“Peace and Quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We have stayed here for 16 years and enjoy the peace and quiet. The staff are wonderful and the feel of the Palace is more like staying in a private condo than a hotel. The rooms and grounds are clean and it is nice having a kitchenette. Restaurants, beach, and shopping are all within walking distance. The Palace is right on the bike path and bus line.

Please read the entire review before you make up your mind. Ixtapa Palace is a clean place, that is adequately furnished with a bed, couch, table, kitchenette, A/C and a bathroom. The rooms are kept in good shape, and It is NOT infested with cockroaches or termites like some of the places in Zihua. It has 3 pools on site, one with a water slide (that wasn't working at the time of our visit). There is a full gym with spinning classes and Zumba classes. It also has a massage therapist on site, and he has a great spa experience with a jacuzzi tub, an herb infused steam room, and finishing off with a full massage. There is a water park right next to the hotel with lots of water slides, etc. The Ixtapa palace is an easy 10 min. walk to the public access of the beach of Playa El Palmar. It is very close to several really good restaurants, grocery shopping, souveniers, the bus, etc. You can tell that this place was a grand in it's day, but has seen some wear. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They also gave us information and advise on where to go and how to get there. There is also a couple of little quirks, they turn off the hot water unit after 11:00 am, and don't turn it on again till 6 pm. If you like to shower mid day, it will be lukewarm, but not cold. They are also the gym of the local residents, so those before mentioned spinning and zumba classes are going on through the day, with a disco techno club beat pounding away. We went in January and we found it quiet and an ideal time, not a lot of other people. If you don't need a high priced 4 star hotel, but can settle with something clean and quiet, I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure your room has all the kitchenette amenities that you need, if you don't like the first...

i had a wonderful time in this hotel!! The rooms are awesome they have a kitchen; fridge and a small dine area. i came here with my wife and son. i had a blast, it has a waterpark inside the hotel. The beach is about a block from the hotel. You have great restaurants around the hotel. Senior frogs in the corner. the staff is awesome you can do whatever you want in the hotel nobody comes to bother you!! They are very laid back but have a lot of security. The pools are opened all night, even though it says they close at 6pm i was swimming till midnight. The food is amazing and really cheap.. What i love about the hotel, its really nice a quiet and there’s vegetation everywhere. i looked everywhere for hotel rooms and they were all over priced.. i recommend ixtapa palace 100%.. You will not regret it!!!

Room Tip: the junior suites are very Comfortable, Kitchen, fridge and dinning area

I have stayed here before in 2002 and had a better time January 2011. Not many Americans at this place which had Mexican families and has a Mexico feel. Away from the beach front madness. Clean/ cool pools with good pool bar drink service by a friendly man.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Don't expect room maintenance repairs although our room was one of the remodeled rooms and was nice although bed was firm, but we slept well after a day in the sun. Close to town and restaurants. Would recommend for a low key visit and mellow stay. May not be for everyone expecting the beachfront scene.

Just like the review stated before me. IF you like to share your resort vacation with hundreds of Federal Police then this is the place. We felt completely unwelcome at this resort. THis resort caters to the Federals only. Restaurant is open for them only. Swim up bar closed, the water park was closed. The staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful. The rooms were old and worn down. No hot water. Nothing seemed to work. We spent majority of our time off the resort. Ixtapa itself is a wonderful place, but just do not stay at this resort. We called RCI and complained and they did compensate us by giving us another week. Thank God there was plenty of other things to do off the resort. Ixtapa has great restaurants, and shopping and lots of activities. We booked several activities through Ixtapa Holidays. Carlos was wonderful and very accomodating. Go to Las Gatas if you can. Beautiful beach. Walk all the way down to the end of the beach and stop at Otilia's. Ask for Franco. The staff there was wonderful and we had a blast. We went over there twice during our stay and Franco just took really good care of us. We will be going back to Ixtapa our next trip, but we will never stay at the Ixtapa Palace again.

Ixtapa Palace ....What a dump.
Stay away from this place BAD NEWS !!!
Worn spots on the sheets, no towels in the room, water coming up through floor drain in bathroom, the whole place is worn look.
Water park next door didn't work. We share the hotel with 200 - 300 federal police staying at the facility. Felt like I was staying in the Green zone in Iraq. Automatic weapons, flack jacket, some with face masks on. Restaurants: There was no place to eat at hotel since it was a full time job feeding the troops but found a nice place around the corner. Went to Pacifica Report and bought a time share.
Loved Ixtapa, beautiful beaches, friendly people.
