“Best Value For Money Trip We Have Ever Taken”

WOW, service, service, service, wherever you go in this hotel, you are looked after. From the childcare facilities to the pool side waiters.
The food is good, not the best, but there is always something. My kids (2&3) always found something to eat including the ice cream that isnt with the desserts but just ask the waiter and they will bring you some no problem, it was great.
True, there are lots of local Mexicans staying there, all were friendly but hello, we are in Mexico. The food and entertainment was catered towards them but always english translation and english speaking animation team.
Rooms were good, always clean, with a towel animal of flowers on the bed when you return in the evening, leave the maid a tip and she will turn down your bed and leave a chocolate for you at night too.
This hotel is awesome for kids, waterpark, child pool, flintstones land were great, and the beach was ok too. My kids dont care what colour the sand is, it still makes castles!!! Security was good, never seen so many lifeguards. Water wings are there too. Pool towels are always clean and warm,
The hotel is a timeshare resort, the guys are there at the bottom of the escalator to tempt you onto the tour, they are harmless, funny guys, not the sharks that they have been branded in other reviews. Michael C (aka Simon Cowell) showed us round the resort and even made arrangements in Spanish for my husband to see a dentist for his toothache.
Costa Azul and Oyster Bar are a must, food and service amazing. Premium drinks served at every bar around the resort, and tipping is not expected as said in previous reviews either.

One Downside, the evening entertainment venue is located outdoors, no nearby bar and lots of steps which was no good for our double stroller. I hope that this will be addressed before our next visit.

Overall, a great family holiday.

Room Tip: We stayed in 1908, good floor but no balcony, 1909 did have a balcony. The rooms are not on the 19th...

This hotel is no longer called melia. When we arrived on march 23 the hotel name was changed. Once we got there I new I would not like this resort. We went to our room with our luggage and the room was ok with ocean view rooms, but when we started to walk around the resort it was all local people no americans at all. We went to all three resturants and they had fish only and the same food in all the resturants. Our kids did not want fish so they didnt eat. At the snack bar outside it was dirty. Tables we dirty garbage on the ground it was nasty. We got our money back and went to sunscape dorado resort. This hotel was a nice resort more americans and Canadians. The resturants had good food and good service. Belive me when I say dont stay there. We travel in mexico a lot and this was the worse resort I ever booked. Dont make the same mistake as I did. I almost forgot the beach is ugly the sand is horrible and dirty. The other hotel had nice sand and water seemed better.

Room Tip: Dont stay here period

This hotel was horrible. We were hoping this would like all the other all-inclusive mexican vacations we have taken. We were so wrong. This hotel was 95% locals that were sold their rooms at a discounted rate. The food at this hotel was terrible at best! We went to dinner one night and ended up taking a cab to get some real food. The beach was wet black sand and not a beach you can lay out on or have your kids play in the sand. When we checked in another couple was leaving the resort to go to a different resort. We should have listened. Yes the rooms were clean and all rooms had a beach view but you are in a cove and the beach was black flagged everyday. Do NOT stay at this hotel!

We are a family of four who visited the Melia Azul Ixtapa in Jan 2010. We had a fantastic holiday.
Hotel: Great service and amenities. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Excellent decor and very clean.
Beach: Nice. Very swimmable. Dark sand with sparkling mica in it and big waves at times, but it is in a bay so not rough.
Pools: Huge and gorgeous. There is a kiddie waterpark and parents are able to use it too. Great fun for the little ones.
Rooms: We had fantastic connecting balcony rooms. All rooms overlook the ocean which is great. Our room had a king bed and our kids' room had two doubles, both with their own bathrooms, flat screen tv's, mini-fridges, balconies etc. This was considered a Junior Suite and they are huge with plenty of room for everything.
Restaurants: The Costa Azul was exceptionally good. They made a real ceasar salad in front of us. The Oyster bar was a beautiful way to have dinner - on the water while watching the sunset and the food was great. Regular buffets were good too.
To do: We found there was plenty to do. The entertainment staff was great. We participated in a few activities and one we really enjoyed was the rifle shooting. Not sure if they still have it.
The shows in the evening were really awesome and kid-friendly. Well rehearsed with great costumes and very entertaining.
Outside the resort we took the local bus (just for the experience) and wandered around the shops and market. It was great! On the bus back we met jorge (George). In chatting with him we found out he worked at the end of the beach (beach is public) offering horse back riding, which we did. Riding along the beach was great fun for all of us.
Overall: A fantastic trip. There was no downside. We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: If you are a family choose the Junior suite with connecting doors.

As a family, we go to all inclusive resorts twice a year. This was a trip for my husbands 50th b-day. It could not have been more perfect. All rooms r ocean view, the food (which I am VERRRRY picky about) was awesome, the room n resort were very clean, n the service was amazing. The only downside was that we were not informed when certain restaurants n bars would be closed. This was very inconveinient. Apart from that, n NEVER flying with Canjet (no fault of the resort) we will be going back to Azul very soon! I highly recomend this resort, especially to families cuz they have an amazing Flintstones theme park n water slides for the kids, to people who r picky about food, n people who like their drinks premium. Eg. Bacardi n Smirnoff!!!

ok vacation pretty much sums it up. Upon arrival you will be met at the airport by the usual ,can we help with your bags people. They are not as aggressive as the ones in the Dominican,so just walk on by.
To get to the resort, its a milk run with many other resorts on the same bus and as it is the last resort to get to its about 45minutes.
The check in desk wasn't that big a deal and staff do their best.Yes they speak english but it helps if you know Spanish.
The rooms are tidy and up to date (no bed bugs, checked right away). its wise to get the upgrade with the balcony (10' X 16' approx.) no issues with the room.

The pool area consists of 3 pools at different levels. The last lower pool has the swim up bar. One issuse of course is do not book your vacation one week before the Canadian March break as it is the Mexican March brerak, think....recess and water wings in the pool area. Great if your a family, but kind of loses its charm in 30 seconds as a couple.

Ahh,yes the time share sharks, but they are not time shares, yeah, yeah. they do their damnedest to get you to sign up.It was our first time ever going through that and never again. They tour you through the tower, show you a room, then downstairs to seal the deal. It took 3 different sales guys to go through us to try and sell us on the shares....Uh no. plus almost 2 hrs of our time. Just avoid them.

Tipping, although it is up to you to tip,it is also encouraged,2 american for restaurant service and 3 american on the bed for hotel staff (the maids do a good job and deserve it)
Overall annoyed that it is expected for service.

The resaurants, three to be exact. We we're on able to get into one and the rest were buffet. The buffets were pretty much the same everyday. The Oyster Bar has fantastic food and would recommend getting a reservation right away. The other two,one was closed and the last one we couldn't get into at all.

The beach area is clean hard packed sand with life guards on duty. The usual hucksters are on the beach and a short walk to the beach market which opens up to a much longer beach. Safety didn't seem like an issue here, but always be aware, your not in Kansas as you travel further away from the resort area.

Shopping In Ixtapa. Prices will vary but better than the hotel. A local bus trip to Zihuatanejo is worth it as far as selection in the market. Theres a ton of vendors here but carry "Pesos"
The market area is safe to walk around in but bare in mind you are in their town now, smart traveler, don't flash money or wear jewlery.don't make yourself a mark.
Overall satisfaction,it was ok but not fantastic. This is the quiet area of Mexico,if you want to party,go to cancun, relax yes.

Room Tip: get the center tower with a balcony.

We went to this resort during much break, being March break it was very quite. The resort was beautiful the weather was great. If you plan on going to this resort the beach is not the greatest the sand is more like mud and the water can get very dirty because of the waves. There is an Island which cost 40 paesos per person the beach is clear water and very nice this is something that you should do.
The week we went was a holiday for the locals and it got very overwhelming, I found we almost had to fight for our food and loungers on the Sunday. I found that they catered to the locals quite a bit instead of the tourists. The service was great I have no comnplaints about the service. The A La Carte restaurants were great and the food was really good, our favourite was the Oyster bar if you like fish.
If you have small children there is a lot for the children to do, it does cater to smaller kids. I went with teenage kids and felt very safe lettting them stay up at night. I know there has been a lot of concern regarding ones safety in Mexico but I felt very safe at this resort. .
If I had to say anyhting bad about this resort it would be that I was a little disaapointed about the beach and thaI felt it did cater to the locals rather than the tourists. Other than that it was worth the price and I would go back again. It is rated a 41/2 and I would say that is a pretty fair rating.
