“Best Location in Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2009

You can't beat the address of this hotel, superb. While not a 5 star hotel, more tan adequate, good food, friendly people, walking distance to everything. Would gladly stay here again, clean and good.

I traveled all day to get to Zacatecas and was greeted by a very warm reception staff. They made me feel welcome and gave me great restaurant recommendations.

The room was very nice. It wasn't super high-end, but the beds were good, the bathroom was very nice and I had free wi-fi. The restaurant had a great mexican/american brunch every morning. It was so good that I came back even when I switched hotels (due to availability).

I was there during an amazing annual Culture Festival. The hotel was right next to the main stage and they invited me to a great rooftop private party for the opening night of the festival. The hotel is also within walking distance to all the great sites that Zacatecas has to offer.

My only problem was that the AC didn't work and it was very warm at night. I really wish it worked so I could stay that the hotel was excellent.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and Zacatecas to everyone. I've been traveling to Mexico for 30 years and this is my favorite city.

Zacatecas is such a neat town and Hotel Emporio fits right into the colonial atmosphere. Because the town was originally a silver mining town, Hotel Emporio brought that idea into the rooms and decorated with heavy silver. The bright colors, outside stone gathering area and room views were beautiful.

What a great hotel. My wife didn't realize she booked the top rated hotel in Zacatecas until after the fact, but we were very glad she did! The hotel is in a great location and overall we absolutely loved it. We had a Junior Suite and it was more than enough room for the both of us. Everything about it we loved. The city was a great town to explore with a lot of character. If you drove to the hotel, take a taxi, bus, or walk...driving is crazy and taxi's are pretty cheap ($25P to the Teleferico). We have already started recommending both the Hotel and Zacatecas to our friends.

  • Liked — its Location...right in the middle of downtown
  • Disliked — no wireless internet in our room

Our balcony could oversee the Cathedral, the main square and the beautiful houses built on the mountain ... gorgeous view. In our room, we can hear the Cathedral bell all through the night but we could still sleep well. There is even a DVD player in the room. We love this hotel as it is in walking distance to the mine, the cable car and all beautiful building in the main square.

The Emporio is perfectly located and provided very comfortable accommodations: all the amenities expected from a first class hotel (though some signs of wear are apparent: lamp shades). My room was on the 4th. floor with a balcony overlooking the Plaza de Armes: spectacular views and yet very quiet. The staff was perfect. Advice: eat and especially drink elsewhere: the prices are high and in the bar, astronomical (and its hours erratic). El Paraiso, just down the street, is an elegant alternative or El Refugio, up the hill, a funky one.

As for Zacatecas: don't go! It is remote, difficult to get to. There are no nearby sights (unless you count Guadalupe). It is very high causing breathing difficulties (you need to walk and climb to see the place). English is not spoken outside the major hotels. So don't go and thereby help preserve it from the depredations of (American) tourism.

Yo regressare! Es una cuidad bellissima!!

I was very happy with my stay at Hotel Emporio.
It is classy, elegant and well appointed with all the rich cultural details which is part of Zacatecas. The room was large with sumptious bedding and a lovely bathroom. I was in a quiet room and never heard the c hurch bells across the street.
The staff are first rate and were very attentive and courteous to all my needs.
The restaurant is fantastic, especially at breakfast .
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone going to Zacatecas, you won't be disappointed.
