When I said to Alex that we were going to swim with dolphins she got very excited, even that we both believe that animals should be free in their environment, to have the chance to touch or interact with these beautiful animals is something you have to do, and then you have your experience and criteria about this excursion. The welcome area of Dolphin Discovery in Puerto Aventuras is just amazing, a locker per family is included with the swim program, just bring your towel and take off all your jewelry, especially rings. The royal swim includes different activities and lots of interaction with the dolphins, this program is done with 2 dolphins, it is very important that women should bring a very tight bikini or swimsuit because when they are propelled through the water they can lose the bikini or not enjoy the experience because they are taking care of that. We were a group of six with a family of 3 kids, their mom and two of us. During the program we really had the chance to interact with the dolphins and we have to say that is a LIFETIME experience. After the program we were taking to another part to swim with rays and some sharks, it was scary at the beginning but the guide is all time with the group and you can feel there is nothing to be afraid of, but that completes the experience. To make this EXperience more unforgettable we decide to swim with manatees after that and let me say that swimming with manatees is a real interaction and spontaneous time. At the pool there are many manatees so we went in with two guides, one of them was feeding the big group and the other guide brought one young manatee with us for the program. We could feed him and spend some real time interacting, the big difference between swimming with dolphins and manatees is that dolphins are following orders and their natural behavior is faster, manatees are bigger slower so they don’t need to follow orders to interact with humans, with some vegetables or fruits they stayed with us and even they cuddled one of us when we were giving them food. When we finish our wicked experience we were taken to the photo area to see our pictures, they really did a good job and it is important to say that selling pictures is the most important income for the business so if you are able to buy them, do it, if not, just take the memory and feel lucky for interact with those lovely animals. Our program included a box lunch, as we were the last tour we didn’t have time to choose one of the options so we received a couple of burgers and sodas. Recommendation: swim with manatees rather than swimming with dolphins if you are looking for real and natural interaction with the animals.
