“I wanted to see my City from a different perspective”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

well i should start saying that my family lives in Morelia, my mom lives few blocks away from downtown and i still have a room there but being away from Morelia and not visiting for more than 2 years make me think I should check out my own city as a traveler so i started by choosing the Hotel Casino... I been here for coffe and drinks in multiple occasions and staying 3 nights here was a great idea, our room was great but right on the corner of the third floor which wasn't so good since we have an infant on stroller and the elevator doesn't go to the third floor... other than that we had everything we need in our room and a sign that says: "If you forgot something ask at the reception we will try to provide it to you" on the last day I encourage my sister and family to spend the night here and we all have a good rest and great time...

Room Tip: single rooms are very small, third floor double rooms are great

We stayed here because the location was right on the square and the price was so reasonable. Our room did not face the square and was very quiet at night. Although there was no air conditioning, there was a stand up heater that you could use as a fan only and it kept the room reasonably cool. The bed was firm but not so hard that you could not sleep. We booked a walking tour from the front desk and even though they assured us it was an English speaking guide, the guide was very difficult to understand. That night while eating in the restaurant on the hotel's patio, we were approached by a young man who spoke exceptional English, that did tours. We wished we had spoken to him sooner. Take your time to find a tour guide so you get the most out of Morelia.

Room Tip: choose one off the square

Our building was constructed on XVIII Century and unfortunately doesn’t count with central air conditioning; however we are trying to provide you with some other accommodations to make your stay pleasant. We appreciate all your comments.

I spent three nights at the Hotel Casino Morelia, and enjoyed myself very much. I had the dumb luck to drive into town on Saturday, which is always a special night in centro Morelia. This is when the city turns the street in front of the hotel into a pedestrian-only walkway, and features a special illumination and fireworks display at the cathedral. The Saturday night that I was there, at least 1,000 people were watching the show -- and the hotel is almost across the street from all the action! It's also within walking distance of most of the things that you'll want to see in this beautiful old colonial city. Those that are not within walking distance, are a short cab ride away.

The hotel itself has average rooms, exceptional service, and is reasonably priced compared to others on the central plaza. I had two meals at the huge hotel restaurant, and was very satisfied with the quality of the food, service and ambiance (indoor/outdoor restaurant similar to the sidewalk cafes in Europe).

I hired a private tour guide to show me the sites. Miguel Rubio Martinez, 53 years old, has been a licensed tour guide in Morelia for more than twenty years. (The hotel recommended him and made arrangements.) He is a native of Morelia, knows the history very well, and is a wonderful story teller. He speaks Spanish, English, Italian and French. If you do nothing else while you are in Morelia, have Miguel take you to the Templo de San Diego y Sanctuario de Guadalupe and listen to his delightful story of how and why this magical place was produced by the local indigenous people.

One important point about the hotel. On Saturday nights the music is loud and runs late. If that is a problem for you, ask for a room in the back. I was there Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, and other than Saturday night, it wasn't noisy.

If you drive in the staff will park your car for you in a secure garage, several blocks from the hotel. This service is free, but one should, of course, tip the staff.

I strongly recommend this hotel.

By the way, I didn't see the pool or spa, so I graded them average.

Room Tip: If you are noise sensitive, ask for a room in the back.

There are ups and downs when you choose a central hotel in a historical city that the main business is the tourism, as you mentioned. During the weekends there are so many visitors around downtown and we know is a little bit noise; however it is also part of the attractions in Morelia. We appreciated your business.

This hotel has some excellent points and some of the worst. Its location is right on the main square in historic Morelia. The staff is very friendly and try to give you any help you need. The restaurant is one of the best I have encountered...Not only with selection but also with presentation. The negative of this property......The property is very old but has some upgrading. The rooms consist of 2 double beds or a very small queen. The selection of double bed rooms is limited. The major deficiency is finding a room that you can vent to the outside Most rooms have little or no venting except the rooms facing the street. No windows are sealed and no a/c is evident. The front rooms facing the street vent because you have a small deck and doors open to it. Seems OK right.....The noise can be beyond tolerance. Sirens up and down the street day and night.....all night. Cars and other vehicles with little or no noise suppression. The real killer was finally getting to sleep, only to be woken up 12:45am to an OOOMPA band..Drums tuba, trumpet.etc........BELIEVE IT.........I still can't.............. What a nightmare!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't really know what to say. Would I stay there again....No!!!! but would definitely eat there...

We appreciated your comments. In reference to the negative aspects to the hotel there are some issues that are out of our hands. The building was constructed around 3 centuries ago and they are some limitations to renovate it due to that is part of the historical downtown of Morelia.

It is 12:15 AM and there is a band with drums outside our window. Our first night here we stayed in a room at the back where it was quiet but so hot there was no way you could sleep. No ventilation whatsoever. We changed rooms the next day to one with a balcony in the front so that we could open a door and get some air. Big mistake! The noise went on all night long. The hotel itself was ok if you like hot or noisy rooms. The staff was wonderful and the food exceptional but I would not return to this hotel. This is my third night here and I haven't had any sleep at all. Can't wait to leave. There are constant sirens going all day and night. And if you choose to eat outside you will be constantly harassed by bad entertainment looking for money and beggars as well. To have a nice quiet dinner you would have to eat inside at all times. I would not return to Morelia.

We are sorry to hear that. Unfortunately the things you mentioned are out of our control. Our hotel is located in the city’s downtown and Morelia is a very busy City. We appreciate your comments regarding our staff. Best regards.

Although totally adequate, this hotel is very old! The lobby and restaurant look nice and serve very good food, the rooms upstairs have not been updated in a looong time so it's a bit of a bait and switch. The bed was small, the carpet had a few stains, but it was otherwise clean and comfortable. It's not really good for eating, breakfast, and then getting out for whatever business you have. Excellent location in downtown Morelia.

Location is superb - right on the Cathedral square. The restaurant is lovely, as is the cafe catedral next door (a cheaper option for a meal). The lobby is cute and the service isn't too bad (they speak OK English if you need it).

Our room was lovely and spacious but a few drawbacks. Little natural light (window into light shaft only). Bathroom had a low door and steps up to it which were difficult at night. The hotel is built around a courtyard lobby which means a lot of noise in your room at night from the restaurant and the neighbouring places which have live music.

We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a lovely meal with regional specialties. The breakfast was nice too although they would only give us 2 free breakfasts included with our room despite the fact that we booked for 3 people and were told breakfast was included. That left a bit of a sour taste.

Generally though we would stay here again and really enjoyed it. For the price it's a great option.

Room Tip: Away from the street and from the noise funnel courtyard towards the back of the hotel.
