“Culture & Comfort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

The beautiful and friendly city of Morelia is on display in the colonial downtown and this hotel offers it up in fine fasion. The location is perfect. I had a room with a beautiful view of the Cathedral and it is a true splendor when lit up at night. My traveling colleague chose a quieter location which he found just as appealing. There were plenty of fine restaurants and cafes very clotse proximity highlighting the tastes of Michoachan. The wi-fi worked wonderful in the room and there was a nice desk area for the bit of work you may need to do. The bathroom facilities were quite nice and all was maintained well. A nice breakfast buffet is available for a reasonable cost and I heard the evening dining was done well but I chose from the variety of restaurants in the immediate area. Parking valet was sharp and efficient as was all the staff - exhibiting the great spirit and friendliness of the local residents.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Cathedral view but be prepared for a bit of evening noise from nighttime revel...

We have just enjoyed a 4 night stay at this hotel. It is almost opposite the cathedral in the historic downtown. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The rooftop terrace restaurant is currently under renovation but the views of the city and surrounding hillsides are spectacular. The room we stayed in didn't have air conditioning but we don't view this as important. The old colonial stone keeps the whole building cool. We really liked it here and have booked another hotel in the Mision Chain as a result of such a positive experience here.

This hotel is right on the plaza and diagonally across from the Cathedral. The triple volume reception area is gorgeous, with real Mexican touches and spicy colours, but sadly this did not extend to the rooms, which were very bland and corporate looking, even though they were clean and neat. Our bathroom had a lovely big shower. Wi-Fi in our room was non-existent, we had to go down to reception to connect. Staff were great and the breakfasts were fine. We arrived on a Saturday which also happened to be the 11th day of Christmas, so we were treated to masses of colourful balloons, crowds of people and the weekly fireworks display and lighting of the cathedral.

Room Tip: Try get a room facing the square and do stay on a Saturday.

Thanks for your feedback The hotel building is a beautiful eighteenth century building which has been remodeled to adapt the conditions for an enjoyable stay, always ensuring the preservation and maintenance of cultural heritage building, very sorry that the internet signal does not fulfill its expectations due to the building's character sometimes difficult transmicion Wi Fi, for all staff working in the Hotel is a pleasure to know that the service we offer you like, hope to see you again.

We paid extra to have a room with a view of the Cathedral and it was well worth it. Lovely to watch Mexican equivalent of passagietta. Rooms well equipped and design of building with courtyard beautiful. We had breakfast at next door cafe as siervice very dilatory.

Beautiful hotel right next to the Cathedral. It seems to be very modernly equipped even though it feels like you are in 18th century monastery.
The rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious.
The Hotel has a great roof terrace that overlooks the whole valley, I am planning to explore it for my yoga practice.
The staff is very friendly and nice.
There is a nice restaurant that looks onto the square but it seems a bit overpriced.
An great experience overall.

Room Tip: shoot for the 3rd floor- great views. the rooms on the side can be a bit noisy because of traffic

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

We stayed at the end of September for four nights as part of a trade show. The room, although small, was comfortable. We were on the top floor. Advantage there is the proximity to the rooftop deck overlooking the cathedral and a WONDERFUL place to watch the Saturday night Fireworks. When it started to rain, there was a little pavilion we were all under - plenty of room and we stayed dry. I think the disadvantage to the top floor is that the rooms for the most part are smaller. Our first room had a brick wall behind the window curtain, so we asked to change rooms. The room we moved to, two doors down, had a window, but it looked into a courtyard surrounded by other rooms. Looking up for the sky, we saw a corrugated plastic skylight, so we has no real view of the outside.

Cons: Items missing from the room that I have come to expect in a luxury hotel: clock, window to the outside, hair dryer (more on that later*), pen, amenities like body cream. Staff not as friendly as they could be.

Pros: Location - right across from the cathedral, stores and historic area. Beautiful, too. Room and bed are comfortable, walking distance to everywhere in the historic district.

*Hairdryer: I asked if they had a hairdryer I could use. First, I was told I could "call the desk and they would let me know when it would be available." Well, on a busy schedule of meetings and functions I could not set my schedule around the hair dryer. One afternoon I decided to go to the front desk and ask if it was available. They said they could give it to me, but only if I gave them a 200 Peso deposit which would be returned to me when I returned the dryer! I had to go back to the room, get the money, and come back down.

Room Tip: Inner rooms may not have windows

We stayed here just a couple weeks ago in Mid July and we were both very happy with the hotel.
We stayed on the top floor [which is probably best] which gets you access to the veranda that overlooks out over the Central Plaza.
It was Quiet & Safe. We only heard the Cathedral bells once we awoke. Speaking of Cathedrals! There are probably 6+ within a 10 min. walk.
On Sundays the streets around the Plaza are closed till 1p.pm. and you can rent bicycles...
Don’t bother going to Janitzio it just a waste of time. A little island that you arrive at with a boat and take a couple pic's and that’s it.
