“A great Honeymoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We actually did the 5 Square deal with Apple vacations and with this deal we had no idea what hotel we were staying at until we checked in at the airport. We were guaranteed a 5+ hotel. When we got to the airport we checked in with the apple rep after getting our boarding passes and at first my husband seemed disappointed that it wasn't some other hotel.
This hotel had remarkable service, Antonio, our server while hanging out at the pool was always checking in with us. He was been with this hotel for 17 years. That has to say something right there!!!
Dinners were good to great. Breakfast buffet has to be the best meal of the day. Lunch was not really our favorite. There is an Italian restaurant that offers up great Italian food, and amazing service. Three people to a table, at least.
There was great shopping to be had, both downtown Zihuatanejo and nearby the hotel. Beware of the huts on every block trying to get you to sign up for everything from Para sailing to horse back riding.
Try to get down to the pool area early to get your spots, they fill up fast. Most every day we headed down at 5:00 am to place our towels, by the time 8 am came around the resort was filled. And don't leave your towels unattended for more than 2 hours. They will walk around the pool early and take names and room #'s. If you have not been in your spot they will give your spot to another guest. They warn you, politely, and then make the decision to take action if necessary.
I know that everyone thinks that they need to have an ocean view from there room. But, really how much time do you think you will be spending up in that room? the best view of the ocean is from the beach chairs outside. We passed on the upgrade. It didn't hurt our honeymoon one little bit.
Rooms were always well taken care of. The fridge was always full and our maid always came in, 2x a day, once to clean up and once to turn down our bed. We left her a box of Girl Scout cookies on our last morning their.
Tipping is always a good idea. Tip the guy who fills your fridge, the maid who cleans up after you and the servers that take care of you when you sit down to eat. Its amazing what a dollar will do for you verses nothing!
We walked across the street one night to check out the night life and it was pretty dead. and it felt like many of the shops and restaurants have closed down over the last few years. It was still worth the walk and site seeing.
I recommend this resort for Families and Couples, this is not a singles kind of resort. I was very happy not to see people puking next to me or tripping all over the pool.
They had activities everyday and did not over do them. None excluded anyone, and included everyone.
If you like to get up and workout, they have a decent gym.but you will need to get their early. I think we worked out at 6 AM every morning.
If you want amazing massages, head out to the beach and go to the left. Hut #1, those women had the best hands and elbows ever! We paid 15 USD to get 1 hour!!
When checking out, sadly I might add, we filled out a small survey and we were off. I recommend passing on the Apple Vacations Bus ride to the airport, you will get there faster in a cab.
This hotel was the busiest on the entire strip. We walked up and down the beach everyday to see what might be going on at other hotels and all of them looked empty.
we loved most all of it. and I know that we will be back again!
LOVED IT!

This was a wonderful hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend it. Their standards are very high. Others whom I spoke with were equally impressed. We were waited on hand and foot for a week. The staff are there for every need. Canadians could learn a few lessons on how to run a hotel from this one. The design, layout and architecture were functional and impressive. The food in the six restaurants was superbly prepared, expertly served and delicious. A seventh place to eat, the Barefoot Grill was there for times when we wanted to eat in our bathing suits. Three places, The Bluewater Grill, the Gohan Sushi restaurant and the Oceana were amazing for dinner. Located right next to the beach, with the waves crashing, and a beautiful sunset, we sat down at an elegant table with fine linen, wine and a great choice of stuffed fish, New York steak, chicken stuffed with proscuitto, sailfish in a peanut crust. The staff were hard at work raking fallen leaves, polishing the elevator windows, setting up for evening entertainment and cleaning the pool day and night. It was wonderful to have everything included. We took the bicycle tour along to the marina with a stop at the Delphinarium on the way back. There was a great swim up bar at the pool where we ordered lots of smoothies. They were pouring the finest of Whiskies, rums and other drinks. We loved swimming in the ocean using a Boogie board I purchased across the street. The waves were big when we were there so we stayed close to shore. Every room in hotel has a view of the ocean. The windows are floor to ceiling. It was great to watch the waves from our balcony. We took advantage of some of the things to do outside the hotel: a trip to Ixtapa Island for snorkelling, a trip to see the archeological ruins and museum at Xihuacan, horseback riding on playa Largo. What a fabulous experience to be galloping over the sand on a deserted beach with coconut palms on one side and the waves on the other. We had such a great time that this is a standout of all our experiences travelling all over the world. Bravo to the staff and management.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have a good view of the ocean. Our room was higher up, so that made it even better...

My family and I stayed at Sunscape from 17 March to 24 March. We arrived and were instantly wowed by the friendly and attentive staff. Check in was quick and easy even though we arrived a few hours before actual check-in time. Our children were given juice and cookies while they waited for us to get keys. The whole property is absolutely stunning. Clean, bright and perfect lay out. Our room (partial ocean, 2 double beds) was more than enough room for our family of 4. The bathroom was large, clean and beautiful shower with seat. The pools were perfect, we all had fun on the water slides. It was nice to have a smaller pool for our son that was close enough that our older child could play on the slides and we could still keep her in sight. The explorer club was a huge hit for our kids. Yuri and Oreo are two of the kindest and funnest women you will ever meet. Our kids miss them dearly. We enjoyed family time by day and then the kids would watch a movie or do crafts in the explorer club while my husband and I would have a nice supper together. It was perfect! Then we would all meet up afterwards for a beautfiul stroll on the beach. The resteraunts were all delicious. Breakfast was a fast and easy buffet with many options for all ages. Lunch at the main resteraunt was casual enough that you could easily walk out of thes pool/waves, dry, throw on a dress and grab a table. Food there was great, the chips and salsa were always a big hit and they have a decent kids menu with many options. As for supper, we were blown away time and time again. Da Marios's unfortunately does not allow children (so use the kids club) but if you get a chance it is well worth it. Incredible food, service, atmosphere...just perfect. Oceana was our fav with the whole family because of the location overlooking the beach. Food there was always delicious but what was most impressive was the outstanding service! Saul was always there willing to bend over backwards for us. One meal our son fell asleep on my lap and Saul came over and made a bed for him out of two chairs and some pillows from the pool deck. We were overwhelmed by his kindness. We ended up just ordering room service one night for supper as it was late and the kids were tired. While the menu was not large, it had enough items that we were all satisfied and it was nice to have a glass of wine and dessert in the room after the kids fell asleep. We had a partial view on the 14th floor but it was breathtaking nontheless and listening to the waves crash was so peacefull. We all slept wonderfully each night. The beach is perfect for anyone of any age. It stretches forever and has beautiful sand. Great for running, playing, sand castle making, sun bathing, whatever. I definitely recommend the massage huts down the beach and of course parasailing. We set up a fishing charter through Noah (sp?) at the resort and it was one of the most incredibly experiences. We fished our way to Ixtapa Island where they unloaded our catch (8 black fin tuna) and prepared them for us while we played on the beach. On our way back to the marina we caught more tuna and a mahi mahi. It was a perfect day full of memories that will last a lifetime. Overall we have absolutely no complaints about our time at the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico. Every second there was that of utter relaxation and joy. Our kids age 3 and 8 enjoyed every activity offered and never did we feel that they were unwelcome at the resort. That is the beauty of sunscape, it is a perfect family reort and a perfect couples resort, perfect party resort, perfect retired resort....it has something for everyone and never do you feel out of place. A few important shout outs go to our gorgeous barista at coco's cafe who served us countless mocha's always with a beautfiul picture on top, Saul at Oceana, Raymundo at the beachside bar and most special to our heart is Rebeka (sp?). Our son slipped on the pool deck on our first day and both of his feet were pretty roughed up on the tops, so bad that he did not want to walk for the first few days. When she saw his feet she told us she had something to make him better. Her english was not great so she had someone help her translate. The next day she brought us a tube of ointment (kind of like polysporin) and she gave it to us to use on his feet. This was monumental not only because we know for a fact how expensive this cream was but also because it meant so much to our son. That night we put it on his feet and the next morning his feet were 20 times better and he was happy to walk around. The cream we had purchased the day before had only left his feet more irritated. She went out of her way and far beyond her job requirements to help us heal our son. Kindness like that is hard to come by. We are so impressed and grateful to each member of the sunscape staff. I think those in the tourism industry north of mexico could use some training from the people at the sunscape resort! We will without hesitation recommend this resort to all of our friends and family. Thank you Sunscape, you made our family vacation more than we ever could have asked for! :)

Overall the hotel was beautiful and the staff very friendly. I will first say I agree with all the comments about the chairs at the pool. To get up at 4:30 to save a chair was a bit crazy. If you wait until 7:00, you can still get a chair, but you wont get any shade. Trust me, you want shade!!! If you wait until after 9:00, you will NOT get a lounge chair.

The hotel only seemed to only have air conditioning in the rooms, This was great for the room, but the rest of the areas were hot. I don't know about you, but after scorching in the blazing 90 heat all day some air would be great at dinner for us. As far as the room, you have to leave your room key in the little slot to make the electricity work. The maids take it out, so when you come to your room it is not always cool. Once you turn it on, the air has to start all over to keep the room cool.

Speaking of dinner, the food was surprisingly good. I know with all inclusive resorts, this is a gamble, but this one was good. The drinks were really sweet and somehow they never make it taste the same twice, oh well, its a drink. The beer is Modelo and is good, but it is no Miller :)

Be wary of the elevators. There are 4 of them and they have a mind of their own. If you push more than 3 buttons, the elevator will freak out and cancel all requests. Some of the elevators get stuck once in a while and then sky rocket you to the top floor. It was like a Willie Wonka elevator.

Apple says it is a 5+ golden, maybe compared to the others in Ixtapa it is, but I would say it is more like a 4+ at best.

Our recent stay at this resort was highlighted by the conscientious, hard-working staff. The expanse of the beach, proximity to markets, restaurants and Ziha are all notable. The check-in process was quick and efficient, and we were taken up to our room right away. We opted for a partial view of the ocean and also got a great view of the forests and mountains inland. The room was a decent sized and the bathroom updated with a large shower. We found everything clean and fresh (the floors are mopped daily). We were on the 21st floor and spent time waiting for elevators, but had no issues with them. All the eateries were very good, from the formal De Mario's to Coco's. The drinks, alcoholic or otherwise, were tasty and plentiful. The pool lounge chair senerio was frustrating while a +200 radio/football fan group was there, and the facility eventually came up with a new policy that allowed others to enjoy the area as well (see details in a review dated March 10). Frankly, are you truly on vacation if your partner makes you get up at 5 am to secure the same place for your butts every day? The Entertainment Staff are like energizer bunnies and seriously go all day (and evening) long. They're fun and engaging. The night life doesn't start until about midnight, so despite plans to get down and wild, it didn't happen! The disco is very loud; keeping the balcony doors closed and the a/c on enabled a good night's rest. I like a firm bed, and with our busy days in the hot sun, we had no problems with getting a good sleep. The days were humid and sunny, usually with a breeze and evenings mild and comfortable. We enjoyed watching and hearing the massive breakers. Also, the local birds (Great-tailed Grackle, Snowy Egret, Willet, Curlew, Vultures, etc) are entertaining if you're into birding.
We attended the orientation meeting with our tour rep and declined to attend the vacation club session. We were not bothered with that again.
Tip - wear sunscreen! The intensity of the sun obviously surprises people. We saw major red skin and first-degree burns walking about.

I enjoyed my stay at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico-Ixtapa. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. I can relate to the frustration expressed in a previous review regarding the amount of seating at the pool/beach area. My party had very similar experiences but we were on vacation and made the most of the situation. A couple of complaints that I would have are the fact that most of the people in my party were couples, however, they had rooms with double beds. When a request was put in for King beds there were none available. Another complaint would be the temperature of some of the food. Many items were luke-warm at best.
If you are looking to party all night this would not be the resort for you. Although there is a bar open until 1AM there isn't much of a night life. Near the resort are a few bars/clubs if you are looking for some night life while on vacation.
This resort was rated as a 5 Star Gold. I wouldn't go that far but it was a nice resort with outstanding staff and I would stay at the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa in the future.

We received the best customer service from every single employee we encountered the week of 3/9/13 to 3/16/13. Customer service is very important to us and we were so thankful for the consistent above and beyond service we received. We especially enjoyed Syrie (?spelling?) in the CoCo Café, Simon who always had a smile on his face in the swim up bar area and Antonio who provided superior poolside service. Antonio was always hustling trying to keep people hydrated. We very much enjoyed the food at Sunscape. We did not eat at the sit down restaurants at night because we were usually still full from our lunch at the Blue Water Grill. The Chef Salad at the Blue Water Grill was awesome and my husband loved the fish with mushroom sauce. Even with those positives we will not be returning to the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico. The poolside and beach chaise/chair situation was so frustrating!!! It created such a tense and negative environment for guests. Some people were outwardly upset and directed their frustration toward other guests because they didn’t get the same chairs as the day before, didn’t get a chair at all or they didn’t get a table or umbrella. There are not enough chaise lounge/chairs by the pool or on the beach nor do they have room to add additional chairs. You practically were sitting on top of each other as it is. I do recognize they asked us for our room number in the morning to document which seats we were using. Beyond that there was no validation if the chairs that were saved were used or not. It was evident that some of the chairs saved with towels were empty the first 3-4 hours of the morning if used at all. Since Sunscape became an all-inclusive resort, people are sticking around to eat/drink more than when it was not all-inclusive. My husband went down to the pool each day at 6:45 am so he was there for 7:00 am when he could get us two chairs. It was amazing how many chairs were saved. One day my husband couldn’t sleep so he went for a walk about 5:15 am. He was shocked at the number of chairs that were saved already. We relaxed by the side of the pool the night before until 10:30 pm. There were no chairs saved when we went back to the room so when are people saving these chairs. Not a great situation and it pits one guest against another and not our idea of a relaxing vacation. We will; however, return to Ixtapa. It was our first trip and we felt very safe. The Sunscape Dorado Pacifico is blessed to have such caring, kind and dedicated employees. They were amazing. We found a great sports bar, The Generals. The Generals was very clean and the food was exceptional. We enjoyed shrimp and lobster pizza one visit and the shrimp and lobster tacos the second visit. Both meals arrived timely, the temperature of the food was warm and the quality of food was tasty. We went back a third time to drink some cold beers and watch the Wisconsin Badgers basketball game. There were so many TVs to choose from we had no problems seeing the game. We especially appreciate the service we received by Freddy, Noah and the General.
