This is a rare hotel indeed. A small, friendly hotel on the Mexican Caribbean coast. In an area where hotels seem to try and out do each other by getting bigger and bigger the Omni keeps it small, friendly and to a very high standard.
Welcomed on arrival with a cold towel and a cold drink on arrival and then shown to your room, the rooms are spotlessly clean and nice and large, ours was a sea view room with the standard hammock and spa bath on the balcony. Robes and slippers are supplied along with hairdryers, irons and ironing boards. A pillow menu is available
There is a good sized pool with various depths so that even toddlers can play safely.
Others have commented that the beach is quite small but that is nature for you and the Omni are trying to address this by putting a break water in and they have built up the area behind the spa/gym (which I hasten to add is very well appointed for gym equipment and free weights).
Dive Aventuras is based on the premises and is a very good set up with a high staff to diver ratio on dives.
My only slight grumbles are the lack of sun shades around the pool, the only ones there are the "4 poster bed" ones that cost $25 p.d to hire or the ones placed at the tables by the bar. The pool bar has a wet side with air jets in the water, great idea.
The A/I menu is limited and after a few days gets a bit samey, I would have preferred a "daily special" added or even just the same menu as all guests with maybe a payable supplement for the one or two items that would be over priced.
There is a supermarket opposite the hotel which means you don't have to pay hotel prices for drinks and snacks and a cash machine up the road. The bar opposite has live music a couple of nights a week but finishes at about 2130-2200 and won't bother you with a sea view or garden view room but will be audible if you have the rooms facing the harbour/dolphin prison camp.
The bar serves good value food as does the pizza shop just passed the supermarket. The pizza shop does great pizzas at bargain prices, the staff there are very efficient but the owner/manager must be one of the most miserable characters to walk the planet. Don't expect to even notice your presence.
Paradise Tours are a good resource for organising any trips or days out. I can recommend the Chichen Itza trip and the Tulum Extreme, we also booked our transfers with them.
