“GREAT for kids... but if you don't have kids, go elsewhere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

The MOST family friendly experience I can imagine. With so many kids around and a staff that truly seemed to LOVE the children, it was the perfect first vacation with our 11-month old. The babysitting service allowed us a relaxing afternoon at the spa. There was plenty to do onsite including the evening shows (put on with help from the kid clubs) which were the highlight for our little one. She was mesmerized!! Great pools, beautiful beach, good food. I would highly recommend this resort for families with kids 12 and under.

Everything and everybody was faultless. We upgraded to a suite which had the benefits of 24 hour food and beverage, guest service persona always available, private beach, breakfast in bed.
We took our toddler and our teenagers - all had great times. Amazed how the food is so good when cooking for so many. Ditto the cleanliness in amazingly good.
But as with all club med holiday's we have taken it is the staff that make the vacation so wonderful.
I just wish we had been warned how strong the sun is.
I have read some of the negative reviews here and either we were very lucky, they fixed the issues or our upgrade but I cannot find one negative thing to share.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor suite with doors leading to a private beach.

We have been to Club Med Ixtapa 10 times with our 3 children, now ages 5-13. Every year when we leave the resort, we all say "That was the best time ever". I actually cry every time when we are leaving for the airport. I know we will go back again, so the tears stop. If you are looking for room service and 5 star amenities this is not the place for you. But, If you have kids, want to try new things (like flying on the trapeze), make friends, love nature and wildlife, like to eat and drink and most importantly HAVE FUN, Club Med Ixtapa is the place for you. I can't think of a better place for a family to have a vacation, unless of course you are a "Four Seasons" type of family. Club Med Ixtapa rocks!

Room Tip: We stay in the family suites so we can have a concierge. It helps with many things such as housekeep...

We just returned from another spectacular week at this resort. We traveled with several other families and everyone had a blast. Much like summer camp with camp counselors, this resort has a ton of different activities with "G.O.'s" that will be there with you as much or as little as you want from morning to evening and later. How else do you describe seeing 100-200 kids and adults late at night dancing and singing and following the lead of the G.O.'s who are up in front doing particular moves to the same songs each night. You are free to veg on the beach and do absolutely nothing, or be active every minute of the day. One moment you might take a small sailboat or kayak out on the ocean, the next be doing Yogalates in the exercise palapa and then head to archery or the trapeze. There have been some recent improvements. First, the food was better this year with more stations manned by chefs who will create a particular dish for you. Second, it seems as though they are gradually replacing worn out decking with tile around Miramar restaurant. Third they finally put a water cooler down next to the beach volleyball court. Fourth, they now supply a limited number of beach umbrellas which they will set up for you if you ask. The key to this is that in the morning around 9 or 10 AM, look for the young men in light blue shirts and ask for the umbrella. Pretty easy to find them as they will be surrounded by other guests requesting an umbrella as well. The only unfortunate thing we encountered is that the beach is not as quiet and private as it has been in years past. Part of this was likely due to the Mexican Spring Break in the week prior to Easter so that a lot of Mexican Nationals head to the beach so that the North and South ends of the beach had large numbers of people. In addition, there is a new hotel that is next to the North end of the resort and may have added to the mix and the hotel to the South created a walkway for their guests to the beach. Also, there were two boats that would take people parasailing directly off this beach and finally, yachts are now being chartered from Zihutanejo that will anchor off the beach so that their own guests can swim or use the beach. Despite all of that, it is still less busy than other beaches I have visited but it is still unfortunate that this hidden gem has been discovered.

Room Tip: If staying in Muneca or Pajaro ask for a room on the second floor to see the ocean. Don't leave...

Once again Dora saved the day with our difficult 3yo boy. She and the rest of the Baby Club, and Petit Club crew--Nayelli, Vania, Karin and Flor-- are simply fantastic. Mini Club crew also awesome--7yo did not want to even eat with us. Kari, Veronika, Hoshi, David, Maureen, and the others that I shamefully don't have their names...they are wonderfully patient, energetic, and all seem to sincerely love their jobs, and children in general. You all are the reason we returned.

And then there's Moises. We miss you! I think Moises is the nicest man in Ixtapa. Seriously. This man works so hard to make sure your room is perfectly clean and everything is working. And then his sunny smile makes your day.

Dining room staff also very nice and accommodating. Food is ok--Mexican station always the best (thanks Ester!). We ate whatever they were making at every meal. Skip the "seafood". The stone claws were spongy and gross. And imo they could do without the "Brazilian" night. Pastry left a lot to be desired...could be humid climate? Not sure.

The club was way crowded. But I think it's because the staff here is so great, they get a lot of repeat visitors (like us). For a vacation with small children, we feel relaxed and free here to get some alone time, while knowing the kids are having a good time, or at least being coaxed into it. I do wish it wasn't so crowded though.

Rooms were ok--very clean, but definitely showing their age already. And skip the spa. Not run by Club Med, towels and linens were threadbare, and just not the spa experience I'd had in the past. Again, staff was great, it was the amenities that were worn and neglected.

So, yes, Ixtapa is great. But it's not the club necessarily, it's the people. The Mexican hospitality rivals anywhere (as most GOs and staff were Mexican). Everyone seems to want to make you happy.

one last note for Chef Remy (and Club Med central)--It is degrading to make grown men wear shirts that say "Beach Boy" on the back. Yes, they are bar waiters at the pool and beach, but many are older men. I was embarrassed for them that their shirts said "Beach Boy". It seemed very disrespectful and a very dated concept.

My husband and I took our 4 sons (ages 5, 10, 14 and 16) to Club Med Ixtapa as part of our Mexican holiday in late February/ Early March. We had never been to an all inclusive before, and were extremely impressed with the excellent food- we were particularly fond of Audel: a wonderful waiter who made sure our big family was always well looked after.

I love dance and fitness, and Stephanie the instructor is one of the best I have ever encountered. She is an amazing choreographer and teacher with boundless energy, enthusiasm and warmth.

Our older boys loved meeting other teens, and Pedro the youth GO made their trip. Our 10 year old wanted to circus train the entire trip: Joe, Salgado and all the GO's were patient, warm and fun!

Big thanks to Christian and everyone at Club Med Ixtapa- we had a very fun, relaxing and beautiful trip:)

According to our kids this trip was "better than Disney World". It was our first time there and hopefully won't be the last. Everything was great...the beach, staff, rooms, food, etc. The kids loved the kids clubs. We had a 6 year old and Kari was wonderful with her. My oldest is 14 and we hardly ever saw him. He was always with his group. We booked our own airfare so arranged transport through the resort. This worked out very well. It was about $36 each way charged to our credit card. We landed at the airport and there was someone there with a Club Med sign and he took us to our cab. Our return was just as smooth...there was a letter in our room telling us to be in the lobby at 11:00, the cab showed up, and that was it. The only negative (and this doesn't really have anything to do with the resort, just us not knowing how things work) was our phone bill. We had a calling card that we used to call home, unfortunately we still ended up with a $400 phone bill from the resort. Next time we'll get a tracfone or something that works in Mexico. Also, my son won a massage and gave it to me. The spa was wonderful! Still a wonderful trip and hope to go back in a couple years.
