The garlic shrimp made the meal for us. Twelve of the most moist and full-bodied crustaceans were cooked absolutely perfectly with loads of sweet carmelized garlic (our new go-to ingredient) which made this meal absolutely memorable. One of us had the chicken quesedillas and wondered, the entire meal, how so much cheese and chicken could be packed into one dish (our guess: this is a record). The chicken was lightly grilled, not chewy, and oh-so-flavorful.Cheese was, however, pleasantly chewy and added such enjoyment to each and evey chew. Loved it!
We had the chips and salsa and guacamole sides and, with a margarita or two (hey, it was the happy hour 2-for-1 deal), we were happy campers.
You can get the shrimp (gulf shrimp,we were told) "plato" with all the rice, etc.or you can get it as the "special" (shrimp only) and we think this is the way to go. The chips are fantastic, very thin, crispy, lightly salted, and the salsa, OMG!!! The best. Have no idea if they make these things themselves or buy it but, after 7 years of coming here to the Mayan Riviera, these were the best.
Add to that the very pleasant setting with the dolphin pools just off the deck (across from Dreams), and you have a wonderful, restful experience which is a welcome change of venue from the marina offerings.
Will we be going back? You betcha!! The wait-staff were exceptional and left nothing wanting.
Price-wise, everything (2-for-1 drinks, sides, 2 main dishes, plus tip, was under $50 (bring cash or pesos, no credit cards).
Do seek this place out. It is so worth the effort.
