weren't even busy. The specialty restaurants were terrible-the buffet was ok. We went the the mexican restaurant and they seated guest ahead of us even though they were lined up behind us. We were the 3rd group to get sat down after they opened and they wanted to sit us in the back of the restaurant, when we asked to sit by the window so we could see the ocean they acted like we were asking for their first born child. The waiter there was extremely rude. The food was so bad we went to the buffet to eat that night after we left. Our room was terrible. They tried to put us in a room that had an elevated tub. There was only 5.5 ft of clearance from the ceiling. I'm 6' 6" and that doesn't work too well. When we asked the front desk if there were other rooms they said all the rooms are the same and they offered me a plastic chair to sit in so I could shower. I tried to call out to make reservations somewhere else only to find that their phone didn't work. When I asked the front desk for a phone to use so we could find another resort they miracously found another room for us but that one had a broken door. After the third room we finally decided to tough it out and stay. Bad decision but at least this room had a normal shower. The fridges didn't work. The TV worked about half the time.A lot of the staff was very rude. I have never been to a resort that I have felt to be this bad. Stay away at all costs. We wouldn't go back even if it was free! And now I'm not even sure if we would ever visit any Dreams resort if this is what they want to put their names on.
