“Paradise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

We were looking so forward to getting out of the cold and into the warmth of paradise. What a beautiful property. The staff was friendly and the bartenders were lots of fun. We were with a group that took over the whole property and the staff at the Omni went out of their way to make sure that we were well taken care of. The pool and pool bar were so refreshing!! And the food!!! Everything we ate there was magnificent. My only disappointment was the beach (as many have said). They have put up a breaker out the water to help maybe bring some of the sand back to the beach area. That didn't damper those of us who took advantage of a chair or spending time walking the beach or doing some snorkeling, which can be done right off the beach area. We took a catamaran tour (unfortunately on a cloudy rough seas kind of day) so we didn't get to snorkel as planned, but the Fat Cat crew had us enjoying our day anyway. We toured Tulum one morning (only 1/2 hour away), which is very interesting. Our guide, Ana, was full of information! If you haven't toured Mayan ruins, you need to go. The view from over the ocean is breathtaking. But if you have been to Chichten-Itza, it's basically the same type of ruins, but on a smaller scale. Since the Omni is within the Puerto Aventuras complex, we felt very safe and enjoyed walks and even golfing within a couple hundred yards of the hotel. The marina is a fun place to walk around, shop, watch the dolphins, manatees and seals. As I sit here with 10-12 inches of snow on the hillside, I dream of returning to the palm trees of paradise! Oh--by the way, a little find on our last day right before we left, was the ice cream shop called Jessie Gelato just feet away from the hotel as you start around the marina. Homemade-and I mean-homemade ice cream of 12 to 14 different flavors, such as chocolate, vanilla, carmel, peanut butter, cherry, whiskey creme, just to name a few. You've got to try it!!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the street or marina do get loud sometimes, depending on if it's during the wee...

The staff and services were spectacular. Excellent breakfast every morning next to the ocean at El Xenote. We absolutely loved our servers Eliodore, Jose and Abner. The hotel exceeded all expectations we had. The pictures don't do it justice-right next to the ocean, calm waters and white sand. Hope to come back soon!

Room Tip: Ocean side rooms, third floor are ideal. Great ocean and poolside views.

What a wonderful hotel. We had an ocean view room with a jacuzzi on our balcony overlooking the pool and the beach. It just does not get any better than this. We loved our stay and plan to go back soon.

This was our 5th stay at the Omni Puerto Aventuras and we can't wait to return. The staff is amazing and takes the time to get to know their guest's names and preferences. The hotel has 32 beautiful rooms, each has a balcony with jacuzzi and hammock. We never had any difficulty getting chairs at the pool or beach. Be sure to eat at the pool bar, the food is delicious especially the nachos! El Xenote is also a great place for a meal, beautiful ocean views and excellent food and service. Recommend the new meal plan, you won't be disappointed.
The beach is gorgeous, snorkeling is great, town is fun and a few steps away which has several restaurants, shops, a Dolphin Discovery, Marina and golf course. We enjoyed renting a golf cart for a day (approx. $40 USD) and explored all of Puerto Aventuras.
We have been to Mexico 10 times and stayed at several different resorts with various friends and family of all ages. The Omni Puerto Aventuras is a favorite by all!

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms on the third floor overlook the Marina, where you can hear the live entertainmen...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

I agree with some of the other reviews... the Omni in Puerto Aventuras is a rare place. My family stayed here (my wife and I and our three kids... 18, 15, 13) from December 27 through January 5. We arrived late on a Friday night so we didn't get a great feel for the resort until the next day when we walked out of the lobby and onto the pool deck to a beautiful, warm & sunny scene. First, the resort is small... three floors and 10 rooms on each floor. The odd numbered rooms face the beach and the even-numbered rooms faced the marina & town. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the street and our kids ended up facing the beach on the second floor. From the street, the hotel doesn't look like much and from the beach or sea, the hotel is almost invisible because it's so low and is obscured by trees. The beach is small but generally large enough to accomodate the guests. They have built a low breaker of rocks out in the sea so that there is a small, enclosed swimming area which is nice. The water was very warm. There are loungers in the sand and at the pool and there are plenty for everyone. I agree that shade is at a premium but there are some umbrellas on the pool deck and palapas on one part of the beach as well as a few palm trees on the beach. If you like to snorkel, you can swim out of the breaker area and go straight out and find some coral structure where you will see a lot of fish. Out and to the left (towards the jetty on the left side of the bay) there is a very large coral structure where we saw rays, barracudas, scorpion fish, trumpet fish and a number of other things. The visibility is very nice out there and it's quite shallow even if you're far out into the bay. It's a bit of a swim but you could also walk around onto the jetty wall and climb down into the water in that spot. Also, my son and I noticed a number of rays just on the other side of the breaker wall in front of the hotel. At one point, we noticed one about 10-20 feet beyond the wall and as I continued to swim into the enclosed area (in about 5' of water) I swam over another one. They are not aggressive but there are a lot of people swimming in these areas so it's best to be aware of where you are. The restaurant onsite is very nice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is also a beach/pool bar called Pina Colada that serves drinks and lunch throughout the day. Big ups to Miguel, Dany & Clemente at the beach bar. These guys work their tails off every single day and they took good care of us. Eddier and Jorge do a great job in the restaurant and we saw them there every day. There is also a gym and spa onsite as well as a dive shop. My son and I went out on a dive with them on one day (Thanks Maximo and Andres!) to a site called Santos Reef which was very nice. The people at the dive shop are great and made the dive easy and fun. The rooms at the Omni are large, functional and comfortable. The bed is a little firm but we slept very well. The balconies have a cushioned bench, a hammock, a table with chairs and a tub. The first-floor rooms have a full-blown hot-tub on the patio and the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms have more of a Jacuzzi-style tub large enough for two. The housekeepers did a nice job keeping the room neat and rotating the shower & pool towels. A few more observations about the resort: My family thought that the food at the restaurant (El Xenote) was very good. The breakfasts we had were outstanding. We also had dinner here a couple nights because it was either raining or windy and we were able to eat inside. The dinners were also very good. It appears that the pool bar and the restaurant might be short-staffed, especially since we were there during high season. You should not expect to just rush into the restaurant for breakfast and expect to make the 10:00 bus to Playa del Carmen or whatever. It moves slower than that. My kids ordered lunch one day before they were supposed to leave for an activity but 45 minutes went by and their lunch was not ready. They left and my wife and I ended up eating what they ordered. This is not good or bad, just an observation. One of the bartenders called this "a Mexican minute" so take it for what it's worth. More on Puerto Aventuras: It's a small community off the main road (Mexico 307) that is gated. It's between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Part of it is a marina with small waterways running into the town. There are other resorts and timeshares all around. In the middle of the village is a dolphinarium that is surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants. You can walk from the Omni to a number of these establishments in 5 minutes. We had dinner and/or lunch at almost every place. Most of them are outside and all of them were very good. One thing that strikes me about all of them is that the service is a little slow (again, not good or bad, just an observation) but that the food was always very good. Fresh soups, great seafood, steaks, pastas, chicken, pizza, etc. The people are warm, friendly and helpful as you would expect in Mexico. We did our best to speak as much Spanish as we could but everyone there speaks English as well so communication is never a problem. There are also some convenient stores so you can stock your room fridge (there is an Oxxo right across the street from the Omni) as well as small coffee shops, a watersports store, a bike rental, etc. Our room at the Omni was right above the restaurant Olé where they have live music on various nights. I couldn't really tell if there was a schedule for the music. I will say that it is loud but it typically does not go very late. If you close your door and have the AC on, it might be better. One night there was a pair of flamenco-style guitar players that were great. I just laid in the hammock and listened to them and by 10:30 or so, they were done. There is an Eco-Park called Kantun-Chi about 10 minutes away which I highly recommend. There are a number of underground cenotes, outdoor cenotes and a great underground river tour that was outstanding (thanks Cesar!). With the package we took, there was also a great, traditional Mayan style lunch served in an open-air pavillion which was great. We also took a taxi to Playa del Carmen and took the ferry across to Cozumel... all easily done from Puerto Aventuras. We had a great time here at this resort. It's sleepier than one of the big mega, all-inclusive spots. Cheers to everyone who works here & thanks for a great vacation.

Room Tip: Odd-numbered rooms face the beach. The higher floors are better.

Great location! The beach is small but so is the hotel so you don't need a huge beach. The sandbags are gone and the beach is becoming beautiful again. Snorkeling is great and it's right outside your door. The rooms are very clean, as is the entire resort. The staff is top notch. From people who clean all the way up to Sol. We did the new meal plan and it was phenomenal !! The restaurant rivals any thing in the states. The food and service in there is first class. Don't be in a hurry and enjoy the food and the view!! We have stayed at many places in Mexico and this is my wife's favorite.

The nachos at the pool bar are a must. Order those with a bucket of beer and again, enjoy the view.

There is plenty to do near by. Puerto is a great town by itself, but if that's not enough for you, Playa is just up the road. Plenty of attractions are close as well. But for us the Omni is our attraction.
I can't say enough good things about this property, the people working there or Puerto in general.

Thanks for making our Christmas special!!

Room Tip: You cant go wrong with an ocean view, however the dolphin side is fun too. Some nights you can hear...
