This hotel focuses on quality not quantity, if you want bling and pompous ceromoney, it is not the place to be.
We arrived back in the Uk today and overall thought the hotel was good, but as everyone has there own wish lists, there were are couple of things that we believed would make the hotel that little better and take fit from boardering on a 4 5 star to an actual 5 star,
The long entrance to the reception is beautifully landscaped but when you arrive at reception is is the most unassuming reception I have ever seen, it has some desks, a gift shop some comfy chairs and some chilled water and sparkling wine. This was my first time in a 5 star resort and I expected to walk into the recpetion and say WOW, I felt let down before I had even got to our room, luckily the hotel had manyother good points.
We were in room 3411 (ocean front room) right next to the presidential suite at the very edge of the hotel. The room was stuning, well dressed, bed was lovely, always clean and overlooked the see (just) with some beautiful flowers, shrubs and coconut trees which provided execellent homes for Mocking Birds, lizards etc.
The food is lovely, it delievered on most occasions apart from a couple of niggles..........
Because we were at the edge of the hotel, room service food was always cold. You will see waiters carefully carrying massive trays off food around the complex which is no mean feet in itself. I wonder why the hotel do not provide hot plate trolleys for them to push around which is safer and would keep the food warm.
Also. I believe the lunch menu is lacking compared to the rest of the menus.
The BBQ on the beach (everyday) consists of the same food, burgers, suasages, chicken and some sald which would consist of some lettuce, tomatoe, onion, gurkins and a bit of coleslaw. This is fine, but if you want a nice variety of sald you have to go into he Arrcife restatraunt, but this sald is not what would you expect from a 5 star GI resort. The resorts says that they grow and produce 31,000 tonnes of produce a month, I failed to see this in their salad variety.
Also, there are not options for snacks, you can't just get a scope of ice cream without going to the Sandwicherie, there are no nuts, crisps, plates oif fruit etc.
Apart from this, the food is fab!!
The beach is lovely, although small for the hotel. They are building another 15 beach beds, which will go someway to helping with the lack of beds, but as said on a previous review there aren't enough normal sunbeds and they are extremely uncomfotable and many are broken. Again I expected to see the next level. maybe bed with cushions.. The beach beds go into the shade very quickly, so people do reserve beach beds along with normal sunbeds, which means there aren't enough beds and still won't be if they don't stop people reserving them, even with th enew beds been built. If you want to be on abeach bed for the day and you are not laid on it by 6.30am (SERIOUSLY!) you won't get one and if you are not on the beach by 7.30 to 8am you won't get a bed at all. There are towles on the beds for hours with no one on them as they put beds on and then go back to bed etc.We saw many people laid on the sand on towels, in a 5 satr resort!!??
My last thing was about the loud music. The music in the bar was ok, it was hotel entertainmentafter all, my only issue was that I could still hear it in our room with the door shut and ear plugs in and we were at the edge of the resort., I personally wanted peace and quiet not to have to listen to thumping beats until 1-2 am. I had come to the conclusion that the resort provide serwentiy and promoted calmness, the music did not let you experience this on a night time.
My man does a lot of gym work and in his mind the gym was extremely poor. 3 machines weren't working and the quantity of machines in a spa resort was very limited.
Lastly, are the safes in the room... They could do with been on external walls as they are seriously noisey when you are tryig to close them, our neighboughs disn't manage to grasp the idea of how to use the key for the whole 2 weeks and at 6 every morning we had some major banging from next door as they were trying to open and close it.
On the plus side, there a too many points to mention...
We met some lovely people, hi to Geoff and l\iz from Bristol (keep up with the gym work Geoff) and also Steve & Sandra from the New Forest (just thinking about openng a B & B with a wicked sense of humour!)
Two members of staff I would like to mention are Gabrielle from the Garden Grill, funny and so polite....and Janet who serves drinks on the beach, works like a trojen and teaches you Spanish in the process!
The hotel feels like it has been built in a very beatiful forest with every care taken not to destroy the enviroment, visually stunning.
Keep an eye out for the hotel next door (headonism resort). You can't see anything it is totally secluded, but brought some colourfull conversations.
Overall a great place which really could go to the next level with some really small adjustments to what they already do.
