We ended up at the Palace thru Apple Square Deal for Adults Only, a stay at a 6 golden apple resort. Your resort was nice, everyone was very friedly and helpful. The biggest problem was with you VIP program. With a 6 Golden Apple vacation we were expecting to be at the top of line of hotels and treated that way. The first day we had to ask for our room to be cleaned at 4pm as it had not been done yet. Then we had to ask for the refrigerator to be restocked. The coffee carafe was broken and we had to ask for it to be replace. It was replaced then the very next day the broken one was back in our room. We waited over an hour for the Spa reservations to be made only to find out after hours the next day that what we waited so long to book had not been booked and everything was changes around. The shows where held in the other hotel in a small disco. This was a nice resort but I expected more and did not expect that there would be areas that we were not allowed because we were not VIP partners. We did the Adults Only 6 Golden Apple Vacation so we would experience the VIP treatment.

It was a fun place with tons of pools and even ping pong table in the pool but we felt isolated. 12 of us took a van to playa and ate at the palace there. The food was amazing there, not so hot at aventura. When you hire a van or car be sure and get the man who tells you the price to stand there and say he said 75.00 to the driver and wait for the driver to agree, when we got back it changed to 100.00. I am not sure i would go back, but it wasn't horrible.

If you are looking to walk the beach, this isn't the place for you, but the lagoon was specatuclar for snorkeling. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Food was absolutely awesome. Pool was great and the weather was more than cooperative - 30 minutes of rain in total (in one day). Access to both the Spa ( Adult Only) side and Cove (family) gave you lots of choice as to where to eat. We suggest that you take the Concierge Level upgrade as you will get $1500 worth of room credits to use for the spa, room upgrade, more expensive wines, golf, pictures, and excursions - golf was excellent as was the spa. Excursions were abundant - with Tulum/Xel-Ha being outstanding. Would go back again if we are not looking to walk the beach.

I just enjoyed seven wonderful days at the Aventura Spa Palace. I have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts and found these people are on top of their game. They provide a high quality resort with beautiful landscaping and excellent service. I particularly liked that the service here was expertly provided without being fawning. I have been at other high end resorts where the staff’s obsequiousness made me feel uncomfortable. Here service was more in the line of I’m a well trained professional here to do my job and meet your vacation needs.

A high point of this resort is its Spa. I believe it’s one of the biggest in Central America. Treat yourself while you are here to a spa treatment. I had a seaweed wrap which I never imagined I would ever do! It felt so therapeutic and cleansing thanks to the expertise of Gabriel who I’d recommend to any of the guys who don’t usually go in for these things.

In earlier reviews people have panned the Aventura’s beach. If you are a real beach person you should know that the coastline here is very rocky. The builders ingeniously cut canals into the rock and created a large salt water lagoon with a sandy beach shore. This has benefits and drawbacks. If you are a true “beach bum” who wants a traditional beach you might be disappointed. But the lagoon also offers advantages such as allowing elderly adults easy entry into the salt water. For me it worked out well since I used the lagoon on some days and then traveled on the Palace’s free shuttle bus up to their resort in Playa Del Carmen. Here I took a dip in the ocean and then got in some great shopping! Interestingly the surf was a little rough one day in Playa and I saw several people unable to enter---a circumstance that doesn’t arise in the lagoon. On a lark I also took a snorkeling tour of the lagoon and was amazed at the amount of marine creatures sharing the lagoon. Here I must say a public thank you to Mario who rescheduled the snorkeling trip so I could participate.

On the beautiful, warm evenings we enjoyed the 5 minute walk over to the Aventura Cove Resort to eat. (Aventura Spa and Aventura Cove resorts are right beside each other and a 5 to 10 minute walk depending on where your room is located and how fast you walk!) Restaurants that really stood out included La Hacienda, Ventanas and Mundaca. This latter restaurant really excelled for its architecture, its location beside the sea and the excellence of its staff, in particular our server, Irene and the restaurant’s manager, Jorge. Both are wonderful people who make sure you enjoy a great meal.

Since this has gone long in quick succession I’ll mention other high points: the evening entertainment at Aventura Cove, the pools and poolside activities at Aventura Spa and the recreation staff by the pool who worked very hard to organize activities and make people have fun. In particular I salute Daniel and Francisco. Go-- you won’t be disappointed and don’t worry about your safety in this part of Mexico---the trouble is hundreds of miles away.

The place is expensive and the people are friendly, but each day little things would go wrong. We upgraded to the highest level, but they were unable (or unwilling) to provide us with the upgrades. Every day something would go wrong. Not major things, but little very annoying things each day. The cumulative effect is to destroy a vacation.
You go to a spa to relax, not to have to fight for everything that they say they can do.
For the price they charge, you are better off staying someplace else.

My wife and I went as part of an Apple Square deal package. Our main request on a Riviera Mia vacation is to have a great beach to enjoy the ocean and walk and jog up and down the beach for hours at a time. But if you enjoy the beach, this is not for you. There is no beach. No sand. No jet ski's. No ocean kayaking, no parisailing. The only kayaking is on a small inlet, surrounded by stone. The hotel put down about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of gravely type small pebbles, cant really call it sand. Underneath is concrete. You can not walk barefoot on it. It is maybe 40 feet wide and a couple sections of about 150 feet at the most in length, but it is useless as sand. The pictures on the website are taken from an angle to make it appear to be a beach, but it is not. The one really neat bar near the "pseudo beach" is for VIP patrons only, and we were told "you cant go there". There were several VIP areas we had no access to, yet this was a 6 apple resort.

The food was average at best. Some was cold at the dinner buffet and we arrived for dinner right at the opening for the evening. Fruit was bitter. Salads were poor.

The resort was well over an hour from the Cancun airport, so beware as there is a long trip in store with a lot of traffic.

The one positive is staffing. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful of all the resorts we have stayed at in the Riviera Mia area, and this was our 10th trip in consecutive years. Waiters and waitresses in the restaraunts were great.

But when you have no beach, you had best have great service. Particular cudos to Elene at Public Relations/Guest Services who did all she could to make our stay better, even offering to find us another hotel at a busy time of the year.

If the beach is not important, than this is a great resort. But if you desire sand, room to walk along the ocean , swim in the ocean, body surf, kayak in the ocean, enjoy the water washing up on the beach then back to the ocean then this is not the resort for you.
