“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Overall a good base for gaining access to the the sights of Cornwall, accommodation was very nice

Things that could be improved upon are the wifi, as after paying £10 (plus an extra £5 per device) , we discovered that we had to connect via a lead which did not fit our tablets, got our money refunded but wifi was important to us.
Was told the bar had unlimited wifi only to discover it was limited to 30 minutes; we ended up going to another lower rated park up the road for free unlimited wifi
Surely as a 5 star park this should be a standard

On our second visit to the bar we were asked to use the restaurant bar, where the prices had shot up, hence we didn't go back again
We also had no bread knife, the gym was very small and basic and the tv did not have a menu

Such a shame really as if it wasn't for these silly matters we would of definitely considered coming back

Dear Guest. Thankyou for your review and we are pleased that overall you enjoyed your holiday and the quality of your lodge. we would like to advise others that we do charge for wifi in individual lodges as this is a cost that we prefer to charge as required as we do find that some guests prefer not to have it whilst away on holiday and this prevents it being added onto the cost of all holidays. We do offer free wifi within the main building for anyone wishing to use it. I would also like to comment on our bar prices and can confirm that we have had no prices increases apart from the coke which used to be from a pump and therefore cheaper but now we dont use the pump from our new bar. I hope this helps you and other future guests. Many thanks.

Have just spent a week in a Fistral Lodge overlooking the 'lake'. Before I wrote this I have had a look back through some of the reviews, and it has occurred to me how many people have given poor or terrible reviews which should have rung alarm bells really.
The lodge itself was very well-presented and comfortable and there were no problems with electricity, heating or Wi-fi (which is is a ridiculously expensive EXTRA).
BUT here is my list of problems
The high chair provided was dirty and the plastic cover on the seat was torn
The travel cot was old, stained and did not have a mattress. The lady on the phone told me people bring their own!!
There were no chopping boards.
The Woodland Walk would be a hazard for young children, beware, due to close proximity to water, and lots of mud, general rubbish such as old tyres and road signs. Not attractive at all.
There were no knobs on the controls for the oven and top oven, so they couldn't be used.
The soft play area no longer exists, so watch out if you are expecting that. Still on the website though.
I enquired about a couple of classes, and was told they weren't happening as it was half term! This was after being given a list of classes available on arrival.I could go on....
I did speak to Jason and I can say that efforts were made, so that we were provided with a new travel cot, complete with MATTRESS! Also a different high chair.
Temporary knobs put on oven, lots of apologies etc etc.
If you are reading this Retallack, when I look back 2 or 3 years people were saying similar things then, so what's taking so long? You are a VERY expensive resort, and you do not provide value for money at all!
Next time, it is back to good old Centre Parcs - I actually missed them!

Dear Guest. Firstly thankyou for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed the quality of your Fistral Lodge overlooking the lake. Thankyou also for confirming that we dealt with the issues that didnt meet our usual high standards so that your high chair was replaced and a new travel cot with mattress was provided. ( I would like to take this opportunity to say that we do now provide mattresses with all travelcots as part of our ever increasing baby packs and we are due to add to these packs, cellular blankets , toy ranges and 3 wheeler buggies). We are sorry that the knobs on your oven had to be temporarily replaced due to the previous guests having broken them and we should have noticed this before your arrival.
Our softplay area has been removed as it was too small and did not fit with the design of our new restaurant which opened this month with our new head chef , Masterchef winner 2008, James Nathan. We are very excited about the new larger and more challenging for the under 5's soft play that will be launched in April.
We are sorry that 2 classes in the week that you stayed at Retallack were removed from the schedule and we apologise for this error in our timetabling.
Our Woodland walk does have tyres on it as they are used for the teenagers campfire sessions and should not be looking untidy as they should be set out in a circular fashion ready for the sessions and we will make sure that we check these havent been moved more often and will organise more regular litter picks as this is a wonderful walk for families to enjoy.
We do thank you for your points and we do have staff training that actions these points as our customer enjoyment is of huge importance to us and we hope that the very positive reviews that we also receive ona very regular basis will show this. many thanks again.

We stayed in a 4 bed Padstow property - nanna, mum, dad and baby! Perfect size for all of us and great access to many great parts of Cornwall. Baby gates already set up, cot available and high chair provided - everything you could wish for on a holiday to relax and recharge the batteries. The spa is lovely - try the reflexology - so relaxing! The ONLY downside was the slight odour in the property, but this was checked out and sorted very quickly.

We stayed 4 nights over New Year. The accomodation really was five star standard, we couldn't fault the facilities and decor in the 3 bed lodge at all. It was equipped with everything you could want, it really was home from home. The ensuite bathroom off the main bedroom was pure luxury. We really enjoyed the hot tub, it was great being outside in freezing temperatures just enjoying the scenery and/or night sky. The resort itself was probably more focused on younger children, I only wished we had discovered it when our children were younger. That said my teenage boys loved the flowrider but were disappointed not being allowed to use the pool unaccompanied. We dined in the restaurant on New Years Eve, the food was delicious, real quality but I was slightly disappointed at the number of children running in and out, I wouldn't normally expect this when paying £40 a head.

Room Tip: We had lodge number 2 which was perfectly located for the main facilities in the club house

Dear Guest. Thankyou very much for taking the time to make a review of your New Year break with us and we are delighted that you enjoyed your elegant 5* accomodation in Lodge 2 ( this is a one of a kind new specification lodge with a roll top bath within the master bedroom!.... we hope this particular lodge will suit a romantic holiday or honeymoon. You obviously enjoyed the wonderful views and night sky from your hot tub. On New Years Eve, after the firework display, we offer a kids movie night for the younger children and a flowrider party for teens, enabling adults to enjoy dinner for a sensibly priced £40 - as we are a family resort - from time to time children will come in to the restaurant to see their parents but we are pleased you enjoyed the wonderful meal you had and that a great New Years Eve was enjoyed by all. Our New styled restaurant, The Green Room, has now opened with our wonderfully talented Masterchef winner 2008, James Nathan ! We hope that we can welcome you back soon and that you enjoy another fantastic holiday.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

I had a four night stay here for Christmas with 4 adults and 2 children in a 4 bed Trevone lodge. It was incredibly well equipped for children with stair gates, potties, high chair etc and also had a great amount of pots, pans, glasses etc. probably the best equipped self catering accommodation I have stayed in.

There is a nice restaurant with good food, a swimming pool which is lovely and warm and a flowrider to learn to surf. There is also a nice looking playground but we didn't get to use it because of the weather. There aren't many more facilities on site but nearby is Padstow, Newquay, The Eden Project and lots more so is a great place for a week away with the children.

The lodge was very comfortable, extremely warm and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Dear Guest. Thankyou very much for your review of Retallack Resort and we are delighted that you enjoyed the 5* luxury of your 4 bedroom Trevone lodge over Christmas and that it fulfilled all your needs for travelling with children too. For your next visit please bare in mind that we offer, during school holidays, a full timetable of kids club activities for children and some for parents to join in too! The Flow rider is a big hit with all ages from 5-95 years! We are delighted you enjoyed the indoor swimming pool and perhaps next time the children will have the opportunity to use the playground with swings, climbing frame, pirate ship playslide and climb, see-saw and zip-wire. Again many thanks and we hope you visit again soon.

Just returned from yet another visit to Retallack, its always a pleasure as the houses are lovely and the whole place is so relaxing, you feel like you have had a break even if you are only there for the weekend. The spa was so busy we didn't gat chance to use it, but never mind there's always next time. The real bonus this time was the restaurant other times it has been ok and we have used it as a last resort, but WOW they have a new chef the masterchef 2008 winner James Nathan and boy that man can cook, we went to the restuarant twice and it was just delicious, we often eat at Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth, but we may not be coming to you so often now. If you are staying at Retallack please go and give James the opportunity to WOW you as he did us.

We stayed in one of the large 6 bedroom lodges for a hen weekend in May 2012 (a very civilised hen weekend), and could not believe what amazing value for money it was. The decor of the lodge was stunning, as was the setting - right by a lake. Having the hot tub was a bonus too, especially as were very fortunate enough to have picked a weekend with amazing weather. We also visited the indoor pool, which was nice. The lodge was kitted out with everything we could have needed, included a waterfall shower and jacuzzi bath in the ensuite of the main bedroom. Thoroughly recommend for a weekend away with family or friends. The only bit of feedback we would give is that there should be a few more outdoor chairs (there were only 4 for a lodge which slept up to 12 people) and that there could be a better olace to locate the bins, as they spoilt the view of the front of the lodge.

Dear Guest. Thankyou very much for taking the time to make a review of your break with us. You obviously had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the setting of your 6 all en suite bedroom lodge overlooking the lakes. As you say in your review they are perfect for large families or groups of friends as all bedrooms are to the same 5* quality and all have ensuite bathrooms. The huge open plan kitchen and living space gives a wonderful entertaining space for the whole party to relax and dine in comfort ( with an extra living room for kids or peace!!) . You absolutely should have had more than 4 outdoor chairs ( you should have a large table with seating for 12 people) and we only wish you had called us at the time as for some reason your chairs had obviously been removed and not replaced ( this may have been a maintenance issue but you still should have had your 12 chairs - our apologies indeed for this). We are delighted you enjoyed a wonderful break and hope that we can welcome back again soon.
