“Perfectly equipped break for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I had a four night stay here for Christmas with 4 adults and 2 children in a 4 bed Trevone lodge. It was incredibly well equipped for children with stair gates, potties, high chair etc and also had a great amount of pots, pans, glasses etc. probably the best equipped self catering accommodation I have stayed in.

There is a nice restaurant with good food, a swimming pool which is lovely and warm and a flowrider to learn to surf. There is also a nice looking playground but we didn't get to use it because of the weather. There aren't many more facilities on site but nearby is Padstow, Newquay, The Eden Project and lots more so is a great place for a week away with the children.

The lodge was very comfortable, extremely warm and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Dear Guest. Thankyou very much for your review of Retallack Resort and we are delighted that you enjoyed the 5* luxury of your 4 bedroom Trevone lodge over Christmas and that it fulfilled all your needs for travelling with children too. For your next visit please bare in mind that we offer, during school holidays, a full timetable of kids club activities for children and some for parents to join in too! The Flow rider is a big hit with all ages from 5-95 years! We are delighted you enjoyed the indoor swimming pool and perhaps next time the children will have the opportunity to use the playground with swings, climbing frame, pirate ship playslide and climb, see-saw and zip-wire. Again many thanks and we hope you visit again soon.

Just returned from yet another visit to Retallack, its always a pleasure as the houses are lovely and the whole place is so relaxing, you feel like you have had a break even if you are only there for the weekend. The spa was so busy we didn't gat chance to use it, but never mind there's always next time. The real bonus this time was the restaurant other times it has been ok and we have used it as a last resort, but WOW they have a new chef the masterchef 2008 winner James Nathan and boy that man can cook, we went to the restuarant twice and it was just delicious, we often eat at Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth, but we may not be coming to you so often now. If you are staying at Retallack please go and give James the opportunity to WOW you as he did us.

We stayed in one of the large 6 bedroom lodges for a hen weekend in May 2012 (a very civilised hen weekend), and could not believe what amazing value for money it was. The decor of the lodge was stunning, as was the setting - right by a lake. Having the hot tub was a bonus too, especially as were very fortunate enough to have picked a weekend with amazing weather. We also visited the indoor pool, which was nice. The lodge was kitted out with everything we could have needed, included a waterfall shower and jacuzzi bath in the ensuite of the main bedroom. Thoroughly recommend for a weekend away with family or friends. The only bit of feedback we would give is that there should be a few more outdoor chairs (there were only 4 for a lodge which slept up to 12 people) and that there could be a better olace to locate the bins, as they spoilt the view of the front of the lodge.

Dear Guest. Thankyou very much for taking the time to make a review of your break with us. You obviously had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the setting of your 6 all en suite bedroom lodge overlooking the lakes. As you say in your review they are perfect for large families or groups of friends as all bedrooms are to the same 5* quality and all have ensuite bathrooms. The huge open plan kitchen and living space gives a wonderful entertaining space for the whole party to relax and dine in comfort ( with an extra living room for kids or peace!!) . You absolutely should have had more than 4 outdoor chairs ( you should have a large table with seating for 12 people) and we only wish you had called us at the time as for some reason your chairs had obviously been removed and not replaced ( this may have been a maintenance issue but you still should have had your 12 chairs - our apologies indeed for this). We are delighted you enjoyed a wonderful break and hope that we can welcome back again soon.

Just returned from a lovely short break with our 7 month old baby. The lodge was perfect, superb quality, warm, baby friendly and very comfortable. They provided us with a 'baby pack' which included a travel cot, high chair, baby bath, pottie, steriliser, baby cutlery set and a few other bits and bobs. This was great as it meant we didn't have to bring all the extra stuff down from London with us. Staff were great and really efficient, making us feel very welcome. As you would expect in November we experienced mixed weather but still managed to have some lovely family walks on the beach and around Padstow, both of which are close by, and being out of season didn't have to book restaurants (recommend Jamie's 15 in Watergate Bay for breakfast). We also had the pool to ourselves at times. Overall a great trip and we will definitely be returning.

We have just returned from a week at retallack resort and loved it, there were 11 of us we stayed in The Herons 200. The lodge was nice clean spacious and very comfortable, we really enjoyed the hot tub and the surroundings were lovely, the lodge was very well equipped with everything we could have needed. We made use of the swimming pool and steam room which again were really nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the bar was very nice and served the best latte I have had in a long time. We will be re-booking this resort again, I'm looking forward to it already.

Just arrived back from Retallack and I loved it! It's a lovely self catering resort and more than catered for our needs. There were 8 in our group and we booked a 4 bed Polzeath with a hot tub (semi detached).
We arrived in the evening and it was wet and dark, reception was quick and easy. £250 cautionary deposit needed before key is given out. Not a problem at all. The directions to the glades were a bit tricky but we were on a little hen weekend and it just made us giggle. We did however find it a bit difficult to see the numbers on the houses so I do have to agree with some of the other reviews that mentioned this. Took us a good 5 mins running from door to door ( in the rain) but we eventually got in. We were also given cards for the pool etc but not told that they needed to be returned ( thankfully I kept them all in my purse).
The house was perfect. Remember Retallack is not a hotel, it is posh camping so bring everything you need. They provided toilet paper and mini shower gel and shampoo in each bathroom ( all 4 rooms ensuite). They also provided a small carton of milk and some biscuits and a few tea bags, sugars and coffees! Lovely touch!
The kitchen is state of the art, all mod cons. Don't forget dish cloth and tea towels! Two dishwasher tablets are provided so I would suggest you take a few with you as they charge for more. Also take some bin bags. As I said before, pack as if you are going camping!
The lounge is spacious with three lovely comfy sofas, tv on the wall, DVD player provided. Smallish table with 8 chairs, a big tight though! Bigger table would be better but that is a terrible gripe!!! The house was spotless on arrival, towels in every room and all bed linen provided. Lovely decor and under floor heating was amazing. The house was lovely and warm.
The outside was lovely. Swan on the lake and ducks everywhere. The weather was wet but we still went into the hot tub. It was great. The hot tub was checked every day by staff!
All in all I would say that Retallack is a 5 star self catering resort. If you want hotel service then book a hotel! You will have to put your rubbish into the bins and recycle your bottles etc, just as you would if you rented a chalet in France!
Well done Retallack,a wonderful weekend was had by all.

Second visit, so we knew what to expect from the quality of accommodation, which is really good. Also lots of facilities on site, even though we didn't take advantage (we spent most of our time enjoying Padstow and the beautiful estuary walks. Staff are also very good. So here were our frustrations...

Firstly they don't actually have the right accommodation for us. We are a group of 4 couples so we wanted 4 double bedrooms with en suite for all. Our only option is the Polzeath, the downside being that it was semi detached and has a closed kitchen, whereas we wanted a nice open plan area, as the other designs do.

We arrived in the dark and was amazed by the huge potholes which isn't good enough really. Then it was too dark to see the house number and I had to turn on the torch on my phone to find the keyhole in the door. During which time my shoes were soaked from splashing through dirty puddles. Again this shouldn't happen, it wouldn't take much to sort this out.

We paid extra to have twin beds converted to doubles, but one room wasn't done. There were no instructions to operate anything. This was a real problem because we couldn't get the heating working during the day, so it was really cold. At night it was so cold that my wife had to sleep in a hoody. We also couldn't master the tumble dryer and as a result we had wet towels for the whole 3 days.

We tried to phone reception but the phones do not work, not from 206 anyway. Also there were bath robes in only 1 bedroom - should be all or none you would think. And we ran out of toilet roll, which I think is totally unacceptable for a 5 star.

Sorry I've focused on the negatives but there are several good reviews on here about the quality of resort and the good staff, which I agree with. But these niggles do deserve a mention. By the way I am still waiting for my £20 refund for the beds!

Dear Guest. Thankyou for your review from your second visit to us at retallack resort. I am pleased that our on site Guest Relations Manager has been able to discuss your review with you personally and we do thankyou for your comments. Due to the busy summer we felt it necessary to leave the tarmac of the road to The Glades until the winter and this should be complete by christmas. I have sent a report to advise that lights must be left on for any guests arriving late especially in these winter months. We will also be looking into our lighting and numbering of our lodges in The Glades to give guests an easier first arrival to their property. I am sorry you were unable to contact us and only wish you had dropped in at reception so that we could turn your heating on and show you how to work your tumble dryer for you immediately. Your guide to the property was missing and we have now replaced this, so thankyou for these points and we are pleased we were able to discuss them with you and delighted that you will be returning again.
