“Busy Easter Week!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

We stayed at Park Royal the week of Easter break. The hotel was wonderful, very clean and friendly., but very busy at that time, mostly with Mexican tourists. The rooms were average with a nice balcony overlooking the pool area. The beds were comfortable and we did not need a bed topper. The food was very good most days, lots to choose from and the staff was excellent! Pool was nice, lots of chairs and shaded areas. Two different washroom areas close by, plus a fitness gym, and store. There is a restaurant near the water which is a nice change from the main buffet. Beer came served in a cold frosty mug. You could order specialty of the day or have buffet. We ate a few times at the snack bar which had burgers, nachos, pizza, ect. Beach was beautiful with a soft brown sand, lots going on with parasailing, banana boats, and travelling musicians. Our son went parasailing which was 25$ for 10 minutes, those guys were very busy and had things down to a science, perfect landings! We went to the a la carte restaurant twice and the Italian meals were very good with excellent service. The staff really strive for you to enjoy yourself and relax. We had no problem or line up to make reservations, wish we had gone more there. The Chill lounge, night club was comfortable, mostly beds to relax on, but the music was played way too loud!! It was impossible to talk there and mainly complaints that the music went past 2am, very loud. We did get used to it but bring earplugs. Ixtapa was a wonderful place and I will definitely go back there. I would stay again at Park Royal. The one negative would be the time share people at the elevator exit. They were friendly but sometimes annoying. We were grateful to have our Westjet Rep. named Ulysis who was a great help, very friendly, non-demanding and reassuring to help ease any concerns we had. Overall Had a great time!!

Room Tip: King size bed rooms have the best view but the loudest music!

“We will be back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012 via mobile

We had the best vacation at Park Royal Ixtapa. The staff was always friendly, helpful and courteous. The resort is very clean. We enjoyed the food and were surprised the selection was better than at other Park Royal resorts we stayed in. However, the birds if you sit outside for breakfast are thiefs if you leave food on your table and were a bit annoying. We also enjoyed the excellent service at the Pescador from Adrian and one other waiter. The live music at lunch and in the evening was fabulous. Alycia, the waitress in the lobby was very good too. The nightclub on the beach is the best. We also enjoyed the bike tour through the conservation park and borrowed the bikes for several of our own excursions. That was a nice feature. We drank too many chango sucios and felt that all alcoholic beverages were free poured and not watered down as in some other resorts. We took several day excursions and really enjoyed the countryside tour where we went to Petatlan, Xihuacan (archeological site), Barra dePacotas. It was a full day with amazing memories. Some reviews said the beds were too hard. They were firm and not a problem for us as we slept very well. We had to ask to get moved due to strong smells of paint where they were renovating down the hall. We were very happy to be moved to the top floor corner where we had views of both directions on the beach and a very large balcony. We plan to return in January!

“park royal ixtapa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

Just got back from Park Royal Ixtapa, We went as a group of 21 ages from 19-55,. Had a great time, Arrival was fast, Everyone at front desk great. We were given our rooms, called down for bed topper, it arrived within minutes. Food was good too. buffet is just that a buffet, it changes everyday. Italian was fantastic, however much too much food to eat, Second time I just had antipasta and entree much better. Pescador for lunch was fantastic. Bartenders were wonderful never without a smile, were willing to learn new drinks. All enjoyed disco at night, wish karoke would have been held at the disco hall and held for a longer period. Walking distance to Sr. Frogs and others. Taxi to Zihua 6.00. All and all it was a great time, we are booking for Cozumel next year and you will find us at the "Park Royal"

“Very relaxing but a little disappointed...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2012

We recently stayed at the Park Royal, Ixtapa Mexico....March 5th thru the 12th...ask to be on the 18th floor or higher...we've stayed here 4 other times and must say that we have always had the BEST service from all the staff! Everyone is always willing to help, answer questions and do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible! The staff was constantly cleaning, dusting and polishing making sure that the hotel was in tip top shape. The food was wonderful....we enjoyed the many different fish choices in the Pescador restaurant and the buffet was also delicious, especially the made to order omlets in the morning. We had burgers and chicken sandwiches at the snack bar for lunch that we good also. One disappointment we had was starting on Thursday many families moved into the hotel with children running around with no adult supervision...they also allowed the children to sit up at the swimup bar in the pool taking places that truely should have been for adults in my opinion. Luckily they checked out on Sunday so we had the rest of that day to relax before we had to leave on Monday. We visited with other visitors that had been there for 3 weeks and they told us that this is the way it is every weekend. There was a wedding at our hotel which was quite interesting to watch being set up, the staff worked so hard to make it so beautiful!! We never had a problem getting a chair either in the shade, by the pool or on the beach. We were told that tourism was down about 30%. Another thing that we did not like was that the disco music went so late into the night and was very very VERY loud, even with our patio door shut we could feel and hear the beat of the music and as I stated we were on the 18th floor (the floors start at 10)...we would have preferred to sleep with our patio door open and listen to the sound of the ocean waves coming it. We were also very disappointed with our Apple Vacation rep who did not show up all week, we would have booked a fishing trip and the sunset catamaran tour with him but we did it on our own. We ate outside of the hotel one night at Tabasco Rib which we would STRONGLY discourage anyone from eating there, they had poor service and the beef rib (thats right ONE rib) was very tuff, we couldn't eat it but still ended up paying for it. All in all, it was a very relaxing vacation and will go back to Ixtapa but might try a different hotel next year.

Room Tip: Ask to have a room on the 18th floor or higher with ocean view!

“Kid Friendly...But.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

If you love kids this is the place!
Expect LOTS of kids on the weekends and they take over the pool. And they are in the pool all day! Knocking drinks over into the pool and who knows what else.
We were there for 2 weeks In early Feb and starting on Thursday through Sunday the kids kept pouring in. In order to get away from them we down to the beach.. which is wonderful.
Rating:
This property is rated as a Gold Crown... it is NOT.
CLEAN:
This property is VERY clean. Everywhere you turn someone is cleaning something.
The reason why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 was due to the property being so clean.
Beds:
I read the other review about the beds being hard... well yes, they are very firm, but we found them suitable for sleeping. Because of the other review about the beds, I brought a foam pad down in my husbands golf bag and did not need it.
Food:
Overall, I would give the food a rating from bad to awful.
Breakfast:
The cafeteria style buffett is just ok. There are lots of fruits to choose from and usually pancakes or waffles (hard) to choose from. The beset thing about breakfast is the lady that makes the to-order omelets. They were great and the best meal of the day.
Lunch:
There is a beach side self-serve cafeteria.. food here is just ok to bad. The fish (to order) is sometimes served uncooked (CAUTION). The food in the cafeteria is not always the best..hot food is not always hot. The meats are too tough to cut and sometimes are still raw in the middle. They do serve some sort of salad at lunch, they are often the best choice. You can order Fry's and they are pretty good. There is a hamburger hut and they are often the best choice for lunch. Most days there are 3 musicians that play during lunch.. they are the best thing about this hotel. I looked forward to hearing them every day.
Dinner:
There are 2 options for dinner.
First: The cafeteria:
They have a different food theme for dinner each night (week rotation) and the cafeteria style goes from just ok to bad. Sometimes your food is served warm and sometimes not. You can usually find one thing that you will like...but don't bet on it.
The Italian Restaurant:
What a joke! Men must wear long pants and closed toed shoes. No kids allowed. You must make a reservation....however the restaurant is often empty. They try to make this up-scale...what a joke. The food here goes from bad to very very bad. The best thing was the salad bar, and the soups....everything else may not be suitable to eat. Even the "special" is awful. Service is VERY slow.. so it will take you a long time to eat your awful dinner. When we ate here it was soup and salad for dinner, because everything else was awful.
Bar service
They have several bars on the property which make it easy to get a drink. Interesting, that with all the drinking we never saw anyone drunk, which suggests to me that the drinks were watered down.
ROOM:
Most rooms are small junior suites.. with a VERY small balcony. All rooms face the ocean.
We lucked out an got room 1711-1712, which was a very large corner room with a large balcony. We were able to enjoy the view the ocean and beach...full panorama. The beds were on one side and the living area was on the other side. Two bathrooms, two sets of closets, two showers. With a couch that opened up to sleep 2 more people. It was great that we had all this space for just the two of us.
Room Up-grades
Do not get fooled by this little comment. Their "upgrading the rooms" means nothing more then new tile on the floor and bathroom. They were "up-grading" some of the rooms on our floor... a real joke! Though the new floor tile did look nicer.
Activities:
Water aerobics was the best.. the instructor was very good... and you got a wonderful workout. There was water volleyball, and dancing. Nighttime activities, they had some games and Karaoke night. A few times during the week the musicians sang. They were the best! I always looked forward to them, they had a full range of music selections... very nice.
The Beach
Very nice beach, great waves to play in. Easy access, lots of palapas for shade.
Overall
Would would NOT come back to this hotel. If they eliminated the all inclusive fee, then we'd think about it... and if we could stand all the kids.
Please read all the comments about this hotel... you will find them to all be true!

Room Tip: Try to get one of the corner rooms.. the higher floors were " up-graded"
