“Good Basic Accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for a week starting Dec 12, 2012. I admit that we did not have high expectations given some of the previous reviews, however we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel provided good, clean, basic accommodation, with good overall staff experiences. If you are a "5-star" type of person, then this place is not for you, however if you are looking for a relatively clean convenient place to stay, the Posada will meet your requirements. We are "seasoned" travellers and have stayed at all types of places, and this hotel compares well with other 3 star accommodations.

The hotel is popular with Mexican vacationers and if you are prepared to engage in experiencing a bit of Mexican family culture and practice your Spanish you will enjoy your stay. If you just want to hang out with other Canadians or Americans you may want to stay at one of the bigger resorts.

The infinity pool was excellent, albeit somewhat crowded at times and more tables with umbrellas around the pool are required. The food was basic and could use a little more variety. This wasn't an issue for us since we like to go out and try the local restaurants and bars. The room was on the small side, but was clean and cozy and everything in the room worked. We had a good view of the ocean, although there are no balconies.

Overall, this hotel is a decent budget hotel and is worth considering.

Room Tip: 4th floor, ocean view is good.

Chose this hotel based on reviews and the fact that we spent 2 weeks last fall at the Cabo Posada. Huge mistake...service was very slow ( and we tipped very well) ; every chair and lounger had bird crap on it so was difficult to find anywhere you wanted to sit. People eating, drinking and smoking in the pool so was not very clean...last couple of days avoided the pool all together due to the cloudyness and poor mainenance. Family area pool reopened 4 days before we left so at least that one was cleaner but no drink service at the pool area. Spanish Revolution holiday weekend busy but that was just for the weekend. We did opt for the all inclusive and because it was not busy during the week we could order off the menu but even that was weak. The only positive about this place is that it is right next door to the Dolphin pool so Carlos and Charlies has been closed for 5 years making it very quiet in the evenings. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone even if it was almost free! Wasted 10 days of our vacation there and once moved to the second leg at Zihuat we acutally could not say enough positive things.

Room Tip: No balcony in any of the rooms! First time ever to Mexico that we were not happy with the place we s...

The Posada Real is a great quiet hotel. Located right on the beach just away from the beach maddness. It has an "endless" pool with a great pool bar. Food and snacks are easy to order from the pool. A second pool is also available and is even quieter!! The restaurant is located also right near the ocean providing wonderful sights. Beautiful sunsets every evening. a great bar next to the restaurant providing all types of cocktails and several local beers. Rooms are not large, but provide a great air conditioned resting area complete with color cable TV. The hotel staf all are helpfull and couteous.
I have stayed here dozens of times and never once left with a bad visit!!!
Worth every dollar spent!!!

Room Tip: Lobby floor level: no stairs then!!! Easy access to pool / beach.

Great value. Nice size not huge Best pool on Ixtapa beach. Did I mention that front desk is about the unfriendliest in Mexico? But I'll stay again for the pool, staff, and restaurant. Two pools One for families and the other for adults.

We had stayed at the International Presidente and then the Pacifica and decided to give this smaller hotel a try based on other reviews. Upon seeing the room we knew we would not be staying. The safe is still a key style you wear around your neck (attractive on the beach)! The room keys are a braille like card that have the number clearly stated so basically if taken from a beach bag; room access is not a problem. The room itself had beat up walls a bathroom that had seen better days, a small window facing another building, the halls were dirty and well what can I say, we took a hit in losing one nights stay (with drinks inclusive) about $120 I believe but were happy to move back to the International Presidente down the beach. The location of this hotel is also further away from the main restaurants and shops in Ixtapa. Would definitely not recommend unless you care only about dollars saved.

This was our 3rd trip to Ixtapa and our 1st stay at this motel. We had no complaints. Rooms were clean, staff was very nice and helpful. We chose the drinks inclusive plan because we wanted to try all the good restaurants in Ixtapa and Zih. We usually go AI but always get tired of the food after a couple days, so this was a nice change for us. We did eat a few meals at the motel, but found them expensive compared to what you can get across the street. The only thing we missed was having a balcony. If you don't expect a 5* for a 3* price, then you will like this place.

Room Tip: we were in room 420. it is top floor ocean view!

I will never tire of the Posada Real Ixtapa. For now it is one of the few remaining hotels in the city that are not "all inclusive". Rooms are simple and clean. Hotel is quaint and friendly. Grounds and pools are very nice. Staff is great.

Ixtapa is a very easy city to get around in. If in decent shape you can walk to just about everything Ixtapa has to offer.

Can't wait for next year - though I will be staying alot longer!

Room Tip: Whenever ever staying at an ocean destination always if possible stay in an ocean view room. Though...
