“6th visit, Forget the Rest Stay At The Best , Pure Luxury !!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We have just returned from our 6th visit from our mayan retreat, Looking back from our first visit 4 years ago which was amazing, the hotel as just got better each time, Flew thomson premium both ways , had very good service friendly crews both ways.
Transfers this time were the quickest ever just 1hr each way. Checkin was smooth and very efficent and were soon whisked away to our lovely room in block 32. our first meal was at asian ( Klay Talay ) which was amazing thanks to Ignaccio and his team service was excellent, Tried to take the chef home bet he wasn't having it !
Our favourite place for breakfast is Vida! Hola Anna thanks for making our mornings worth getting up for. food amazing nothing too much trouble 5* all the way Thanks Fernando, Noel,
you must try the royal eggs, or chorizo scrambled eggs. plenty of fresh orange and piping hot coffee,
lunch for us was Arrecifes hosted by Nancy who was a credit to the hotel, loved to help ourselves to salad and get some meat freshly grilled, looked after by Fabiola, Margarita,Jesus, perfect to finish off with ice cream fudge,
Mia Casa was a firm favourite for many nights , lovely food the steaks were fab, all food served piping hot , a big thanks to Miguel , William, Antonio , Had some good chilled wines , they never let the glass go dry ,
The beach as improved greatly, with lots more planned , i have never been to a place where they clean and rake the beach all day long ! and always with a hola and big smile, at the moment they have a team of about 12 in the water clearing the seabed of rocks & grass and what a good job they are doing ! there was never a problem getting a sunbed even when the hotel was 100% occupancy, no need to get up early and join the towel brigade. Served drinks very often on the beach, the girls work very hard, and Roger made very good cocktails and nothing was too much trouble for him .
The Spa, we were treated like royalty as everyone is, the experience was truly 5* Had cold then hot jaccuzi then in cold tub, then in the new hydro pool, could have stayed in all day , amazing to feel the power of the water on those aching joints felt great when we got out, then led into the mud room where we covered our bodies in coconut cream and sweated it out for ten mins before showering it off, then into the ice room for ten mins, back to the changing rooms for shower , then led upstairs where we had the most amazing massage i had full body by Fernando , and other half had hot stone by Dulce, both left feeling totally revitalised, you must try a treatment , the best spa we have ever been to ,
the grounds are kept very clean and tidy with lots of seats dotted around in the shade, never allowed to walk past a gardener without a hola !
The new building ! you only notice this when in the main drive, all done very discreetly with music playing to distract from any noise, looks very good and we were lucky enough to be shown the show room , which is decorated to a very high standard , the views fro the higher floors is breathtaking ! these will prove very popular , to all those people who are worried that the hotel will lose it's intamacy , fear not the hotel are commited that this will remain and have thought of everything very carefully, with the addition of new restaurants this will be a much sort after hotel,
I am already looking at my next booking, don't hesitate and book yourself a trip to paradise. any questions please send me a personal message. Big thanks to Paula, Henrique, Janai, & Lili

Just returned from a two week stay

First off, it isn't a five star resort, it is four at best

The service and the grounds are great but the rooms, the beach, the ocean and the other guests aren't.

We upgraded to a swim up room. What a waste that was. Most swim ups are permanently in the shade and your sun beds are 5 metres from the main walk way through the resort and so embarrassingly public. Also, they only swim up to a pool bar which are pretty dull and hardly used.

The rooms are depressingly dark so reading is almost out of the question and they have a CRT TV in a massive cabinet (you remember those ones from the old days?)

There is nowhere comfortable to sit but there is a huge bath in the bedroom. The shower is ok but be very careful with the hot tap. A tiny adjustment can scold.

You can hear everything in the room above and I mean everything

The beach is split in two and on the aquatic centre side the sand is soft but sunbathers are packed in like sardines. You can take out canoes and snorkeling gear

On the other side the sand is like grit and you can't go in the ocean on this side.

The sun loungers are intergalactically crap. I nearly beat mine up on one occasion because it irritated me so much

You can go in the sea on the aquatic centre side but you are only waste deep when you get out to the reef one hundred yards off shore

There are five restaurants most of which present decent food. However they massively over-extend their capability attempting gastronomy with great presentation but very little flavour

Most people loved the food but you could tell they were the all-inclusive revenge types who judge food on quantity rather than quality. Most of the guests are middle aged and very overweight

Steak and lobster are not included in the package and you only get the tasteless house wine.

The bars serve branded drinks and generally do a very good job

The gym is very good for cardio although there are not enough treadmills and too many bikes

The weights section is the usual bizarre mix that seems to be designed by people who don't work out. Why don't they put a Smith machine in these gyms???

The pools are not great. One small free form pool with 'daily activities' or in normal speak, lot's of over enthusiastic whooping employees. And closely packed sunbeds

The lanes pool is 20 metres long and would be ok except that the shallow end is made up of a huge step making the last 5 metres less than half a metre deep. Why? This is an adults only resort. Surely they can risk a normal shallow end? Arghhhh

Room service is very good, 24 hours and included in the package

Evening entertainment is something I strive to avoid in any resort and the small exposure I had to it here didn't incline me to change my policy

You should also be aware that there is a massive building exercise under way at this resort which will shortly add a large number of extra rooms. I am glad I arrived before this work is complete and the rooms available.

You should also be aware that all organised snorkel trips require you to wear a life jacket whilst snorkeling which is beyond ridiculous

So that's it.

The place is OK but not great

Thank you for your recent of your stay at the El Dorado Seaside Suites; as General Manager , I would like you to know that I have read your review and will be sure to use your comments as valuable feedback.

It brings great disappointment that aspects of your stay fell short of expectations. The El Dorado Seaside Suites is surrounded by the local floral and fauna , creating a very intimate and romantic ambience, I'm sorry if you found that your room lacked natural light and I would like you to know we are in process of changing all ou TVs to the new flat screen style.

I have carefully considered all your comments and have discussed them with my operations team in order to take action. Again, I'm sorry that you stay did not live up to expectations however I hope you will provide us with the opportunityto host your holiday in the future so we can show yor the improvements that you helped us to achieve.

Best Regards

We stayed at El Dorado Seaside Suites for 2 weeks in July 2012 for our honeymoon. After months of searching for the perfect place we decided to book El Dorado Seaside suites and weren't disappointed.

One word to describe the most beautiful place we've ever been: Paradise. This is the perfect place to spend the first few weeks of married life and we thought it was absolutely amazing.

The rooms were very spacious and the in room jacuzzi bath was heaven. The staff were very friendly and would do anything for you. We tried most of the restaurants but our favourite by far was Mia Casa and we visited almost every night. We sometimes had to wait for a table but it was never more than 30 minutes and we could enjoy the fabulous range of cocktails in the bar whilst waiting.

The beach is beautiful and we never had a problem getting sun loungers or a sun bed. The team of men working on the beach work very hard to remove the seaweed and rocks. We booked our trips through the beach hut with Antonio and Pablo who gave us great advice on the best places to visit and even managed to get our dolphin swim package upgraded so we got to swim with the manatees too.

We also made a trip to the beautiful spa in the hotel grounds for a couples massage and would definitely recommend a visit.

We cant recommend the hotel high enough and definitely hope to return one day.

Room Tip: Swim up rooms in Block 39 would be the best if you fancy a drink when you return from the beach ever...

This is an older hotel with great staff. In fact, the staff who are among the best I have experienced anywhere in the world - and that includes 5 star hotels in HK, Bali and Phuket- are what make this hotel. Combined with reasonable prices compared with Secrets Maroma (our favorite but now too expensive), or Excellence hotels, this is a good choice.
The basic garden rooms are small - I wish they would get rid of the useless Jacuzzi. The beach is quite ok, and there are always lots of beach chairs or beach beds, which is an exception for Riviera Maya hotels. The pools are small but not crowded as most people seem to prefer the beach.
The restaurants are good - not great - but then few hotels in the Mayan Riviera have really good food. The service again makes up for the food.
About half the nights there is a live band, but it usually starts after 10 pm and only plays for an hour. Still we appreciated the live music.
So the important question is, would we go back ? Given a good price versus other well rated hotels, we would.
A final note re the flight to and from Cancun, We flew Sunwing and all that I can say is that you get what you pay for. The day we returned, our flight was 3.5 hours late but we were lucky as Sunwing cancelled 3 0f 6 flights leaving Cancun that day. And the check in line was the longest I have ever seen anywhere, with literally hundreds of people lined up and waiting well over an hour to check in, after which they then waited 5 hours for their flight.

My husband and I just returned from a week at the El Dorado Seaside. It was outstanding. This is a very romantic low key place perfect for couples. From the moment we arrived we knew we had picked the right place. We arrived about 6 - just in time for a lovely dinner at the Vida. When we got the hotel it was pouring rain and we were happy to see an umbrella waiting for in the room. This place really thinks of the little things. Everyone was very friendly and happy to do whatever they could for you.
The food was excellent everywhere we went. Nothing was out of place and the service was always quick. Our favorite was Vida for Breakfast, the restaurant (inside) by the activity pool for lunch and Italian or Mexican for supper. Oh and room service for afternoon snacks. We tried to try everything but there were just to many choices.
Most nights we took in the show after dinner which were pretty good. The fire show was great, just don't sit to close as the fumes are pretty strong and the Mayan night on the beach was great.
We had a swimup suite which was great because we are very low key travelers. We spent just about every morning lounging in our own private space, paddling down to the bar to have a drink. The water in the lazy river was very refreshing (cold) it could have been heated just a touch more but our bartender said the temperature was due to the rain the day we arrived.
The only issue we had was the AC. The air conditioning in the room was a bit temperamental at times. We woke up a couple nights because it had decided to shut off and go into fan only mode. Once we figured out the programs it was better but it was a bit annoying to wake up at 4 am sweating. Most of the time it worked great. I think it might be part of the "eco" thing - trying to save power by reducing the AC at night.
We were far away from the construction so it did not bother us at all. We did notice it when walked to the lobby or Vida. Near building 40 and 41 it was quite loud so stay away from those ones.
We loved the big soaker tub and took advantage of it quite a bit.
The beach was great. I never wore water shoes or sandals in the water. I just watched were I walked and avoided the odd really rocky spot. Don't waste your time getting up at 6 am to "save" a beach bed. We wandered over the beach in the afternoon everyday and never had trouble finding a bed in a great spot. It was quite frustrating to see a number of beds go unused because inconsiderate guests choose to do this and never came to use the spot for hours. Be considerate and remember there are plenty of beach spots for everyone so don't be a hog if you are not using it.
It really is the details that make this hotel something special. People are truely happy to serve you and make sure you have a great time.

From start to finish this holiday was the best I've ever had! The room was perfect and kept spotless for the hole stay with towel art almost everyday, mini bar stocked up and fresh towels everyday.
The pool areas are nice and clean and very relaxing the most you get disturbed is when the waitress comes and asks if you want a drink, same with the beach really!! The beach is not perfect but is really not as bad as people make out on here!!
The hotel grounds are kept perfectly with staff working round the clock to keep it that way.
We tried all the restaurants and could not fault them, good quality food served by staff that really could not do enough for you!! There is a good choice on all menus so there is always something you like! At the bar you can pretty much order anything you want the selection is that big, they use mainly international brands so no issues there!!
There is some building work going on, but unless your walking up the main drive towards the gym/spa it won't effect you!!
I would most defiantly return to this hotel it is outstanding!! The staff really are a credit to the hotel!!

Tash!
