“The atmosphere is worth the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

If I could rate the food, it might be less than Excellent but it was certainly better than Very Good. The atmosphere, music, ambience and service make it over the top! We will be back before we head home! But it is pricey for Ixtapa...but you would pay 2-3 times as much in an exclusive US resort...

“Food as over-cooked and it is over-priced. Disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2012 via mobile

We visited villa de la selva last night and were really excited to go there because of all the great reviews. There is no denying that this restaurant has an amazing setting. We arrived for sun set and although we were slightly disappointed with the table we were given we did enjoy a lovely sun set. There, unfortunately, is where villa de selva stopped impressing us. We both ordered beef carpaccio for starter. It is a shame to report that the lovely beef might as well not have featured on the plate as it was drenched in an over powering cheese dressing. The rocket and almonds accompanying the dish were very good however. I had jumbo shrimp in coconut and mango for entree. Again, I was disappointed. The shrimp were over cooked and did not taste fresh. My husband had the trio of fish( mahi-mahi, salmon and tuna), again over cooked and drenched in generic, supermarket, 'from a jar' sauce. Dessert was good, though inelegantly named 'chocolate three-way'. Coffee was good. Wine list was extensive but presented in a very confusing manner.
Final bill came to USD 149. Last negative came when we were leaving and were brusquely told by the maitre d 'there were plenty of taxis outside'. We went out into the dimly lit and very quiet street to find not one. We had to go back inside and wait again while they called one. Sorry to say not impressed and will not be returning.

“Muy Caro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2012

Having lived in Mexico since May 2003, and visited Zihua/Ixtapa several times (and most of the Pacific Coast resorts in Dec - Mazatlan; PV; Careyes; Barra de Navidad, etc.), this was the most expensive restaurant I have have ever enjoyed.

That said, the food; wine, and service were wonderful.

The views are almost as good as mine in San Miguel de Allende.

I never order Caesar salad, but their's sounded amazing and it was - best ever. My woman had the over the top house special salad, which I really liked, but she wanted my Caesar.

The Huachinango (Gulf red snapper) and shrimp were done perfectly; woman had great dessert and the wine was a Spanish Rias Baixas from Galicia.

OK, so it was US$127.69 including tip - worth every penny.

Provecho!

“Excellent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

After many years of travelling to Ixtapa this was our first visit to Villa De La Selva and my only regret is that we waited so long to check it out. The views are truly amazing and we were lucky enough to arrive in time to witness the magnificent sunset which I highly recommend. In December/January, the sun sets around 6:30 so a reservation at 6:00-6:15 was perfect. We enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sun go down as many boats traversed back and forth from Ixtapa to Zihua.

The food was first rate as was the service. We started with the calamari and the melted Brie cheese, both were excellent. I then enjoyed a simple skirt stake which was cooked exactly as I asked and my wife had Mahi Mahi which was also very nice.

Overall, this place is a must for anybody travelling to Ixtapa who is looking for an amazing setting with wonderful food and exceptional service! We went back a second time and experienced more of the same!
