“Noisy but quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Location is superb - right on the Cathedral square. The restaurant is lovely, as is the cafe catedral next door (a cheaper option for a meal). The lobby is cute and the service isn't too bad (they speak OK English if you need it).

Our room was lovely and spacious but a few drawbacks. Little natural light (window into light shaft only). Bathroom had a low door and steps up to it which were difficult at night. The hotel is built around a courtyard lobby which means a lot of noise in your room at night from the restaurant and the neighbouring places which have live music.

We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a lovely meal with regional specialties. The breakfast was nice too although they would only give us 2 free breakfasts included with our room despite the fact that we booked for 3 people and were told breakfast was included. That left a bit of a sour taste.

Generally though we would stay here again and really enjoyed it. For the price it's a great option.

Room Tip: Away from the street and from the noise funnel courtyard towards the back of the hotel.

This hotel was an excellent choice. The room was spotless clean with a beautiful view of the cathedral. Location is perfect, close to main sights, restaurants, banks, etc.
If you get a room facing the street you might find it difficult to sleep with the music of a bar close by. It stops around midnight though, so for us this was not a problem.

Balcony rooms have a spectacular view, but we can’t control the noise of neighboring places.
The interior rooms are quiet and they are so nice too.

If location is what you are looking for, this is the place. It is the middle of everything. The free valet parking makes this hotel one of the best deals in town. Park your car and leave it. You will not need it again.
Rooms are immaculate and have a heater. At 7000 feet in the mountains, very seldom will an air-conditioner be needed.

I've stayed at the Hotel Casino in Morelia several times over the last 3 years periodically for both business and pleasure. The restaurant is excellent and tourist friendly cuisine won't give you the revenge of montazuma like some local food will if you're not careful. If you do happen to get sick they have a local Doctor who makes "house calls" and can come see you at the hotel. The staff has always been tentative, professional and helpful. The location is almost directly across the street from the historic catedral in the safest part of town in the downtown square. My favorite restaurant was juaninos, just down the street and with an ideal location to view the frequent catedral lighting ceremonies. There's a public market right around the corner for all of your souevenier shopping and don't be afraid to haggle for a better price.

Room Tip: The rooms with balcony views are noisy from the street traffic and crowds and it's not large eno...

We had a choice of a larger room with no view or a smaller room with a balcony looking over the zocalo. We chose the smaller room---no question. At night, the cathedral was lit and the zocalo was full of people relaxing, buying, selling and just enjoying life. The hotel also provides parking, wi-fi, self-service (and free) laundry and a great restaurant where one can sit and enjoy people-watching. The staff was very friendly, helpful and honest. (I left part of my change and they made a point to give it to me.) Special thanks to Jose, Alejandro, Hector and Jaime.

Room Tip: Go for the smaller rooms with views. One doesn't spend that much time in the room and the views...

The location is great. The restaurant is fine. The staff is helpful. But...
1. We could only reserve 1 night on the internet. The second was by the phone. The lady assured us that we wouldn't have to change rooms. And we didn't, but they put us on a 1 bed room instead of the 2 beds I reserved. By the way, the picture of the room on the internet is deceitful.

Now the big letdown: The room was unbelievable hot. I mean, we could barely sleep. No AC, poor ventilation, a noisy and worthless fan. Only way to lower the heat was to open the window that looks to a inner light yard / kitchen. The problem is that the kitchen staff arrives early and noisely. We had to call the front desk for them to lower their volume.

Some of the worst -sleepwise- 2 nights I've spent. A shame, again, because of the great location.

Room Tip: Beware of 208
