“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Very relaxing stay . Great staff with amazing food with so much choice .
Bedrooms need a little updating but that is a minor factor !
Hotel is kept spotlessly clean throughout .
Will certainly return .

Have recently stayed at this hotel. Felt a little like a pensioners hotel, dreary carpets and tired decor. Food was edible but have had much better. Stunning sea facing views, Friendly and polite staff, Room was nice and spacious, Breakfast was good, using some local produce.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms have beautiful view

I have taken advantage of the special winter deals for a few years running now to celebrate my Mother's birthday with family ageing from 24 to 89 and it suited us all! It is excellent value. The staff are all very friendly and the views are stunning. The food is good and there is a good wine list. The rooms are dated, but the price reflects this and there is a cosy lounge and other nice little rooms to sit in so you're not in your room for long. It is nice to stay in a charmingly family run hotel and I would recommend it.

Our annual visit to the Cottage Hotel was again very pleasant and they dealt with our big group effortlessly. Very attentive and polite staff. Good food. Beautiful location. Small but comfortable room which is a little dated but fitting with the rest of the hotel. Cozy cottage hotel feel. See you next year!

We stayed during a very cold spell and found the bedroom warm enough with a conventional radiator and a portable oil filled electric radiator to switch on if we wished.
Our room (214) was excellent in all respects and appeared to have been recently totally refurbished and the bathroom was like brand new.
The decor and furnishings in the public areas are more homely than you will find in corporate hotels and this is no bad thing.
The included 5 course dinner was more than I could manage and the quality, choice, presentation and service were very good.
Breakfast was ample with a good selection of cooked items as well as cereals and fresh fruit etc.
The staff were pleasant and helpful.
The views from the front facing bedrooms and public rooms are probably the best in England.
We hope to return.

Room Tip: Front facing essential to benefit from the views.

We stayed the last week of October and although the weather wasn't very good it didn't dampen our experience of The Cottage Hotel in Hope Cove.

I was nervous at first wondering if the premises would suit everyone in our group as we consisted of 3 generations(daughter 6 yrs, me 40 yrs and nanny 60+ yrs). Answer - YES it did suit us!

We had a family room on the first floor overlooking the bay, with a small balcony. The room wasn't massive but ample enough to accommodate us three and our luggage. The bedroom, bathroom, bedlinen and towels were all spotlessly clean. The honesty of the chambermaids was greatly appreciated when I left a book in the bedroom, upon departure, and they were kind enough to post it back to me. Thank you.

The food was exceptional every evening and breakfast and the staff were especially understanding and obliging to my daughter when they specifically fetched her apple juice every breakfast and made her pasta dishes for dinner (which weren't on the menu), to accommodate her fussy eating.

All the meals were beautifully presented, wholesome and served with a friendly smile and polite conversation. No way will you stay at this hotel and go to bed hungry!

The premises seemed to us to be extremely sociable, without being intrusive.

Location wise, the hotel is about 200m up the hill from the Bay. Parking is available directly outside the hotel to patrons and a porter will help you with your luggage. Please note the footpath from the hotel leading down to the bottom of the village is quite steep.

Strolls on the beach; crabbing in the rock pools; friendly locals; beautiful walks; fine food and drink; great in every way - what more do you want!

We will definitely return to The Cottage Hotel.

If you're under 60, this hotel is really not aimed at you. It's a traditional style small British hotel catering for a certain type of customer who quite simply adore it. It's not my cup of tea, so about the actual hotel I'm going to struggle to say many positive things. The decor is tired, the dining room dreadfully dated and the menu uninspiring (stuck back in the 80's with the last re-furb) However, the staff are obliging and with their regulars they're clearly well loved, and the location - well that must surely be why people return? The price is pretty reasonable too.
