“Our absolute favorite place to go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2010

We just got back from 15 wonderful days at the Intercontinental Presidente in Ixtapa. This was our 5th time there and are already checking prices and hope to go back in August for our 20th anniversary. The staff is wonderful and we have made many many friends there! We had a beautiful pool view room close to the pool bar and service from the pool waiters was exceptional! We had 2 days of torrential rain and the staff did everything they could to keep the guest entertained - it's not the resorts fault it decided to rain in Ixtapa in February - we heard people complaining - well it's their own fault if they can't find something to do! They opened the lobby bar and had games you could play and even gave the guests cards and dice to play if they wanted to!

Rooms are being upgraded - new bathtub and shower - in room safe - flat screen tv!

We would recommend the Intercontinental Presidente any day!

Can't wait to go back!

We just stayed at the Presidente the last week in January. We had a large group and our rooms were all in the same area. Immediately upon entering our room we noticed a musty smell, but opened the patio doors and let the fresh air in and never noticed it again. The service was fantastic no matter what area we were in. The drinks were delivered quickly at the swim up bar and the maids did a fantastic job and always had adorable little flower pictures on the pillows. The grounds were impeccably clean and beautiful. It is in a wonderful location. The beach is wonderful and at night you can hear the waves roll in while in your room. The concierge was always very helpful and spoke really good English. The only thing that I would say was not perfect was the food. We got rather tired of buffets with the same food, etc. that we went to many of the little restaurants across the street and always had good food. Ixtapa is a fun place to go and never disappoints us. The weather was perfect every day.

We just go back from El Presidente Hotel, and we were not terribly inpressed. For an "ALL INCLUSIVE" we expected to be wined and dined non stop. it was a shame the bars would not open until 11 AM. You could not even get a soda (which we drank most of the time).

Breakfast started at 8AM - Noon (according to the marquee's), but usually opened by 8:15 or 8:30. They only offered buffets, and the food was the same regardless of which restaurant you went to.

Lunch started at 2-5 PM. You could eat at either of the 2 buffet restaurants (again the same food at both), or at the Hot dog and burger stand pool side. The food was usually good (not great) with enough of a variety. Everything was catered and made to the likes of the Mexican nationals that travelled there.

Dinner was from 7 PM - 11 PM. You could eat at either of the buffets which again had the same food, or they closed the buffets and you could eat at their ITALIAN place by the pools which ahd a limited menu, or their FRENCH Restaurant by reservations only.

In our 1 week there, they had the Itilian place open 3 nights, and the menu was the same for all 3 nights. When they have a FIESTA (3 nights), they close all restaurandts and you eat in the front of the hotel where they have a big shindig.

1 night they had a barbecue with Shish-kebobs and steaks, but the line was about 45 minutes long before you got to your plates to get the food.

They advertised an ice cream machine, but we could not find it anywhere. After 3 days, we asked management about it and they stopped ice cream a year ago. On our last day there, we caught a waiter delivering ice cream to rooms. Go figure.

The staff was very polite and friendly. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Our room attendant was a little too helpful a few times by throwing away things we needed and planned on keeping.

Oh! and the ppols. 3 of them but the deepest one was 4 feet deep, and they were not connected which made navigating kind of a problem. The steps into and out of the pools are in poor locations and opposite from where you would expect them to be.

On February 27th we will be arriving for our third stay at the Presidente Intercontinental. The reason we are coming back for a third time is we love it there. The entire staff is excellent. The food is good, the cocktails are good and the location is paradise. Over the years my wife and I and our kids have stayed at many different resorts, all inclusive and otherwise. This is the best value that you can find. Our first trip there we brought our kids along and they talk about that trip to this day. As they are both college students now they will not be joining us for this vacation. Instead we will be traveling with six other friends. In these tough economic times money is tight and my friends asked me to pick a quality spot that would fit everyones budget. Without hesitation I said The Presidente. These people are trusting their vacation destination to me. I don't take that task lightly. I have no doubt about my decision.
I could write pages of all the fun and exciting things we did on and off the resort, but my suggestion to anyone reading this is to go with an open mind and enjoy the Mexican people. This is a beautiful area and people are friendly. Be kind and respectful to the staff and other guests and that attitude will be returned to you in kind.
This is a value based destination, this is not Grand Lido. I have stayed at Grand Lido I like the Presidente better. Expect clean comfortable rooms, good quality food and drink, friendly staff and beautiful surroundings with much to do and you will not be disapointed. If your expectations are a 5 diamond resort with every single amenity you can think of this may not be the place for you. But remember, The Presidente is about one third of the cost.
Heads up to the staff. I will once again be bringing Senor Frog along. So prepare yourself for all his crazy animal sounds and goofy antics. We will do our best to keep him under control.
HaHa. See your in a few weeks.

My wife and I just returned from 10 days in Ixtapa at this resort and we are already planning to return. This review is honestly done as this is our 2nd year in a row to stay at this hotel.

First off, the staff. Simply excellent! We communicated via email with Esthela for a few weeks before arriving and were greeted with a concierge check-in, cold drinks, and a hand selected Ocean front room. She had remembered our names and ensured things were perfect! Jorge the concierge was very helpful and let us know that whatever we needed, just ask. The waiters for food, bartenders, and security staff are all accommodating and eager to ensure things are perfect. Our room was spotless every day and in fact my wife went to the room once while the maid was cleaning and she was in the bathtub on here hands and knees actually scrubbing the tub! We were treated like VIP's and our food and drinks never went empty. Room service was excellent as well.

The resort rooms are a great price and fairly well maintained. I see reviews complaining about trivial things and people will always find something to nitpick. If your looking for a 5 diamond resort, then book one. This is certainly worthy of a 4 star min. Our room was ocean front, ALWAYS clean and fresh, bottled water and drinks delivered daily, and even little designs done on our pillows daily with fresh flowers. We don't have much to complain about for the rooms at all. Not the Biltmore but we didn't pay Biltmore prices either.

The food was good. I do agree with some of the other reviewers in the fact that breakfast and dinner is better. Lunch buffet is good too, just not as good as the others. Food is always fresh, cooked perfectly and with a lot of choices. They will also get you whatever you like, just ask. I wanted papaya juice which was not available but guess what? In about 5 min I had it on the table and they were excited they could do it. The theme nights are superb with the Italian and French dinners being very nice. Drinks are awesome and they will make whatever you like if possible. They have Sushi and Martini night and it is superb quality and the Martini's are to die for.

The staff was unbelievable. Jorge from security actually took us to Ixtapa island on his day off which was also his brothers birthday. I asked him during the week if he could help us book a trip. He did one better! he actually picked us up in the morning at the hotel, got us on the bus to Playa Linda, had his friend taxi us to the island, got our lunch and drinks and then spent the entire day over there with us before taking us back. I paid 50.00 for all that and then tried to tip him and he refused. We had to force him to take the tip!

Overall, this is an excellent resort. Yea, it's not perfect but it's close. Can I find something to complain about? Maybe, but if you look a the entire picture it would be difficult. The price makes it an almost unbelievable value and the weather, beach, staff, food, etc are all excellent. It was our 2nd year there in a row and there will be a 3rd.

If you are realistic in your expectations of a 4 star, then you won't be disappointed. If you want 5 diamond millionaire resort, then maybe. We loved it. Thanks Presidente!

We spent New Year's week at the Presidente. The location is perfect, the rooms were recently remodeled (had a pooside room) with granite counter tops, in room safe, flat screen TVs. The staff was amazing, and the weather in Ixtapa is ALWAYS perfect! The hotel put on the best New Year's Eve party I have ever seen - dinner, dancing, entertainment, hats and favors, fireworks – the whole night was fabulous. The hours they spent preparing and getting everything ready for that party was very impressive. The food is always fresh and plentiful with lots of variety. It was a bit crowded that week - but we still had a wonderful time. Carlos and Marilu are the best servers at the hotel - our thanks to them - they really know how to take care of you and have lots of fun as well. The lifeguard on the beach is also the best - very friendly and did a great job with all the people there. Will never understand the bad reviews for this hotel - how can anything be that bad when you are in Mexico and it is sunny and warm and there is plenty of food, drink, and pampering?? Can't wait to go back! Don't hesitate to book this hotel - it really is a great place.

Our experience at this hotel was very unpleasant.
- at check in we had to wait over two hours for our rooms
- air conditioning did not work in one room
- in another room our tub was not cleaned
- the wait for any of the restaurants was at least 45 min
- our rooms were not cleaned on a daily basis
- hot water completely ran out one day

We talked to managment about our problems and they were not willing to help. I would stay away from this hotel.
