“Good pub stay & dogs freindly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We spayed just 1 night in 2 rooms with 2 dogs - we picked it because it's dog friendly. The pub accommodation is a lot better than I expected, nice rooms, with good décor and comfy beds and nice modern en suites. You can take you dogs down to dinner / lunch if you eat in the bar (but not fro the restaurant). Great views of the sea from most rooms. You are very close to the local town of Kingsbridge. Parking is limited so ask at the bar where to park to avoid a the pay & display car park. Both the restaurant & bar can get very busy in the evening so pick you time to dine. Food is excellent, but I didn't like the ordering at bar (you'll have to push your way through to get served). Breakfast is great and served over the road in the cafe in the morning. As the room are over the pub it's quiet a few stairs down to get outside so I'm glad the dos did not need the loo in the night! But all in all a very good stay.

This has been my second stay at The Hope and Anchor and it was just as good as the first time. A group of us all made it our base when we came down for a wedding weekend in nearby South Milton. We were treated brilliantly and not made to feel like we were 'the big group getting in the way'.
I cannot speak highly enouggh of this place.
Friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble - including organising gluten free meals for me when requested.
The rooms were clean, fresh and tidy with outstanding views.
We will be back again - and probably as a big group too!

Thank-you!

My friend and I stayed at the Hope and Anchor whilst walking the coastal footpath. The accommodation was quite comfortable with a great view. The busy bar offered a good selection of local ales with an excellent standard and 'specials' menu, all served by friendly staff. An upstairs restaurant area is also available if the bar gets too crowded. Breakfast is served in an annex where you can stuff yourself on a generous 'full English' or be more refined and enjoy smoked haddock and poached eggs. Other choices are also available.

We stayed at the Hope & Anchor for only one night at the beginning of May in a twin room. It is a lovely old pub in the centre of Hope Cove. The room was fine, but the highlight was the view from the window across the bay which was superb. It was great to get up in the morning and look out, made better by the fact that the sun was shining! We ate in the pub - excellent sea food and good real ale. Would have liked to stay longer and plan to return.

Myself and my partner absolutely loved staying at the Hope and Anchor.
The accommodation was great with sea views and en-suite bathroom. staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location in Hope cove is beautiful and with Salcombe minutes down the road there's plenty in the area to keep you occupied.
If you're looking for a quiet break away, with amazing scenery and local beaches, I highly recommend a stay here.

I have been visiting this hotel from time to time since the mid 1970s - and each time something has improved. My recent stay (April 2013) found the usual high standard in the bedroom (tho the shiower fitting in the bathroom needed a little attention). The always attentive staff were even more attentive and friendly than on previous occasions. Even the request for an early breakfast was met with a friendly response! The most marked improvement however was in the quality and standard of the food. The breakfasts were superb as you might expect but the evening meals surpassed even the best "pub" food I have tasted. Starters, main courses and puddings over a five night stay were without exception excellent. Many thanks to all concerned - and if you are reading this get yourself to this charming beachside village inn as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed.
