“Good conference hotel with views of Oslo Fiord”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

Attended a large, two day conference at Expo and was especially impressed by the helpfulness of the receptionists. I was given a room with a window opening up to a large roof and did not care for the idea of someone being able to walk right in. The receptionist not only gave me another room, she upgraded me to a ‘mini-suite’ (room 251) built to accommodate guests in wheel chairs, therefore being quite large. And with a small kitchenette in one corner, alas without neither a kettle nor tea things nor anything else in the cupboards, which made the presence of the kitchenette rather strange.
The bathroom was large as well, but the shower space was awkwardly small, and as the floor did not tilt very much and the curtain did not quite reach the floor, a shower would result in quite a lot of water flowing across the bathroom floor.
The hotel is brand new and they provided teas, coffee, popcorn and ice cream free of charge, a nice touch. The bar is quite expensive, but not overly so considering this is Norway.
Oslo Fiord is a very short walk away and a beautiful place to unwind.
I would recommend this for meetings and conferences, but not for tourists. It is effective, clean and the beds are comfortable, but it does not have much charm and Oslo is quite a distance away.

The brand new Quality Hotel Expo is just what the Fornebu area needed. A modern and innovating hotel for both individual travellers and conferences.

I attended a conference at the hotel and everything was perfect from the start to the end - arrival Tuesday and departure Wednesday.

The conference rooms are spasious and with good air. All technical equipment worked as it should. And conference breaks were filled with coffee, softis, popcorn, cake and fresh vegetables.

I will especially mention the meals. A very good and healthy lunch both days (with a lot of choices of both hot and cold dishes) and a good breakfast. However, I must especially mention the dinner we had Tuesday night - it was superbly made and served.

The rooms are spasious and with all the comfort you need. I was lucky to get a room with a view towards the Oslofjord...

I must also mention that the hotel has a coffebar - Wayne's Coffee. So in addition to the free coffee at the conference, you can enjoy a perfect cup of coffe of your choice from Wayne's...

Definitely a hotel to visit if you need a hotel close to Oslo. If you need to go downtown, there is a bus leaving just outside the hotel every 5-10 minutes...

My husband, myself and our dog stayed for a week while we were relocating between assignments. The location is great for business travelers wanting to access the business park, conferences or those attending an event at the Telenor Arena a short walk away. The grounds of the Fornebu area are right on the fjord and were great for walking the dog during the day. Not very convenient for tourists wanting to explore the centre of Oslo. It's about 30 minutes bus ride into town. About 15 minute drive in the other direction to get to Sandvika with the large shopping mall, restaurants and cinemas.

The lobby area is very modern, love the 'living' walls filled with plants. Wayne's Coffee has a shop in the lobby area and there is also a spacious bar and lounge area with lots of comfortable chairs and tables. It can get a party atmosphere when a conference is having their end of the day socialising.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the cleaning staff who I thought might be upset at having a dog in the hotel, but in fact treated him with a lot of affection. He started to think he was a celebrity the way they would always stop to greet him. They were very accommodating working the cleaning schedule around when we were out for walks.

The room was twin beds, not a double like we had asked, but they didn't have one available when we checked in. We were on the ground floor, facing the fjord. Room was quiet, no traffic noise, occasional noise from people going past talking loud, but other than that very quiet. Has a window that opens a small amount. The beds were comfortable enough but the room did feel a bit hot and stuffy at night. I tried to understand the air-conditioning system but not sure how it worked and never got around to asking. Desk, chair, lamps, flat screen TV all good. Lots of plugs around. Small wardrobe space with hangers - designed with the short term business traveller in mind. There was a mini fridge in the room and we moved out some of the drinks to make room for our own supply. Bathroom is nice, good shower, hairdryer in the room. Wooden floor was useful with the dog.

WIFI was free and a strong, reliable signal, even for a Skype call out. We used our Nordic Choice Club cards to log in but guests can get an access code from reception and log on that way. Laundry was effective, though because it was outsourced, meant that there was no 'rush' jobs available. If you miss the cut off, you can't send it through until the next day.

The breakfast buffet is the usual suspects - cereal, bread, fruit, cheese, meat, eggs in various forms, hot beans, potatoes, mushrooms and sausages. Would have been nice if they had put out soya milk or other non-dairy alternative, though that is very rare in Norway anywhere.

We ate at the restaurant twice. It does get a little noisy. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the main dish very much but the dessert of chocolate cake was a surprise in how small the serving was - just two small round dots not the slice we were expecting. Only two vegetarian options on the menu but that's two more than in many Norwegian restaurants so no complaints. There are few other options for restaurants but we did order pizza from Dolly Dimples over in Sandvika to be delivered one evening and that worked great.

Parking is available under the hotel at an hourly rate up to a max of 150 NOK per day, which felt a little on the steep side. Never had a problem finding a space though during the day in the working week it did get more busy.

Hotel is still under construction in parts but it wasn't noisy or intrusive. Would definitely stay there again if the need arose.

Room Tip: There is a choice of carpeted or wooden floor rooms, ask for your preference. A room towards the fj...

Stayed here for a convention as an exhibitioner.
The hotel wasn't ideal for such conventions, as some exhibitioners were placed far from the visitors, and the "flow" of people didn't pass these exhibitioners.

There was a mix-up with rooms, which allowed me to try out their family-room first, which was spacious, and had a small kitchen-area with all amenities.

I was then moved to one of their suites, which was equipped with a coffee-maker, good beds and a small TV.
Didn't quite get the "suite-feeling" though, since the room didn't have a bathtub, larger TV, or anything else one would expect from (as described by the staff) the most expensive rooms in the hotel..

All in all; a good venue for a smaller convention, or perhaps for a family trip IF you have a rental car, or aren't afraid to take the bus to town.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room overlooking the sea.

Stayed there for a conference, but the location is no good as for a tourist option since it is quilte out of town and requires a bus ride of at least 30 min to get into Oslo.
Brand new rooms, nothing to fault there.
Loved the free soft ice machine. Otherwise, bad acoustics in the dining area.

I stayed here for one night attending a conference. This is an entirely new hotel opened only a couple of weeks ago prior to my stay. The conference facilities (especially the rest-area with coffe/tea, cake, popcorn and soft ice) were nice, but very crowded and noisy outside the conference rooms.

We had dinner in the evening. Food was good, but the entire dinner area was extremely loud with bad acoustics! This has to be dealt with. My room was nice and clean, but I was a bit surprised that the floors were carpeted.

Bus 31 is only a 3 min walk from the hotel, and during daytime the bus goes into Lysaker and Oslo every 6-10 minutes. I would not recommend this hotel for tourists visiting Oslo, but it works out just fine as a business hotel.

Dear Jacob,

Thank you for your feedback!
I am glad you liked our popcorn, ice cream and food in general.
Regarding the noise and load acoustics we are working to find a solution.

Next time you visit us, please ask for a room with wooden floor! More than 50% of our rooms are not carpeted.

Regarding Quality Hotel Expo not beeing a tourist hotel, I have to disagree with you. We have a perfect seaside location, scenic view and yet a mere 10-minutes drive from Oslo city center. The beach is located only 100 meters from the hotel :)

Hope to see you again soon at our hotel, and thank you again for your constructive feedback!

Best regards

New hotel opened only a couple of week prior to my stay. Nice conference facilities (especially the rest-area w/coffee, cake, popcorn and soft ice). Not so positive when it comes to the lack of electric sockets in conference rooms. Extension cords should not be necessary in a new hotel!
The lunch area was very "loud". Bad acoustics - there something should be done.
The rooms were great! Loved them, and especially the bed.
Food was good.
Bus 31 is 3 min walk from the hotel, and during daytime goes into Lysaker every 6 minutes. From Lysaker very easy to get in to Oslo City. 15 min to walk to Lysaker. Nice surrounding country at the hotel.
Very nice staff. Everyone smiling and making you feel welcome.
Great as a business hotel, maybe a bit expensive and far from center of Oslo for tourists.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view towards Oslofjorden.
