“Fifth time booked for sixth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Came here the fist time in 2008 on the advice of our travel agent. We were delighted with the advice. We came back again in 2011 and have been back every year since. We never thought we would travel to a resort more than once what with all the choices out there but Seaside Suites totally changed our mindset on that. As with any resort your going to have people that this place wasn't the perfect spot for them. In our case it was everything we told our travel agent we were looking for and more. All inclusive with higher end food and drink, adults only, smaller resort, quiet, and located away form all the other resorts but close enough if you do want to enjoy many activities. As most reviews mention the things that stand out the most are the wonderfull people that run the place, the beauty of the resort, and just how relaxing and laid back this place is. My wife and I have been married for 40 years and when we get here we feel like the clock is turned back to 1974 and were on our honeymoon.
We stayed for 2 weeks this year ( gets longer every year ) march 13-26 and already counting the days till next year.

Very relaxing, beautiful beach, warm sea, jungle surroundings.
All bars and beach butler service first class.

Restaurants are all gourmet inclusive and can be a little confusing. Especially the "pub". The shepherds pie, for example, is about 3" in diameter! Menus are challenging. In the Italian restaurant we ordered lasagne as a starter - fine. Another day we ordered lasagne as a main course and got the same size portion as the starter. You are warned - for a main course order "double lasagne"!

Also, although all inclusive some restaurants present a "additional cost" wine list which is quite pricey.

Rooms: spacious with best bed and pillows ever. Ours was a bit smelly to start (mainly due to humidity we think) but housekeeping were helpful with refreshing the room and eventually we stayed there instead of moving. Solution was to keep the a/c switched on.

Overall all staff helpful and polite, whether tipped or not, although tipping is optional the wages are low and the service is high!

Note: unless you are in the premium block and have a butler to reserve your sunbed, then it's an early start to set up camp on the beach or by the pool. That said, there are plenty of sun beds but not all have shade.

If there was just one buffet option in addition to the gourmet restaurants and they didn't close a restaurant just because the staff were needed elsewhere for a wedding, then this would be the most perfect holiday location.

Despite all of the above, we would return having a better idea of what/how to order in the restaurants.

Room Tip: Ours was block 37, above swim up rooms. Good central location.

This is our second time to EDSS Mexico. Excellent vacation for the second time around; first time was in 2008. The resort has expanded a bit adding rooms, and adding extra beach and cabana's. Our room in the new building was large and gorgeous not that we spent much time in the room other to change and sleep. Love the a la carte style restaurants (opposed to the many buffet style breakfast - lunch - dinner you get at many resorts) Always enough beach / pool chairs and cabanas no matter what time you arrived (maybe not in prime spot .. but always room) Never felt rushed at the restaurants or that you needed to move for others to get seated. Excellent meals all around .. hard to pick the best meal we had - never a bad one. Spa service was amazing our butler for the hydrotherapy (pre-massage) was the sweetest and definitely a must do if you have booked a service this comes free if you arrive early enough to enjoy. The extra's the concierge will do for you are wonderful, definitely check in with them when you arrive, get the pillow you want some ideas for dinners, and general information. Beach is not huge and can be shelly, rather than the white powder of Cuba but the food, people and resort more than make up for it. Every one from maintenance worker to entertainment staff met you with a Hola and a smile. Top notch resort (quiet, romantic, yet with enough to keep you busy if you want) Not a party till drop place .. Perfect paradise - This is our 5th time at a Karisma Resort - have not been disappointed in this chain at any resort thus far; we are definitely partial to EDSS though

Two weeks from February 22 to March8th. It was a Beautiful resort. Great food and drinks. We had a swim up room right next to one of the swim up bars and loved it! The staff was so great especially our swim up bartender UBALDO. He was the best. Always knew our drinks and made them special for us! He provided us the best service and made us feel special. With a room right next to the bar he really took care of us.

We would go back!

Room Tip: Our swim up room was right next to the swim up bar on the far end of the resort. It was perfect for...

Arrived on 22 March for 2 weeks to celebrate my birthday , we were on the Dreamliner in premium , very nice but as we were flight only having booked direct via exotic travellers I thought the price was pretty steep and was no better than previous Thomson premium has been which I have always thought was very good anyway. It did not help jet lag on return !!
On arrival we were greeted with cold glass of champagne and cold towels and taken to our room which was on the 5th floor in the new premium building . We have been here before and this was not built then , it is a very good addition in my opinion although you would not get good views on 1st 2/3 floors due to palm trees , however from 4th floor up you get gorgeous sea views .
The room was very large and very well looked after by Gabriel .
Nothing else much has changed since we were here 4 years ago , the staff are still excellent , the food quality very good and they really cannot do enough for you. As it was my birthday I was spoilt rotten , I had a chocolate birthday cake sent to my room , champagne breakfast and 18 red roses from my husband via the hotel/butler which apparently was not easy to arrange , special towel art in shape of a birthday card and well wishes from all staff including the general manager .
I must mention some of the staff personally who made our holiday and my birthday extra special ; Candido who was our personal butler , he could not do enough for us , he genuinely loves his job and loves helping people get what they want from their holiday . He is a total credit to the resort . Alva & Marisol our personal concierges , again nothing is ever a problem and they go out of their way to help & Luisa & Estella at the premium suites pool - always on hand with a smile and a drink and a laugh . We met some lovely people too - Venka & Sean and also newly weds Mitch & Kelly . Overall excellent holiday , very relaxing and made extra special by the staff and management of this beautiful resort .. and of course we will be back .

Room Tip: 4th floor or higher in premium suites

My girlfriend and I chose El Dorado Seaside as it seemed to be on the smaller side of the all inclusive range in the area, and we liked the gourmet inclusive style (being able to order food off of a menu). It was everything we were hoping it would be and more. While not all of the food was exceptional, it was all of good quality and some of it was absolutely delicious. The wine was mediocre at best but let's face it, we don't go to Mexico to drink good wine. There are nicer wines to buy, but we weren't interested in spending additional money on vino.

In terms of accommodations, we met several people who were repeat visitors to the resort. Some of them have been disappointed by the recent construction of the "premium suites" hotel like structure at the back end of the resort, which undoubtedly has made the resort lose a certain amount of the intimate nature I'm sure it once had. As we were first time visitors it was easy to see how this might be the case, and while we were in the premium suite and were very comfortable, at times we wished we were staying in one of the more quaint buildings in the midst of the palm trees and the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens. However, I believe that this resort is still very much on the smaller side of things and one can easily walk around the entire place in a matter of minutes.

The staff were superb, and did everything in their power to make sure our vacation was as enjoyable as possible. The rooms were cleaned expertly, our meals were served by charming wait staff, and the entertainment staff did a great job in creating a fun atmosphere for the evening activities if we were interested in partaking (and if not they leave you alone).

The beach isn't as good as what you might get at other resorts in the Caribbean but the beds by the sea were a perfect place to laze the day away with a book and a coco loco or two (and not as hard to procure as some claim). There were a couple of nice spots to swim in the ocean at the resort and the numerous pools were also lovely.

We had a terrific time and there wasn't much we didn't like about the place. If you are looking for a place to unwind completely, and take things very easy, you won't be disappointed. We also had massages at the spa (which were fantastic) and did a day trip to the ruins in Tulum/cenote swimming/zip-lining (Altournative's Jungle Maya tour -- which was incredible).

I'm not the kind of traveller who often returns to the same place twice, but if I was I would return to the El Dorado Seaside Suites without hesitation (tomorrow if I could!).

Room Tip: The premium rooms are in a new hotel-like building at the back of the property. They are newer and a...

We just returned last night from our vacation, where we stayed ay EDSS.

The resort is beautiful and very relaxing. We never felt rushed or that it was over crowded.

We ate breakfast at the Vida Restaurant every morning, delicious french toast and salmon bagel.

Lunch at Vida is also delicious, try the calamari Nachos. Otherwise the Sandwichere has excellent burgers and ICE CREAM!

Dinner: We made reservations at the PUB twice, the food was very good. We also enjoyed the Italian restaurant, MIA CASA. We did not try the Asian restaurant.

We had a nice moonlight dinner on the beach in a gazebo - my husband had the lobster and I had steak. It was excellent! Very romantic.

WINE: Definitely ask for the GI wine list (no extra charge) the house wine is not very good.
We really enjoyed the Pinot Noir, MERCEDES wine. Very smooth. On our last day our server at the PUB restaurant gave us a complimentary bottle and wrapped it in plastic for taking home.

Spa: We enjoyed a 60 min couples massage. Arrive at least an hour early so you can enjoy the hydrotherapy - Mud steam, Sauna, Jacuzzi (hot, cold warm)

We mostly relaxed at the main pool, had a bed along with a lounge chair. Catch some sun, then move to the bed for the not so direct sun. Pool was small but nice. Entertainment daily, but not obnoxious. We just watched, and cheered ppl on.

Walked the beach each day. Nice beach but definitely not as spectacular like the 7mile beach in Negril Jamaica.

People: We met some very nice couples, shared some laughs and stories.
LOTS of weddings while we were there as well as honeymooners....AWHH young love :)

Staff: EVERY single person we came across was extremely courteous and helpful. Personal Concierges were helpful, booked our special beach dinner and PUB reservations.

Room:

We stayed in 3114 - perfect for us. Beachfront Suite. (not a swim up) it was a nice 5 minute walk to dinner etc... and not too close to the night entertainment so it didn't bother us when we went to sleep early from the long days in sun and snorkeling Our view was lush greenery and the ocean.

Swim up suites looked nice but def not as private since the walkways are along the swim up pool rooms. Constantly ppl walking by......

Room service: Guadalupe was friendly and always efficient. Loved her towel decorations she left us each night.

TIPS:
In each concierge office there is some leftover sunscreen that people leave for others to use. Its free...... so don't spend the ridiculous price of 28.00 to 30.00 a bottle in the gift shop when you run out.

Get yout towels replaced each day before 5PM (at your concierge office) for your next days use....sometimes the towels aren't available in the mornings.....

Overall our vacation was wonderful, but never long enough. Next vacation we will try
Azul Sensatori by Karisma In Negril Jamaica ( karisma has several locations) We like Mexico but LOVE Negril Jamaica.

Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Room 3114 Beachfront Suite- Nice 5 min walk to dinners etc... far enough away from the nightly ent...
