“Beautiful stylish place and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

I loved the colours of this hotel, orange and purple and also the local ceramic tiles which were everywhere including in the sinks. The staff were very friendly and as a Spanish speaker I loved the fact that they never answered me in English when I was speaking Spanish! Amazing location, near the centre and with a great bar at the bottom of the road!

My room was tiny, dominated by a bed that could sleep three (don't get any ideas!) and covered by a zebra stripe bedspread. With the purple wall behind it the décor suggested a man cave, 1980's style (bring your own Iron Maiden). But there was something, compelling, cute and cozy about this room and in the evenings it was always a welcome place to retreat to, watch TV in Spanish and kick back and relax. It is a very old building and there are odours coming from the bathroom drain, such as are often inevitable in Mexico. There is a transom window over the door that admits bright light from the courtyard and fortunately the staff (sometimes when reminded) remember to turn the lights off before midnight. Only one staff member refused to do it, the only one who seemed to have an attitude problem. Fortunately my Spanish is good and I was able to persuade him to turn the lights off on pain of saying something on Tripadvisor!
The staff are kind, friendly and helpful and obviously care about their guests wellbeing and comfort. This is a great budget option and I heartily recommend El Hotelito, Puebla.

Room Tip: Room 8 has a transom window that admits bright light at night that will glare in your face. However...

We stayed at El Hotelito about 2 years ago and we really liked it! Nice, Clean, Confy and Cheap! This was our second time at El Hotelito and we were very pleased with everything and happy because of the improvements! New color (loved the purple one), new beds, new flat TV screens (not in everyroom yet) but the same prices!!! We loved it!!

This is a boutique hotel at an affordable price. Each room has its own special features and character. It is cute, quaint and memorable; small and intimate. I stayed there with my university students on a course, and they all fell in love with the Hotelito, and referred to it as "home". We were able to walk everywhere in Puebla, from the historical downtown and main square to the trendy Reforma area for night life. Puebla's best restaurants are within an easy walk, as are most of the museums and historical monuments. The Hotelito is a great choice for accommodation, if you want to get into the streets and explore this gorgeous city.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have windows that face the street, so not good for light sleepers. Rooms on the...

Please note that most of the reviews that give 5 stars to this hotel follow almost the same format and length. I doubt that they are all written by true travelers who have stayed here. The hotel is not bad, but it is far from deserving a 5/5 rating and a Number 1 position on TripAdvisor.

Pros: Location. Cleanliness. Helpfulness. Good wi-fi. Refrigerator and microwave in room.
OKs: Hot water, but a bit difficult to regulate. TV, but no international channels. Beds are fine, but bed covers are old and well used.
Cons: Rooms are cold even though temperatures outside are okay during afternoons. Very poor low-wattage lighting. Most rooms have no windows; those that do have traffic noise throughout the night. Late noise--TV from room next door and disco music from somewhere.

I've stayed in hotels in over 80 countries around the world and travel as a budget traveler. I found this to be an adequate budget travel hotel. However, in US standards, it is closer to Motel 6 than to Days Inn.

Room Tip: If you are like me and want natural light, get a room in front (others have no windows), but bring e...

Things that hit the spot for me:
-Cleanliness
-Staff friendliness
-20 ft. ceilings
-Charm of the converted house with lovely courtyard
-Proximity to cultural activities
-Deliciously exotic coffee shop at lobby (Café Colibri)
-Lovely building
-A firm bed (a rarity in this country)
-Reasonable price

Cons:
For me none, but I can see how some people may be bothered by the loudish folkloric music played by the newsstand across the street by day, and the live bands from the bar in the corner at night, but this can resolved by asking for a room at the back.

There is a modest gym two blocks away, and dozens of good street food stands in the periphery.

Bells tolling can be heard at a distance, the gentle breeze flows nicely through the room when the balcony is open because of its design, and the goodies from Café Colibri downstairs will be brought to your room if you ask.

This is a gem worth of my every visit to Puebla!

My mother and I stayed at this hotel 11/24 - 11/26 because of it's location and also a very affordable room per night.

Pros: Very friendly and accommodating staff. The front desk clerk was very nice at going the extra mile to accommodate my elderly mom. My mom uses a cane to walk around and it's difficult for her to walk up stairs. When the front desk clerk found this out, he gave my mom the only available room on the first floor which was a three-bedroom. We were also charged for the three-bed room as if it were a single standard room. Other hotels would have not done this and would have told us no single rooms were available for my mom on the first floor. So we were very grateful and happy to have received such nice customer service.

The location to El Zocalo (town square) of all the historic sites is great. The Zocalo is about 4 block away, as are many of the museums.

My bedroom was a king-size room with a TV, small fridge, and microwave.

The bathroom was large with a stand-up shower and Spanish tile and sink with complimentary soap, shampoo, and clean fresh towels. I had plenty of hot water to take a bath.

There is a cafe next to the hotel with wonderful coffees with different Mexican flavors. I recommend you stop by and try one if you stay at this hotel.

Cons: My room faced the street, so noise from passing cars could be heard in my room, but it was not that bad since traffic calmed down more into the night.

Overall, I definitely recommend this hotel if you're on a tight budget. You'll save a lot of money that can be used for more sight-seeing, visiting museums, and restaurants.

Room Tip: Try the Mexican coffee served next door. Delicious!
