“The decor is unusually elaborate. Do not miss this one!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014 via mobile

It is safe to say you will be amazed by this church. It is common to marvel at the elaborate woodworking around altars. The stained glass is always beautiful. The paintings and murals deserve awe. Churches of a certain vintage in Mexico are world-class for certain. This place is in a league apart from the rest. The interior will put a wide grin on your face in an instant, for it so alive. One does get the sense it is breathing and pulsing. Yes, the plaster work is repetitive, but it is still so rich and tasty. The colors are brilliant. See this church upon visiting Morelia. It is unique.

“Very unique interior”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

From the outside this church looks like just another substantial church. Go inside and you will probably be amazed at the interior's appearance with colors and decor not seen elsewhere. Its striking colors are really different and it is known for its unique look.
To get there from the center of town walk all the way east along Madero (the main drag through town). Eventually you will reach two fountains and one end of the aqueduct. Then walk along the aqueduct or even better walk along the wide tree covered walk way that parallels the aqueduct until you come to a very large plaza. At the far end there is a huge statue of Morelos on horseback but at the end that you will come to there is a church. Go inside and check it out. Sit back and just look at the interior for a few minutes and soak up one of the most unusual churches you will ever see. The decor is hard to describe. It's one of those things you need to see for yourself. And if you want go inside the building to it's right that is connected to the church. You are entering the former monastary/convent that is now the Law School of the university.

“Amazing interior”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

We toured the area of Morelia near the Aqueduct and included a stop at Guadeloupe cathedral. The ornamentation, decoration and painting in the interior were stunning. Some might find it gaudy but we were amazed at the artistry.
