“A Week in the Sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

This was our first experience of an all-inclusive holiday, which was booked mainly because of having my elderly mother-in-law with us and we therefore decided to keep things straight-forward in terms of holiday, meals etc. If you have children this is a good place to come, as there are many activities and things for them to do. Having said that, there is also plenty for adults to occupy themselves with, such as beach volleyball and football (soccer) and the very nice spa - I also had Spanish lessons! The Entertainments Team work very hard to make sure guests enjoy there stay.

First time there and it was really good. The food was excellent at all venues and they changed it up as we were there 2 wks and never got bored with the food. The hotel was well kept and clean and the entertainment staff were very good at trying to get everyone doing things and so much fun to be with. The pools were small and when the weekends were busy it was quite crowded but we also enjoyed the ocean and could get past the first couple waves then it was calm. Beach staff kept the area clean, the desk staff were very helpful and no matter what you wanted they got it. The lobby bar was very good our favorite waitress is now on maternity leave but she was very good. This is a very good resort and would go again to it. The only draw back was the people in the lobby trying to get you to go to a 2 hr. promo event and they were annoying especially when we said no. They should not have so many and make it more interesting if they want people to attend, but 2 hrs is way too long for what.

Room Tip: Most have an ocean view, maybe not full but we don't hang out in the room much.

first time in ixtapa and loved every minute of it. the sunscape was very nice. room was on the 17th floor and had "partial" view of ocean, which means you can still see the water. check-in fast and informative, only bad thing is the unlimited vacation club reps. they try to sucker you into a breakfast and than a presentation, don't bother with these people, get your vacation started.. the housekeeping was outstanding, cleaned every morning about the same time. after we got back from dinner everynight the bed turned down, bottle of cold water and music playing..nice touch..food at all the restraunts was great, service at times alittle slow, but who cares, what else do you have to do but relax. all the bars were good, never crowded. ask for premium liquor in your drinks. pool and beach service was quick and always there. pool was very nice, 84*.. and yes on the weekends the mexicans flock this and all the resorts there, i didn't mind they were all very nice and we made some amigos there, they are there for the same reason, to relax and spend time with their familes. we never had a problem getting a chair on the beach or pool.. ok now the beach, i've been on over 20 all-inclusive beach trips and this beach is one of the best EVER! not one rock, seaweed, or peice of garbage, spotless. the sand is darker so it does get hotter in the afternoon. the ocean water was clear, 5 foot waves and warm 85* great swimming..we also took local bus, 10 pesos to zihuatanejo. fun morning trip to this sleepy old mexican fishing town. go to 5th avenue that is were all the "flea market" stores are. you can bargain with them and get some good deals... parasail on beach infront of sunscape, $20.00us, very good deal. massage down the beach $15.00us for one hour, this is a great deal..we also did bike tour from resort, 40 minute ride to marina and back, do the 9:00a.m. tour, too hot in afternoon. the average temp. during the day was 94*. so if you like it hot, perfect beach, good food and lots of mexicans this is the place for you... WE ARE PLANNING ON GOING BACK NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

Room Tip: all the rooms are good

Just got back from a week at Sunscape. Had booked the vacation with my travel agent using Apple Vacation. There was no mention of this being a timeshare property on there site. Also had upgraded the room to deluxe ocean view, a $91/pp cost. Also had a $200 credit to use at the hotel for the spa or for bottles of wine at dinner through Apple, had it in writing. Got to the hotel and was informed to receive the $200 credit would have to sit through a time share presentation one morning. There was no mention of that in the Apple material we received. Also the room was a partial view, if you looked to the right you had a view of the ocean. Hotel next door blocked some of the view. Did inform the Apple rep and hotel manager and was told no other room available with King Bed. Informed them it was not the room I paid for. English is not understood to well in Ixtapa. I was told by other Americans and Canadians that we do not get the rooms we are promised and that the deluxe ocean view rooms go to the local visitors. The timeshare people do try and get you when you walk through the lobby every time. No eye contact and state do not understand.
As far as the resort goes. Room was nice and cleaned every day. Leave the key in to run the air condition all the time, put it on 60 and than keep the curtain closed during the day while you are out. Room was nice and cool for us. Everyone else had warm rooms no matter what they did. We got lucky. Food was great. Went to every restaurant- food was good at all of them. My favorite ones for night time- Oceana, Da Mario and the Bluewater Grill. Stuff to do all day at the resort, the entertainment staff was good. Highly recommend the biking at 9 am.
Do remember this is a local vacation spot. Buses arrive Thursday morning filled with vacationers from Mexico City, and I do mean a lot of buses. They take over the resort Thursday through Sunday afternoon. Be aware they do not seem to know what personal space is.
Noise can be a problem at night. Music from Senor Frogs across the street and also the other night clubs in the area. Sat night the music lasted until 5 am. Wed, Thurs and Friday music ended around 2 am. Bring ear plugs!!!!
Locals understand very little English so learn Spanish before you go or have someone in the group who is fluent, it would help.

went to sunscape for a family holiday from dec 5-12, with 14 people. check in was quick and the cool cloth and glass of punch was very nice touch! we booked a couple famiky rooms, which were nice, and 2 basic rooms, which were just that basic. in my opinion, during low season to give best rooms available to encourage return visit. overall everything was nice, typical mexican time of restaurants opening at 7, but it really means 720. with a large family of young kids, 7 is way too late. dress code is upheld here, so we were shocked to be turned away for dinners, its not like we were naked, it was dress shorts should be pants, and tshirt should have been collared shirt. but these issues can be easiky fixed with some training, and some lieneance since this is our vacation. but what they lacked in exicution they made up for in customer service.
my husband was seriously injured in the ocean, a lifeguard on duty was very observant and out of the 100 people in the ocean, saw my disstress instantly. on shore my husband couldnt feel his arms or legs, they had a backboard and neckbrace within minutes, and much staff gathered around to help carry him to ambulance and comfort my family, pedro and rebecca to name a few. at ambulance, pedro introduced me to rene lopez, he would come and act as translator for me. he worked as the consierge at hotel. rene didnt leave our side for hours. he even ran out to get my sister cloths since she was just in swimsuit. he helped contact my travel insurance. in short he was a god send! in the nightmare that followed, he would do something that would give me faith in mankind again. he would stop by the clinic before and after his shift to check on us, bring fruit baskets, and ask if there was anything he could do. he offered to drive me and or my family to the clinic after his shift. when they finally arranged a medivac out he gave me his personal phone number and email, and told me he would have family come help out in guatelahara. he is truly an amazing person and employee and will succeed in all he strives for. sunscape should do all in his power to keep him in thier employ because he is generak manager material easily! and if sunscape doesnt see this, someone else will.
we were only 2 days into our vacation when this happened, and i spent the other 5 nights in the hospital, but everytime i came to check on my kids, or change cloths every staff member asked about the welfare of my husband, everyone truly cared.
sothe time i spent there was good, some quirks, but those can be easily fixed. but with the care and attention given by especially rene, and so many other staff i wouldnt have wanted to be anywhere else. i am sorry i cant remember all the names of everyone who asked or comforted me in my time of need, there was ro many! would i go back? in a heartbeat, i would love to come again for the vacation i missed out on, and to celebrate my husbands life, and recovery with all those that helped out. hopefully one day soon. because i came for a vacation, and truly feel like i got a extended family. muchas gracious rene, we cant wait to meet again!! and muchas gracious sunscape, it is truly my pleasure!

Room Tip: family room worth extra money for space!

This was the best trip ever!!!! We went first week of December and stayed for 5 nights. The weather and location were great! EVERYTHING was absolutely fabulous. The room was nice and clean with a great ocean view upgrade we paid a little extra for. The hotel staff was very very nice and genuine. They truly wanted your experience to be the best. There was Oscar who worked there and he was great!! The food was fabulous. Every restaurant felt like a five star meal and service. After we returned we could not stop saying how this trip was great.
Also, I wanted to add that there wasn’t one second that we didn't feel safe. This hotel as well as the location was VERY VERY safe. The variety of restaurants and food options were great. The menus were wonderful! We did not try the SPA but it looked very clearn and nice. Definitely we will be returning to this hotel in the near future!

This was my first time in Ixtapa and I was glad to stay at Sunscape. The rooms are nice, roomy and clean. The food and premium alcoholic drinks are good. Daily drink and food specials. A couple of complaints: after checking in you get the, come sit over here and lets give you coupons for discounts on spa services, bottles of wine or dinner on the beach speech along with come to a breakfast and listen to our spiel. The other concern was loud music which I finally figured out was from across the street at a night club. Another guest had even changed rooms and then was going to go and try and find ear plugs - always good to bring! The music wasn't every night or until early in the morning but it did happen three days in a row. All the staff is wonderful!
