“An elegant bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the beautifully decorated boutique hotel with outstanding service, a nice cafe with good coffee/food and WIFI that worked. (stronger outside the room). The bed and linens were exceptional. Loved the exquisite chrystal chandelier...on a dimmer switch! Ideally located to walk the entire historic center.
As for directions, get the cross street, signage is there but could be more obvious.

Room Tip: Staff is very helpful in assisting with room choices . The quietest rooms are 2 story with the bathr...

This is a very unusal boutique hotel-starting with the fact that there is virtually no signage to announce the hotel. This mad it really hard to find on Grood Friday after dark when all the street lights were turned out and the road was closed to traffic for this special religious celebration.
Once we discovered the hotel's location, the staff were very helpful and, after a longer than hoped for wait due to the crowdedness of the entire area and the hotel lobby, we were led across the courtyard and up the broad stone stairway, supported by massive columns, to our Junior Suite. Along the way, I was struck by the modern unique chandalier overhead and the warm red wall color that set off the light colored stone arches and the well-warn wood and glass doors to the rooms. What a surprise when the door was opened to our suite! A very modern loft with 20 foot ceilings and a large glass door opening to a small balcony on the back side of the hotel. While the room was small, it was quite lovely in it's own way and they save space by using a small but serivceable spiral staircase to access the loft space that held a large comfortable bed and a second flat screen TV mounted on the wall. That was it upstairs- the bed and two small night stands an ulta-modern white accent light on each (great looking, but not producing enough light for reading). The bathroom was small, but the shower produced plenty of hot water, and the stuyle of the room was, like the rest of the room, quite interesting and arresting.
Like others have mentioned, the wifi never quite worked and the hotel-provided hard-wired laptop in the hallway was not much better. On the otherhand, the coffee was good and our breakfasts were hearty.
The best thing about the hotel was its location- 1/2 block from the Cathedral and easy walking distance from most sights in the central old part of the city. This is important as driving is a major hassle and I would strongly suggest leaving your car in the provided valet parking and setting off on foot.
I can't say the hotel was fabulous, but considering all of the above, I felt it was a good choice and was glad we stayed there.

Room Tip: I think they are all unique, but I would tend to recommend one on the back side of the hotel as the...

We stayed here for three nights. The WIFI never worked. We requested a fix and it never happened. We moved out early as we had to conduct business. Young man at front desk is sullen and generally unhelpful in Spanish nor English. We had our meals at Hotel Casino--great staff and WIFI. Next time in Morelia it will be our choice hotel.

he best coffee in morelia and arguably the best and freshest mexican food as well.

the restaurant is located in the courtyard with stone pillars with marvelous sense of history. not easy to find.. you have to go about a half block from the place las armas down toward the tarrasco fountain on the right side. there is a sign that says cafeteria. it is not a cafeteria. the food is mexican fare but cooked excellently and always fresh and clean with the kitchen visible behind a glass screen. service is unobtrusive and downright elegant with white shirt waiters with black aprons. it is to me the best place to have a coffee, read a paper and just take in the food. the coffee is made in an espresso machine and an americano is from fresh beans and not a nescafe in all the other places. the milk is warmed and hot.

highly recommended and the prices are surprisingly low for the quality.

Room Tip: i did not stay at the hotel. the restaurant however is worth a detour.

When travel in Mexico, I always try to find some of those beautiful, elegant, boutique-type small hotel housed in a traditional building. They could be called Casa, Villa, Mansion or whatever. This mansion hotel is one of them, and it is very good in terms of price, location, facility and service.

-Located very close to the central plaza. No problem to walk back even at midnight. Coming from bus terminal, taxi is around 35-40 pesos.

-I got a loft unit on the 2nd floor. Downstairs is a sitting area, and upstairs a big bed, with spiral staircase. A pleasant surprise. Bathroom is spotless and elegantly remodeled. The bed is comfortable, with duvet comforter and nice linen. Just don't know why they put 9 pillows on it. The room is facing the main street, but seems quite sound proof. I had no problem with the noise.

-Not all staff can speak English. The manager on duty did, and he's very helpful and friendly. You can also book the butterfly excursion through the hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel if you are going to Morelia.

Room Tip: The loft on the 2nd floor is very nice.

we made online reservations for this hotel and were not disappointed - price, location and the hotel did not let us down! Beautiful old stone mansion converted into a stylish hotel. All modern amenities, nice bathrooms.

Great location in downtown Morelia, at walking distance from almost everything.

The hotel is nicely decorated although in some aspects not so functional, more for couples than for business. It was also quite hot when we slept there, and the location of the air conditioning machine was not the best (almost pointing at the bed), so it took us a while to set it up properly so we could sleep fine.

Otherwise the bed was super big and very comfortable, and we didn't have any problems with street noise during the night. There was some loud music coming from some nearby place during the day, though, but it didn't affect our sleep at all.

The staff was also polite and everything went fine with them.

Summarizing: great location, nicely decorated (it looks quite luxurious), decent price and -minor nuisances aside- good overall experience. There are probably better places in town but I also wouldn't mind repeating this one.
