“Good resort at the moment....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We spent 14 nights here from the middle of November 2012. This resort has a sea frontage of about 500m, however only about 200m has direct sea access and only about 50m is clear of rocks/coral. The water is lovely warm temperature (unlike the pools which are rather cool) and is protected by artificial reefs maintaing a depth of about 1.2m.
To promote their idea of romantic couples there are a lot of 'double' beds on the beach but because they create shade most people grab 2 sunbeds as well which means there is a shortage when the hotel is busy. This can only get worse when a new 90 room block opens next year because the beach is not very deep due vegetation and the planned extension to the beach is to the south where there aren't any suites. They could also do with having some toilets on the south end of the resort. When the new lobby opens it will be about 1km from the furthest suites!!
The staff were all very friendly and the girls that provided our beach bar service (Ana & Anyeli) were fantastic! The staff in the restaurants were mostly good but they can't cope at peak times and sometimes their level of expertise is poor, a waiter changed my wife's main course cutlery across her whist she was eating her starter! The food quality could be better, sometimes had no flavour so we think it's probably all imported frozen. There are 7 restaurants, 3 open for breakfast and 5 in the evening. The breakfast is buffet or waiter in 2 out of 3 but the queue for fresh eggs & omlettes is poor, more chefs required at breakfast and trying to get bacon is difficult, it's not available to help yourself. The house wine generally offered is rubbish so ask for the Chardonnay or the Cab Sav - it's a lot better, the wine on the wine list is expensive and not much better!!
The sun went off the beach about 3 in the afternoon and the vegitation has been allowed to take over so the whole resort goes into shade. It rained on quite a few days.
There is one tennis court but no lighting so we could only play till about 5.15.
In summary the resort is good, very clean and tidy. the staff willing and friendly although at times the food service was lacking. The food could better.
Personally I believe their current 'improvements' will spoil this resort from spring 2013 & therefore I won't return. It also a 10.5hr flight from UK with 6 hour time change.

Room Tip: None of the rooms have unobstructed sea view, swim-up pool rooms are in the shade and the pools are...

What an amazing place the staff here are amazing and do friendly, they cannot do enough for you. This place has it all food that is out of this world, amazing drinks. We got a different piece of towel art every day. the time difference did not seem to affect us which was great, the entertainment staff are great fun and are always on hand to have a laugh and joke with. We also went on some amazing trips. Everyone on holiday there is so friendly and chat to you no matter your age. I would recomend this hotel to anyone its AMAZING!

We had a fantastic time at this wonderful hotel, even though there was work going on to update parts of the hotel. This hotel has everything to offer and the staff are very friendly and pleasant at all times. We cannot fault this hotel for its service, quality, cleanliness and food standard.
All the restaurants were of very high standard and rooms where cleaned every day.
Food, drink choice was amazing and a 5 Star resort for all your needs.
Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay for a romantic getaway.
Meal on the beach a must as nice and romantic and worth every penny.

We were back happy with our stay at the El Dorado Seaside. This was our third stay at a Karisma Hotel. This is the most relaxing. The Seaside is a small resort hidden under the trees, with new age music throughout the trails. We are always within walking distance of everything. There are enough restaurants to avoid it seems repetitive.
Beach: Not the best. A bit small, with a narrow space to swim. There are a lot of pebbles on the majority. It is fun to go see the fish. The only downside is people feed them with bread, which attracts many seagulls and barracuda, which lacks a visit every day ... Because of this, I avoided snorkel because I was scared to see the barracuda appear. There is a lot of sunbeds and it's very comfortable. The beach is quiet, no screaming people.
Reception: check-in and check-out was quick and pleasant. The lobby is small and pretty.
The Internet: Sad that this hotel does not offert free Wi-Fi ... It costs $10 to $ 50 depending on if you take a day or a week. In a hotel of this standard, it should be free
The Room: For our part, we had a renovated room. Well appointed, with sparkling wine, fresh fruit and hot bath waiting for us. A nice touch. There is a lot of renovation, and construction around. We were not disturbed by the noise.
Restaurants: The a la carte restaurants for dinner are all well. We have nothing to complain about. I think we have preferred the Mexican, maybe because Enrique's nice touch. Although the food standard seemed to us less than the El Dorado Royale. But the outdoor restaurants for lunch (Sandwicherie and BBQ Grill) seemed to us rather inadequate for a gourmet resort. Too much fast food. The only restaurant (The Vida Garden Grill) that offered a gourmet menu for lunch was inside and we prefer to eat under the Sun. The other a la carte restaurant for lunch, the Arrecifes, was not good. The service was good everywhere except few exceptions. Muchas gracias por todo Anselmo!
Wine: Not the best. Beer was good. And they do a very good spanish sangria!
The Healthy corner: We were happy to see they had a place to have fresh fruit juices/smoothies. But, were deceived to see they used concentraded and not fresh fruits. It was too sweet and not drinkable and open only at 9h am. If you like Healthy juice and food, you must try the Healthy corner of El Dorado Royale! You'll have a blend of fresh fruits only, open early in the morning, open for lunch (and outdoor) with also healthy food.
Concierge: It was a breeze. We had only very good concierges and it was really appreciated. Thanks you all! You do a great job.
In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is welcoming and comfortable. If you are looking for a quiet place with little animation, you'll enjoy the El Dorado Seaside.

We have just returned from an 11 night stay in this relaxing resort and I agree with all reviews, absolutely the most relaxing holiday we have ever had!!!

As soon as we arrived we were met by friendly staff, who could not do enough for us. The introduction over, we were taken to our rooms which were just superb. We had one of the non swim up rooms, 2nd floor with balcony looking through palm trees onto the beach. The only down side of our room, block 24, is a bit close to the bar, so some nights the music from the bar was a bit loud. I would suggest block 30 upwards if you want some peace and quiet.

The whole complex was spotless with staff everywhere, brushing, cutting, cleaning but always with a friendly “Hola” which went a long way and was always presented with a friendly smile.
The food, everywhere was superb, breakfast under the palm trees, friendly banter with Lorenzo and staff , was always a great way to start the day.

Some of the organised trips are close by eg Tulum ruins and swimming with turtles at Akumal bay . These can easily be done by yourselves and a lot cheaper. Just get the local minibus (Colectivo) from hotel gate and go direct, great saving. Also at Tulum ruins, it’s worth getting a guide, but expensive. We asked the guide to find another couple and we would split the price which they did, so good tip.

Looked at all the adventure parks around and left it to the end of holiday and spoke with many people throughout the week to find out which came top. If you like adventure, high zip wires, driving small off road buggies through caves then Xplor is the one to book. It took 10 years to build and has only been open three years. We had a fantastic day there and went home with a big childish grin on our faces.

At the hotel there is some extensive building work going on, building around another 100 plus rooms at the back of the resort but this had minimal effect on our holiday. My only worry is that we chose the resort because of its small intimate size and with the new buildings we are worried this may change.

All in all this is the best beach holiday we have had, service and food was 5*, the room was superb and the staff were the best. Personal thanks to our two concierge looking after room 2614, the mad Miguel with the infectious laugh, you will hear it before you see him and all the staff in the Italian restaurant who made my wife’s birthday a very enjoyable, friendly and memorable evening.

Finally, I have never been back to the same place twice but would definitely go back to The Eldorado Suites tomorrow. My only worry it may lose its intimacy due to the extra rooms being added and we will continue to monitor this on Trip Advisor.
If you go to the Eldorado suites… relax and enjoy

Room Tip: Use Colcetivos local mini buses, cheap and fun, easy to use, along every 10 minutes. Get a room awa...

My wife and I just returned back to Philly. We had such an amazing experience everyone made us feel like we we're at home! Everyone said "Hola," to us as we walked around the resort. Something so simple yet really made such a nice difference. Everyone was so warm and friendly and went the extra mile. Would highly recommend this resort to family and friends, the rooms were kept very clean every day. Everything was amazing, we used the gym, which is located in the spa. When you first walk into the spa, you can smell the relaxation, it always smelt sooooo great! We were greeted everyday we went to the gym, and even we found a fellow American working there, I think his name was Chris. He was really awesome! I had never had a massage before and he answered all of our questions and even suggested some services for us. Our therapists were out of this world. My wife was with Ignacio and I was with a lady named Enaye or anahee. Not sure how to spell it. My first spa experience was awesome. Thanks guys for making our vacation escape sooooo amazing! We will definitely be coming back!

We just returned from our one week stay at the EDSS and really enjoyed it. The staff at this resort are some of the hardest working and friendliest we have experienced. We travel 3 times a year and almost always to Mexico and usually to Cancun or the Mayan.

I'll break this review down to 3 categories:

Awesome:
The staff, hotel cleanliness and the entire resort grounds are spotless. Lots of cleaning is happening on a regular basis and the pride of the staff really shows while they work. Everyone from the waiters to the bartenders and of course the rec staff go above and beyond to ensure a good time is had by all. The Italian restaurant was (for us) the best al a carte. Excellent food, service and ambience made it our favourite.

Very Good:
The rooms are well appointed and very functional and even though we had to switch rooms once (due to getting a room with two double beds) we were very impressed with the lay out. I might only suggest to get rid of the TV cabinet to allow for more room at the foot of the bed. The cabinet doors don't open flush so you have to make sure you close them before you go to bed or you may walk into them. Lots of storage space and hangers made it easy to unpack.

Good:
The food at breakfast and lunch could use some help. The breakfast buffet did get backed up as there is only one egg station and people were getting a little frustrated waiting to get bacon and eggs (the cook controls the bacon and it's not on the buffet but rather beside her while she cooks...odd?). There is a menu you could order off of but we honestly don't mind getting our own food. There are two other areas to get breakfast on the resort but neither in our opinion were great.

At lunch time the patio has a small buffet and offers a choice of 7 different hamburgers, a few Panini options and desert; this gets old in a hurry. The beach grill has a few options of rice, beans, chicken or beef and hamburgers or hot dogs. The restaurant by the front desk offers a few different items and we found this to be the best of the bunch...just our opinion.

I'm sure your thinking that perhaps I'm nit picking but I can only give this a 4.5 star based on a poor beach area, lack of music, a poor and ugly looking swim up bar at the activity pool (looks like a drive thru) and some weak food options at breakfast and lunch. Draft beer is your only option unless you’re in your room and a less than average wine is offered in both white and red unless you pay for a bottle from the wine list.

Not sure if we will return as there are allot of adult only options out there but if I do it's because of the staff and resort cleanliness!!
