“Beautiful hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

The hotel is situated in a historic cantera building in the center of town but the hotel itself is modern and hip. Definitely a boutique hotel with all the modern amenities one expects. I will be staying there again in August when I return to Morelia, well worth it.

I took my family on a vacation to Morelia and we could not have chosen a better hotel. The people especially Alfredo who went out of his way to help us, Tania, Alberto etc. very friendly, ready to help when needed, and the hotel, its location and architecture outstanding. My family enjoyed it so much. I certainly recommend this hotel to anyone

Gorgeous, luxury 11 modern rooms. Suites facing main square. Perfectly combines old cantera building with modern brand new decoration. Cantera stone may block the internet signal. Right at the colonial historical center. A little traffic. Best for walking. At downtown parking is not friendly.

This hotel is super unique and worth the price.
As others have said, it was converted from a bank but I also learned while there that it was also a hospital at one point.
We were brought up to a room with one bed when we had reserved 2. It was immediately corrected.
The beds were super comfortable. High ceilings and great amenities. Nice sitting areas outside your rooms. Yummy water infused with Apple slices and cinnamon sticks upon arrival. Complimentary coffee and tea in the morning. Location could not be better. Fresh juices just outside the door. Great coffee and breakfast places near by. We ate at the restaurant for dinner. It is Italian food and just ok. Service was good though. We didn't try breakfast.
If I were to criticize, it would be the water pressure. My daughter tried to take a bath. It probably would have taken an hour to half way fill that tub and the water wasn't that hot. The tub is huge though. The pressure on the shower head was the same but definitely not a deal breaker.
We would stay again for sure.
AC worked great

Room Tip: All the rooms are different. They all seemed nice.

I stayed at this great establishment for one night last week. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the hotel as I hadn't done any research on the property prior to my arrival. Upon learning about the history of it (it used to be an old bank building apparently) I was thrilled! The hotel is quite small, but has plenty of character. It is located in a great area (restaurants and the cathedral are all just steps away).

There was a slightly unpleasant odor in the bathroom (smelled a bit of old pipes), but other than than I have no complaints.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the rooms closest to the hotel lobby as noise seems to carry from downstairs.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

I visited Morelia about six year ago and stayed at The Villa Montana which was amazing. But it's a little far outside the centro so this time I stayed at Trip Adisor's #2 pick which was the Cantera Diez. I'm glad I did! It's right across the street from the cathedral and super convenient to shopping, restaurants and street vendors in the centro.

The hotel is amazing. There are only 13 suites/rooms in the entire hotel. But each room or suite has it's own character and all are different (which is one of the things I liked about it). I opted for suite 103. It's huge and beautiful. While on the inner side of the hotel and a bit dark, I particularly enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. What's great is the window/doors open up into the inner lobby. The bathroom has a huge glass ceiling so there is a lot of light that comes in there.

The staff was pretty decent. The sales/reservations contact Tania was amazing! I had contacted her before my stay to arrange a few things prior to my arrival and she was very attentive. I met her in person and she was super professional and sweet. But the HUGE standout staff member for me was Alfredo! He was a bellman and sort of an all around "do everything" guy in the hotel. He worked from late afternoon to late evening. He helped me most by bring ice, some meals, arranging this and that, etc. He spoke really good English and he went out of his way on multiple occasions to help me. I was really thankful for him and because of his great service (along with Tania) I'm likely to return to the hotel.

But let's discuss the big downer. A good majority of the staff do NOT speak English. I'm pretty understanding and as an avid traveler, I always remember that I'm a guest in whatever country I might be visiting. However, my personal rule of thumb when reviewing hotels is that the majority of hotel staff (no matter where you are) should speak the native language of that country as well as English. Even in some of the crazy European locations I've been if you don't speak the language of the country, then English is spoken. I had TWO occasions at the Cantera Diez that really ticked me off because the staff didn't speak English. The first was one morning when I wanted to order breakfast to my room but no one could help me because they didn't understand me. It really bugged me. And then again one late evening I phoned the front desk to ask if the Oxxo store around the corner was a 24 hour store (Oxxo's are like 7-11's). Again, the guy couldn't speak English. I reported it to management the next day and they assured me that they would look into it. What's funny is that I was told the majority of guests in the hotel while I was there were American.

Overall though I love the hotel and ended up sleeping a lot. I walked around Morelia each day but found that I was in the beautiful whirlpool tub and shower in my bathroom quite often because it was so relaxing (you can see both in my photos). The hotel is spotless and SUPER clean. I didn't see dust or trash in the entire place. My room was cleaned everyday and there were always ample supplies. The housekeeping staff was superb!!

I'm only giving 4 stars due to what I think is an important issue regarding the non-English speaking staff. Mostly from a safety point of view. If something had happened where one would need attention, no one would understand what was needed.

If you have any specific questions, please let me know but I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Opt for one of the bigger suites...I recommend #103!!

Great location, staff service is amazing and they always go extra extra miles. I used their taxi service and my chauffeur was really good, knowledgeable and easy to talk. I did a city tour and he recommend San Miguelito restaurant; best option in Morelia

Room Tip: The ones facing Catedral are amazing if you enjoy colonial buildings view.
